Rabbi Knofler contributed regularly to this blog with his Dvar Torahs.
R' Shmuel z"l was a true Talmud Chachem and his love of Eretz Yisroel was so deep that every single Dvar Torah that he uttered reflected his yearning for all Jews to return to the land that HKB"H gave us and for the Geulah Shleimah.
R' Shmuel was buried minutes ago in Bet Shemesh Israel...
May he be a Meilitz Yoisher for his entire family and for Klall Yisroel that he loved so much.
He will be missed .....

My name is Chaim Shmuel Friedman
Shmuel ז״ל was a mentor and good friend to me for over 50 years.
When I was a camper in Camp Adas Yereim he was an older bochur part of the staff. He immediately became my "hero" as he was an amazingly talented artist and I was a young wannabe artist!
Over the years we shared many many hours together and besides him being patient and always kind to me - willing to teach me art and graphics - but it was always peppered with Torah & wisdom & humor - of which he had an abundance of.
The last thing he shared - just a few weeks ago - was a beautiful d'var torah that he wrote on this blog.

Just three months ago I had the good fortune to meet Mr. Knopfler and interview him about a half an hour private audience that he merited to have with the Rebbe. This was part of the My Encounter with the Rebbe project which is an oral history project which endeavors to document the story of the Rebbe’s life. (Thank G-d over 1,500 people have already been interviewed and many have drawn inspiration and guidance from them).
I want to share some snippets from the interview:
In the early 1970's Mr. Knopfler and his wife merited to go in to the Rebbe for Yechidus before getting married.
During the Yechidus, Mr. Knopfler spoke to the Rebbe regarding the Gush Emunim movement which he was involved in which advocated settling throughout the territories liberated by Israel in the Six Day War.
The Rebbe was very supportive of the project and advised that for the success of the activities it should better remain apolitical.
On that occasion the Rebbe also spoke of his view that the establishment of the State of Israel is not the beginning of the Redemption based on many Torah sources.
Mr. Knopfler also related what he had heard from Rabbi Nesanel Quinn, director of the renowned Yeshivah Torah Vodaas of Brooklyn, how when the Yeshivah was facing foreclosure because of lack of funds the Yeshivah administration turned to the Previous Rebbe for a blessing in Yechidus. The Previous Rebbe, in addition to his blessings, during that Yechidus gave them several thousand dollars in cash which enabled the Yeshivah to continue which it does to this day.
