Dan Goldman leads a crowded field of candidates in the Democrat primary for New York’s 10th Congressional District, which includes Boro Park.
In a new poll from PIX11/Emerson College Polling/The Hill, Goldman was chosen by 22% of Democrat voters. Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, a notorious BDS supporter, had 17%.
Goldman was endorsed by Bobov leadership on Sunday, the first endorsement from a major Orthodox group in the district.
Goldman is well-known as the prosecutor who helped Democrats lead the first impeachment effort against President Trump
Both Goldman and Niou will participate in a debate Wednesday at 8 p.m. Other candidates who will participate are City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera, who received 13%; Congressman Mondaire Jones, also at 13%; and Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon at 6%.
Former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman only received 4% and did not qualify to appear in the debate.
“With NY10 being a progressive leaning district, all top tier candidates have strong progressive stances,” Rabbi Joel Rosenfeld, a Bobov community leader said in a statement, quoted in Hamodia, “but one of them stood out as someone who our community can work with, and benefit from, once elected to Congress. Dan Goldman, who has strong Orthodox Jewish family ties, understands our needs and is a strong supporter of the Orthodox Jewish community,” the statement continued.
Goldman’s wife is reportedly Modern Orthodox.
Democrats in the poll were divided on their top issues. About 23% chose guns and crime as their priority. About 16% abortion rights, and another 16% the economy and inflation. On congestion pricing, 52% of voters in the district support it, 31% oppose it, and 18% were unsure.
Goldman has received the endorsement of the New York Times. The primary takes place Aug. 23, but early voting has already begun.
