Jonathan Pollard endorses Ayelet Shaked

Former Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard announced Tuesday morning his endorsement of Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and her Zionist Spirit party in the upcoming 2022 election.

In a video statement, Pollard declared himself an independent, but said that given the “difficult and dangerous time” Israel is in, he has decided to offer his support to Shaked.

“As everyone knows, I am not a member of any political party or faction. And to date, I have not formally endorsed any individual or slate,” Pollard said.

“I’m an independent whose only loyalty and concern is for the Land and People of Israel.”

“Because of my unqualified love of this country, and my dedication to her survival and wellbeing, I must now endorse someone who I know will serve Israel in a way that will safeguard both our core interests and our honor.”

“That person is Ayelet Shaked.”

“Yes, she exhibited misplaced loyalty in our last government. But I truly believe that she realizes the mistake that she made and will not repeat her error.”

“We need her now, free and clear of the bad influences that hurt both her personal reputation and her political credibility.”

“We all make errors in judgment. The difference is between those of us who refuse to acknowledge such errors, and those of us who recognize their errors and commit never to repeat them.”

“I believe that Ayelet Shaked is just such a person and deserves to be given an opportunity to continue being part of Israel’s leadership.”

“At this difficult and dangerous time in our history, we need and deserve a proven patriot like Ayelet Shaked.”

US Citizen Imprisoned in China to Be Executed After Losing Appeal

An American citizen faces execution in China now that his appeal of a murder conviction has been rejected.

Shadeed Abdulmateen was convicted of killing his former girlfriend, and the death sentence was announced in April.

After a trial by the High People’s Court of Eastern China’s Zhejiang Province, Abdulmateen’s appeal was rejected, CCTV reported, according to Reuters.

“The High People’s Court of Zhejiang Province … found that the facts found by the Ningbo Intermediate People’s Court were clear, the evidence was true and sufficient, the conviction was accurate, the sentence was appropriate and the trial procedure was lawful, so it made the above ruling,” CCTV reported.

The Supreme People’s Court will review the decision, which is largely a formality.

A U.S. Embassy spokesman said diplomats were “aware of a court decision related to a U.S. citizen.”

“We take seriously our responsibility to assist U.S. citizens abroad and are monitoring the situation,” the spokesman said. “Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment.”

Abdulmateen had taught English at Ningbo University of Technology, according to the South China Morning Post.

Abdulmateen had told the woman, whose name was only given as Chen, that he was divorced when he was not, state broadcaster CCTV said.

The two met in 2019 and soon became involved in a relationship.

China’s state-run Global Times said that events spiraled after Chen wanted to end the affair.

“Starting in May 2021, Chen said several times that she wanted a break-up, but she was always refused and verbally threatened by the man,” the Global Times reported.

According to the court, Abdulmateen met Chen at a bus stop in Ningbo, Zhejiang province in June 2021.

He then killed her with a “folding knife,” the court ruled.

Abdulmateen’s “premeditated revenge killing, stabbing and cutting Chen’s face and neck several times, resulting in Chen’s death, was motivated by vile motives, resolute intent and cruel means, and the circumstances of the crime were particularly bad and the consequences particularly serious, and should be punished according to law,” CCTV reported, according to CNN.

Amnesty International has reported that China sentences thousands of people to death each year, but the country does not release any official execution numbers.

Frum girl student outed as transgender

In the upcoming issue of B'Sheva, the weekly publication brings to light a shocking revelation about events that took place in a religious elementary school in Israel. The affair raises questions about the systemic mismanagement of a sensitive issue for the general public and religious sector in particular.

The affair came to light after parents contacted Roni Sassover, Chief Executive Officer of the 'Meirim' social welfare organization, telling her that about a month ago, they accidentally found out that one of the students happens to be a girl taking on a male identity.

When concerned parents contacted the school administration, they learned to their astonishment that staff was well aware of the secret but had knowingly withheld the information.

After learning of the deception, enraged parents sharply criticised decisions made by the school which, in their opinion, "abandoned their children." Parents of the student's classmates claim that the conduct of the school staff runs contrary to the values of the religious school system, risking their children discovering the truth about their classmate by accident and without any prior preparation.
