Rabbi Avi Shulman Passes Away in Monsey

 

We are sad to inform readers of the passing of one of the most inspiring individuals of this past generation.  He was a man who changed the landscape of Torah observant Judaism in America.  He eschewed the title of Rabbi, calling himself Mr. Avi Shulman.

He was one of the founders of Torah uMesorah’s project SEED, which led tens of thousands of people to becoming true Bnei Torah.

His sole focus and passion was to help others – to help mechanchim, to help students, to help marriages.  He had remarkably unique skills and insights in which he accomplished these goals.

He was an observer.  He saw what the qualities were that created success, and what led to failures.  he took that wisdom and gave them over to others in remarkable ways.

He was a speaker, an educator, an invaluable life coach. He encouraged people to be the best that they can be.

Earth's population will hit EIGHT BILLION next week

 

The world's population is set to hit eight billion next week in a key milestone for humanity, according to the United Nations. 

The UN Population Division said that the population will continue to grow in the decades to come, with life expectancy set to increase to an average of 77.2 years by 2050.

By November 15, the number of humans on Earth will grow to eight billion, more than three times higher than the 2.5 billion global headcount in 1950.

The increase in life expectancy, as well as the number of people of childbearing age, has meant the UN predicts the world's population will continue growing to about 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and a peak of about 10.4 billion in the 2080s.

But the world's population growth rate, after a peak in the early 1960s, has decelerated dramatically to below 1 per cent in 2020, Rachel Snow of the UN Population Fund said.

That figure could potentially fall to around 0.5 percent by 2050 due to a continued decline in fertility rates, the United Nations projects.

In 2021, the average fertility rate was 2.3 children per woman over her lifetime, down from about five in 1950, according to the UN, which projects that number to fall to 2.1 by 2050.

'We've reached a stage in the world where the majority of countries and the majority of people in this world are living in a country that is below replacement fertility,' or roughly 2.1 children per woman, says Snow.

A key factor driving global population growth is that average life expectancy continues to increase: 72.8 years in 2019, nine years more than in 1990. And the UN predicts an average life expectancy of 77.2 years by 2050.

Maloney Tries to Bribe Satmar Vote with $94 Million in Federal Funds

Democrat Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, who is frantically struggling to win a tough race, is trying to persuade Chassidim to vote for him.

Maloney, a top Democrat House leader, is essentially trying to pump $94 million in federal funding into Kiryas Yoel.

In a letter obtained by The Washington Times, Maloney asked NY state officials to forgive the Satmar community’s debt for a huge water project.

The letter urged the New York Health Department to use funds from the Biden infrastructure law to forgive the debt incurred for a $94 million water project.

Maloney is currently engaged in a heated battle against Republican Mike Lawler in NY-17. Lawler has been a close friend of the Jewish community in Monsey.

Maloney chairs the House Democrats’ campaign operation, which would make a loss particularly humiliating.

Kiryas Yoel could deliver roughly 10,000 votes in Tuesday’s elections. The Satmar Rebbe, Rav Aharon Teitelbaum, has already endorsed Governor Hochul.

The town is completing a 13.5-mile pipeline project to connect itself to New York City’s Catskill Aqueduct for a long-term water supply.

“Their project is extremely important to the residents of the Village and has the potential to help multiple communities in the region better access reliable drinking water,” the letter said. “We ask for your firm commitment that New York State will give full and fair consideration of these requests which will expand access to clean and reliable drinking water in the Hudson Valley.”

That status quo maintains the rights of Muslims to pray at the mosques on the Temple Mount but prohibits Jews from doing the same.

MK Itamar Ben-Gvir (Religious Zionist Party) visited Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem Wednesday morning to meet with Ofer Ohana the volunteer paramedic who was wounded in Saturday night’s terrorist shooting attack in Hebron.

“I came to visit Ofer,” Ben-Gvir, a resident of the Givat Ha’Avot neighborhood of Kiryat Arba, adjacent to Hebron, told reporters outside of the hospital entrance.

“We’ve been friends for many years. He is a great and dear friend. I wish him a complete recovery, and we’re praying for him.”

Turning to Tuesday’s general election, Ben-Gvir said he would work to serve the entire country, including his critics.

“There are many people in the media… who don’t like me and who smear me. I’m working for everybody, that’s why I’m in politics. I’m working to strengthen the position of our soldiers and to make our country stronger.”

“I will do everything to ensure that a fully right-wing government is established, and I will work on behalf of everyone, including for those who don’t like me.”

Key Hasidic groups are endorsing Republican Lee Zeldin (R-Suffolk) for governor over Gov. Kathy Hochul in the latest sign that the incumbent is struggling with historically Democratic constituencies ahead of the final day of voting on Nov. 8.

Support from the Brooklyn-based Bobov, Bobov-45, Belz and Satmar groups could lead to thousands of additional votes for Zeldin as he pushes for a historic upset next week in a state where a Republican has not been elected governor in a generation.

