Another Young Teenager Dies in Monsey

A 19-year-old Charedi, Yehuda Chaim Rubin, died tragically on Tuesday in Monsey, New York.

According to the Behadrey Haredim news website, Rubin was found dead in his apartment by friends. The friends called an ambulance, but the paramedics had no choice but to pronounce him dead.

The police took the body for an autopsy, the report said, and thanks to the work of the Misaskim organization, which safeguards the dignity of the deceased, the body was released, and Rubin’s funeral was held on Wednesday at the cemetery in Monsey. Jewish law prohibits autopsies, considered an affront to the dead, unless a rabbinic decisor rules otherwise, such as in the case of public danger from an undiagnosed and possibly contagious disease.

A friend of Yehuda Chaim told Behadrey Haredim, “I know him so well, what an incredible pain…my friends and I are simply shocked. He was such a good person, he always helped everyone in the store where he worked. After we did not hear from him for half a day, we tried to contact him, but without success. One of the friends called the rescue forces to the apartment where he lived, and unfortunately there was nothing they could do to save him.

Behadrey Haredim reported that Rubin’s family had lived in Israel in the past before moving to the United States several years ago.

Jewish Mother of 6 Thrown In Jail by Ohio Judge

An Orthodox Jewish mother of 6, who has been battling her ex-husband to allow her to raise her children in an Orthodox Jewish home, has been thrown in jail by an Ohio Judge. 

An Orthodox Jewish mother of six who was barred from speaking with her own children because she insisted on raising them in a religious home has been thrown in jail because she lacked the financial means to reimburse her wealthy ex-husband $10,000 in court costs as order by an Ohio judge. 

Julie Goffstein and her husband Peter Goffstein had been raising their boys as members of the Chabad community in Cincinnati when Peter Goffstein decided that he no longer wanted to live a religious lifestyle. 

Given an ultimatum of choosing between her religion and her marriage, Julie chose to continue living her life as a Jew and the Goffstein’s bitter divorce began to unfold in 2010. 

After hearing the testimony of 11 character witnesses and two court ordered evaluations, Judge Jon Sieve of the Hamilton County, Ohio Court of Common Pleas awarded full custody of all of the Goffstein children to their mother, specifically noting the importance of continuity for the boys who had been raised in an Orthodox home.

Nine months later, Peter filed for a reallocation of custody and within weeks Judge Sieve had reversed his decision, awarding Peter full custody of the four younger children, observing that Julie’s insistence on sending the children to yeshiva was not in their best interest. 

While Judge Sieve’s ruling allowed the children to remain in yeshiva, Julie was held responsible for paying their tuition, with Peter given the authority to make all of the children’s educational decisions. 

Over time, the situation continued to deteriorate, with Peter filing multiple lawsuits against his former wife and Julie moved with the two older boys to Crown Heights where they continued in yeshiva, while the four younger boys were sent to public school against their will by their father.

As the court battles continued, Peter Goffstein continued to keep the younger children shielded from both their mother and their Jewish heritage, allegedly chopping off one child’s payos, removing the boys’ yarmulkas and making them eat pork. 

Friends of Julie’s also reported that he smeared urine on one child’s face as a punishment for a religious observance and that Peter repeatedly bullied anyone who supported Julie’s mission of raising her sons in an observant home. 

Eventually the court forbade Julie from discussing any religious matters with her sons, and she was found in contempt of court for telling one son of her efforts to get him back into yeshiva.

While Peter is extremely wealthy, Julie’s financial situation is very bleak, having been stripped of all marital assets by Judge Sieve. 

His latest decision, holding Julie in contempt of court for being unable to reimburse her ex-husbands court costs and sending her to jail, seems to be the latest obstacle thrown at Julie simply because she has chosen to raise her sons as practicing members of the Jewish faith. 

Julie’s sons, ranging in age from nine to eighteen are living a life of turmoil, with the younger boys facing their father’s reported harassment and the two older boys now living alone in Crown Heights because of Julie’s imprisonment.

The person who feared persecution of the State of Israel or of his enemies was not killed by his enemies .... The person who decided that it was a danger to live in the State of Israel and wished to destroy her, did not die because he remained in Israel.

What is even more ironic .... is ...that we would not be surprised that the State of Israel takes ownership of his body and the Israeli Embassy in Mexico and the Minister of Foreign Affairs arranges for his burial!

Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans, founder of the Lev Tahor ultra-Orthodox sect, found dead in a river in Mexico

Rabbi Shlomo Erez Helbrans, 55, leader of the "Lev Tahor" ("Pure Heart") ultra-Orthodox sect, was found drowned in a river in the Mexican state of Chiapas on Friday, according to local media.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying the reports were being looked into by the Israeli embassy in Mexico.

According to local media, Helbrans' body was pulled from the river by rescue forces on Friday afternoon after the rabbi was swept away by strong currents while swimming before Shabbat.

Rabbi Helbrans was the head of a group of forty ultra-Orthodox families who entered the state of Chiapas about three weeks ago, after crossing the border from Guatemala.

From Israel to the US, Canada, Guatemala and finally Mexico

Helbrans was born Shlomo Elbarnes into a secular family in Jerusalem, only becoming religious as a young man. He studied at the Itri Yeshiva in Jerusalem before founding the Lev Tahor sect in the 1980s.

Lev Tahor is an ultra-Orthodox sect comprised of predominantly Israeli Haredi extremists who leave their families behind in Israel as part of a wider boycott of Zionism. The group is widely considered to be a cult for its extreme conduct which adheres to the strict word of Jewish scripture.

In the 1990s, the movement was under investigation by Israeli authorities for allegedly collaborating with Islamist elements against state security. Helbrans fled to the United States along with several students who were smuggled out of Israel with fake passports. As such, an additional investigation into Helbrans for kidnapping was launched.

Whilst in the United States, Helbrans was arrested and served two years in prison for kidnapping after assisting a 13-year-old boy go into hiding from his secular mother.

After his release from prison in the US, Helbrans was to be deported to Israel, but instead fled to Canada where he was granted refugee status after claiming persecution in Israel for his religious and political beliefs.

Underage marriage, beatings and psychiatric drugs

According to estimates, the sect numbers about 230 people, of whom about 150 are children.

About three and a half years ago, Canadian authorities blocked the group from transferring underage members to Guatemala after Canadian courts issued a decree requiring some children to be transferred to foster families after being found to have been severely abused.

Welfare officials in Ontario and Quebec claimed that they had evidence of abuse involving beatings, underage marriage, and illegal education. However, the sect succeeded in transferring a number of the children to Guatemala giving rise to a legal battle over the last few years to expel them back to Canada.

In September 2016, at the request of Israeli authorities, Guatemalan law enforcement raided the Lev Tahor compound and arrested its leaders on suspicion of child abuse. The raid prompted its members to leave the site to a new location in eastern Guatemala, and complain that they were being persecuted due of their faith.

Helbrans and the group had crossed the Guatemalan border into the Mexican state of Chiapas several weeks ago.

So it's natural that his successor would follow the same minhag even if it may very well annihilate the entire French Jewish Community!

Then he outright lied and told the French Jews:

"Specifically in Israel, children learn in public schools," one of the influential businessmen said. "And because of that, we're losing our next generation."

That is a bald faced lie, since there are over 300,000 Jewish children learning in Frum Schools in Israel, 100,000 are American boys from the USA.

There is more Torah learned in Israel now in the year 2017 than anytime in Jewish history, going back to Moshe Rabbeinu.

Over the past two years, France's growing anti-Semitism and terror have led a record number of French Jews to immigrate to Israel. However, the Chasidic rebbe said, these Jews also lose their connection to Jewish tradition.

The Satmar and Pshevorsk rebbes have worked to create schools which teach only Jewish studies, in an attempt to persuade the local Jewish community to provide their children with a Jewish education and not to leave France.

"Your place is here," the Satmar Rebbe said on Tuesday night. "Don't move to Israel."

He explained that his fathers, the founders of his hasidic sect, worked to provide for the spiritual welfare of Moroccan and Algerian Jews. Already decades ago, they built schools for these communities' children, or provided support to the existing schools.

"Today, many people are leaving for Israel, and cutting off all connection with Judaism," the Satmar Rebbe continued. "It's a spiritual holocaust."

"You must continue to stay here, and send your children only to schools which provide a true Jewish education."

The Satmar Rebbe of Monroe, R' Aron Teitelbaum, has now taken the stand that the protests against the IDF Recruitment, instigated by his brother, R' Zalman Leib, are Fake and  Phony!

R' Aron  mockingly said that there are over 60,000 Yeshivah Boys in Bnei Brak and Yerushalayim learning Torah and no one is in jail!
