9:51 Great Question and good observation! I'm all for everyone getting a well rounded education ... absolutely ... I have a yeshivah background that had a limited secular curriculum ... 1 1/2 hours each day Mon-Thursday ! The Yeshiva did not allow students to go to college...... We were all children of Holocaust Survivors and our parents could care less about our English they were just happy that we were alive ...... we all lived in a sheltered Chassidishe community ... we all took regents and our marks averaged in the 90's ... we studied on our own with "amsco" books..
From my class of 20 .... 4 eventually became doctors 7 became lawyers, 1 became a real Estate Magnate that owns skyscrapers and the rest successful business people .... My point is .... no one bitched about our poor education, no one bitched that we had to sneak out to go to college secretly .. those of us who wanted a better life ... did it the hard way despite our lack of secular education ... In a recent survey .... 90% of Public School children could not name our Vice President... Zero% could name our Secretary of State!...... 65% that graduate Elementary schools cannot fill out any forms properly! So let's start there !! I think that because of the long tiring day the Yeshivah kids have ... they should be taught English comprehension and Basic math .... That's it ... if they want or desire more and wish to make a better life of their own ... they can .. continue their secular education after they graduate yeshivah
I do not believe we need Government Regs in our private schools , and yes even though they get Federal And State grants ...that's what taxes are for ...
Having said all that ... I believe that Naftali Moster is a pompous arrogant rat ....whose motivation is insincere and ingenuous if he cared for the secular education of Jewish Children he would open his own schools and give parents the options ...
Interesting. Rockland County legislator Aron Wieder attended the same Satmar type yeshivah that Naftuli Moster did, and he doesn't seem to have any of Moster's difficulties. Neither does Simcha Eichenstein, the N.Y. State Assemblyman. However, Moster's father, Rabbi Feivish Moster completed his high school education at the Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland, and his career can hardly be described as a resounding financial success.
On the other hand, Moster's maternal grandfather, Rabbi Berel Zisman, who came to America as a penniless orphaned immigrant from Kovna is an esteemed Torah scholar as well as a multi-millionaire working in the construction industry. the ONLY secular education that Rabbi Zisman had was the beatings he received by the SS guards in the concentration camps where he was an inmate. Ironic, is it not?
Naftuli Moster has 16 siblings. Is it so farfetched to presume that Moster's negative feelings about his own yeshivah experience may have been more as a result of his family situation than the paucity of secular education provided by the Yeshiva. One wonders why Mosters 7 brothers do not seem to be so similarly deprived.
By the way, Naftuli's sister Chavie did receive a regular high school education at a Chasidic girl's school. So what's her beef? Why is she OTD? Is there something going on in the Moster family that compel certain members to leave Orthodoxy and blame it on the Yeshivas?
Not being cynical. Moster is a talmid of Belz in boro park, Belz moden-chasidic education of today is borderline haskala, unfortunatly the city keeps on placating why is it ok for belz and not for others? moster is a product of Belz education, he just took this old age struggle to a different level. Belz is the culprit.

It seems from your blog you are very anti-establishment, so can you explain why you are against Naftali Moster?

Just speculating.
Kudos.

Sounds like you listed the 'board of directors' for the Dus blog, Wow what an accomplishment indeed.