We remember when he backed Obama's disastrous Iran Deal and told his naive sheep to write to Congressmen that they should dis-invite the then PM Bibi Netanyahu from addressing both houses of congress to explain to them that this deal was dangerous to the 6.8 million Jews living in Israel. Bucking the trend of nearly every major Orthodox Jewish voting bloc giving their full-throated support to Lee Zeldin, who has vowed to protect yeshivas, in the New York governor’s race, Satmar’s “Aronim” faction endorsed incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Hochul has remained on the sidelines since the NY Board of Regents voted to approve new “substantial equivalency” standards that threaten to take a wrecking ball to yeshiva education, whereas Zeldin has repeatedly blasted the move and pledged to support yeshivas as governor.

It isn’t yet clear why the Aronim faction has thrown its support behind Gov. Hochul, though rumors are swirling that a backroom deal (?) has been reached which would benefit the Satmar faction, but not necessarily anyone else.

Arab Attempts To Kidnap Chareidi Woman From Tiberias In Broad Daylight

 

 In a shocking incident which occurred in the town of Tiberias in broad daylight, an Arab man tried to kidnap and throw a married woman into his car. 

The young religious woman fought off the man and screamed, and he was later arrested by Shin Bet operatives. The suspect, a 51-year-old Arab resident of Yafia, is being investigated on suspicion of nationalist motives in the kidnapping. 

The suspect claimed to police that the woman had been mistaken and he had not intended the kidnapping.

Ben Gvir celebrates: Time for us to return to being the landlords of our country

 

The chairman of the Otzma Yehudit Party, MK Itamar Ben Gvir, spoke on Tuesday night at the party's headquarters at the VERT Jerusalem Hotel, after the Religious Zionist-Otzma Yehudit slate won 14-15 seats in the next Knesset, according to the results of the exit polls.

Ben Gvir said, "We still don't know if the bloc won 61 seats. I remember the celebrations of the last elections, which ended in a government with Ra'am. But what is certain is that we must give thanks for the great achievement of Religious Zionist-Otzma Yehudit, and for the great connection to the people of Israel.”

“I think the great achievement came, among other things, due to the fact that we represent everyone; secular and religious, haredim and traditional, Sephardim and Ashkenazim, city and village people, farmers, teachers, self-employed, policemen and soldiers, and all of them are all asking for real change. They want to walk safely on the street. They ask that the hands of our soldiers and policemen not be handcuffed.”

They want to make a complete separation between those who are loyal to the State of Israel and we have no problem with them, and those who undermine the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish state, and those who throw rocks and firebombs, hurt female prison guards and behave as if they are in charge.”

“The public wishes for a leadership that will protect the Land of Israel, that will develop the Negev and the Galilee, that will protect our capital Jerusalem and settle Judea and Samaria.”

“The public wants changes in the judicial system and independent judges, but more judges with a Jewish Zionist agenda.”

“It's still too early to summarize, but we have dreams and I promise even those who didn't vote for me, from distant parties, that we are brothers.”

Bear enters Carlebach Shul in Pomona and doesn't like that the Bima is not in the middle

 

A bear in apparent search of a minyan entered the Ohr Shlomo Chasidic Center, aka the Carlebach Shul, in Pomona near Monsey on Sunday night, walked around for a bit, and upon finding nobody to join him, left, but not before trying to figure out why the bima wasn't in the middle like other frum shuls.

Being near wooded areas, bears are not uncommon sightings around the shul, but a bear in the shul isn’t an everyday occurrence. In this case, someone left a door to the shul’s teen minyan room open, providing the oversized mammal with an opportunity to get inside.

Chassidim Attack Rebbetzin Yemimah Mizrachi N’shei Women’s Event in Yerushalayim

 A mega-gathering of all the N’shei organizations from across Yerushalayim devolved into chaos Sunday night when a group of Eitz hardliners attacked and attempted to break up the event.

The event, which was sponsored by Eretz HaKodesh, served as inspiration and chizzuk to the 500+ women who joined and featured Rebbetzin Yamima Mizrachi as the keynote speaker, as well as music by Mrs. Mimi Luria, as well as an address from an Eretz Hakodesh representative who explained the important work that they do.

In middle of the event, a bunch of goons who had heard about it through the various flyers distributed around Yerushalayim neighborhoods, crashed the event and began making problems.

At first, the hoodlums locked the doors to the venue with cable ties, then broke down the door and began throwing objects and stink bombs at the women. They proceeded to then attempt to physically destroy the event, overturning tables and knocking down signs.

Eventually, the women were able to get the radical loons out and police arrived to ensure the safety of the attendees.

“The event went on as scheduled, and it was beautiful despite certain individuals’ attempts to stop it,” an event attendee said:

 “Ootzoo eitzah v’sufar, dabru davar v’lo yakum.”
