"Chilitzah" in Boro Park ... Hundreds attend

Am I missing something? Aren't there mitzvois done in private? The reporter in the clip asks this question, the guest being interviewed answers that if the pair are ok with it, then she sees no problem!

I have. a lot to comment about certain mitzvois done in private and what if the couple doesn't mind people watching?

I know that this ceremony needs a minyan, but hundreds? Little children?

The point of the Chalitza is to be done in public. And it's meant to degrade the man, not the woman.

Yes! A ceremony that has its roots in death, sorrow, loss and missed opportunities should especially be held as privately as possible. Instead, it is turned into a freak show...

In "public" means a minyan of 10 not hundreds and little children..
'You say that "it's meant to degrade the man, not the woman."
watching the video who do you think was degraded? the man or the woman?

Not so much to degrade anyone more that as many people as possible should know that the Chalitza was done (properly) and that they are now available once again to marry anyone of their choice.
Thats the Halacha and that how its been for 'all of time'.

I hope they were both asked first for how they felt about a large audience. It is fairly rare and an educational experience. The awkwardness of putting on a clumsily made lace up slipper, designed by chumra lovers is the worst part. Obviously the klutsy dayanim shoe designers are clueless, hopefully that doesn't invalidate the ritual.

I guarantee you that not one person in the audience knew the halacha, especially not the children.
as as as that "everyone should know that she is available" so why don't we invite hundreds and include children by a get?
