It remains unclear what specific role Rabbi Nathaniel Sommer of Monsey and his son, Aaron Sommer, allegedly played in the March 23 fire at Evergreen Court Home for Adults in Spring Valley that killed a resident and a firefighter, the newspaper reported.
The Sommers were arraigned Tuesday on charges of manslaughter, assault and arson in connection with the fire and are due back in court Friday. Information on their attorneys wasn’t available.
Volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd and a 79-year-old resident of the facility were killed in the fire, which caused a partial collapse of the building.
Records show that the Evergreen Court fire was reported about 90 minutes after the Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer had left the facility after preparing the kitchen for Passover, the Journal News reported.

I don't understand what is criminal about it. Negligence, maybe. BUt that's a civil matter. What would be the basis for criminal charges?
This is a case which the Frum community should raise money to provide the Sommers with the very best defence attorneys.
If someone dies as a result of one's action it becomes criminal.
It may not of been a result of the accused actions - fire was reported one and a half hours after they were finished - but the DA does need scapegoats.....
"If someone dies as a result of one's action it becomes criminal" Incorrect legal statement. it COULD BECOME criminal if certain circumstances are met, but it is not automatically criminal just because a death resulted. A perfect example is a Doctor NEGILIGENTLY killng a patient. Someone using your ladder, falls off and dies, Your car loses control and kills someone,.., I could cite hundreds of examples.
