Funny thing. Norman Lear who created the show was a far-left liberal. Carol O'Connor was a far-left liberal. The point of the show was to have Archie Bunker be a repulsive conservative that the fans would hate while Meathead was supposed to be the hero of the show. But the actors were too good for their job. People loved Archie Bunker and looked at Meathead as an over-educated parasite living off his father-in-law's hard work while treating him like an imbecile. The opposite reaction.
