Family Creates Mini-Meah Shearim in Hotel Lobby

A family celebrating a simcha at a hotel in the New York area turned the lobby of the venue into a full-on replica of Yerushalayim’s Meah Shearim neighborhood.

A video tour provided by an attendee shows the lobby decked out in signage, fake storefronts, and even workers dressed as Yerushalmis – all to create an atmosphere of being in the epicenter of Yerushalayim’s foremost charedi neighborhood.

As can be seen in the video below, the “stores” included Mefoar with tzitzis hanging outside of it, Falafel Geulah with non-Jewish servers dressed as Yerushalmim, and pashkevilin announcing a “kinnus neturei karta” hung on supporting pillars and walls.

Perhaps the only thing missing was having a group of chareidim yelling “Gevalt!” at guests as they arrived at the hotel.

just in name of accuracy; this wasn't a family gathering ; rather it was an organization for kidney donors and this was a shabbos in honor of all the kidney donors. You dont even need to be financially wealthy to be part of this upper crust!!

Well if that's the case that it was set up by a organization in honor of kidney donors well then I respectfully withdraw my initial kvetching, kudos to people who donate literally a part of themselves.

I was there as a spouse of a Kidney Donor. They had a fund raising campaign back in the spring. All kidney donors were asked to raise money for this very critical, worthy and life saving cause. Any kidney donors who raised over $5,000 was invited to the shabbaton. The theme they kept on repeating was how amazing it is that after literally donating an organ, the kidney donors knew their job wasn't finished. They continue assisting by raising funds and doing other volunteer work for the organization. It was truly inspiring.

I was personally there. It was a beautiful shabbaton arranged by Renewal for kidney donors. Donate a kidney and you could be part of this awesome organization

Renewal is a great organisation. But it's very sad that 30 to 40 percent of donations to this organisation as well as many others should go for such shenanigans

I was there also with my wife and 13 month old and my wife is a kidney donor. I am surprised that more kidney recipients are not brining in donors.

I am a donor and was at this beautiful and inspirational event. This was privately funded by someone who wanted to sponsor an appreciation weekend for donors. This isn't funded by annual fundraising campaign. Annual campaign goes towards transplants. Don't be so quick to judge.
