MBD the one who copied "goyeshe" music all his life, a prime example, the song "Yiddin" (Song STOLEN from the German group, "Genghis Kahn") berates All Jews that are not chassidish saying that they copy and steal music instead of buying his CD! He added that Chassidim know the Shulchan Aruch and would never copy CDs ...

What a sick comment! Mr. MBD.... there are more Jews learning in Eretz Yisroel then any time in Jewish History, probably going back to Matan Torah!

What would the  Rebbe say about  Frum Jews dressed in Streimlich and "Vasseh Zoken" spitting on 8 year old girls? How about destroying Jewish Book Stores in Yerushalayim? Was the Rebbi advocating violence on other Jews? 
What do you think, MBD, that Chilonim would stand with their hands folded while Charaidim destroy the very country that the Chilonim built with their own hands?

In an interview with Israeli radio host Menachem Toker last Motzei Shabbos, Mordechai Ben David offered his thoughts on the current situation in Israel.

Quoting the Satmar Rebbe, Reb Yoel, zt’l, MBD called the continuous clashes between the Chiloni and Chareidi community very frightening.

“The Satmar Rebbe, R’ Yoelish was correct.  He was completely right. He said there would come a time when Chareidi Jews would not be able to live in Eretz Yisroel.  Hashem Yiracheim.”

Speaking about the general anti-Chareidi bias emanating from the secular community and not the recent events in Beit Shemesh, MBD attributed the conflict to the Chiloni community becoming concerned by the rising birth rate among the Chareidi community and likened it to biblical times when the Mitzrim were afraid that they would be outnumbered by Bnei Yisroel.

“There are so many Chareidi babies being born and iy’H we will grow in our simcha and in our Avodas Hashem and as we grow stronger our light will overcome the darkness,”  said MBD.

MBD also discussed his most recent album, Kissufim, and suggested that despite earlier statements that this was his final album, it is possible that there could be additional Chasidic albums in his future.

Citing excellent sales of the album, which featured exclusively Chasidic music MBD said, “this proves to me that true Chasidim don’t copy music and those who are not so Chasidic are the ones who are doing the copying.  I have my finger on the pulse of American buyers.  In the Chasidic areas, like Monsey, Monroe, Borough Park and Williamsburg, it is flying off the shelves.  Apparently true Chasidim learn Shulchan Aruch and they don’t steal.”

When asked to comment regarding the interview and his possible return to the studio MBD told VIN News, “I’m not back in music. All I said to Toker is the fact that the Kissufim album, which is Chassidish, sold better than expected, proving that the chasidishe velt doesn’t copy or steal like the others. ‘Maybe’ I would consider doing another. But honestly I don’t think that’ll happen so fast. It’s just too much work.”

Chazan Arele Klein Passes on at 76

DIN: Great Chazzan, Master at nusach and a great "Zuger" he will be missed! 

 We are saddened to share the news of the passing of world-renowned Cantor Ari Klein Z"L.

The Jewish world is mourning the passing of Cantor Yehuda Aharon (Ari) Klein z”l, a beloved chazzan, composer, and influential figure in Jewish music, who died early Monday at the age of 76 after a prolonged illness.

Born in Montreal, Ari Klein began his musical journey as a child prodigy, releasing his debut album “Hallel V’Zimrah” at just 12 years old in 1961. Over the decades, he served as a chazzan in prestigious synagogues around the world, including pulpits in Sydney, Johannesburg, and most recently at Park East Synagogue in Manhattan—a position later filled by renowned cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot.

In addition to his cantorial work, Klein released a number of well-regarded Jewish music albums featuring his own compositions. These included “Pitchu Li Shaarei Tzedek” (1975), “Shaagat Aryeh” (1978), “The Lonely Nation” (1980), and “Selah” (1989), among others. His work was often arranged by respected musicians such as, Hershel Lebovits, and Israel Lamm. He also collaborated with the legendary Cantor David Werdyger z”l, who produced several tracks on The Lonely Nation.

Klein was not only a musical talent but also a powerful influence behind the scenes. He was the brother-in-law of Jewish music superstar Mordechai Ben David (MBD), and is credited with encouraging MBD to pursue his career in music. In interviews, MBD often recalled how Klein physically pulled him to the microphone at a wedding to sing—marking a turning point that would launch his own musical path. The two would sit together at the piano, writing melodies and harmonizing in their youth.

Ari Klein also introduced MBD to the Ribnitzer Rebbe zt”l, forming a connection that would last for decades. Klein himself maintained a deep and enduring relationship with the revered tzaddik.

Throughout his life, Klein appeared frequently in concerts and services, including in Israel alongside figures like Mordechai Sobol. In 2000, he released an album of cantorial pieces titled “Selichos.” His final recording, released in 2020, was a duet with his son Mendy titled “LeOlam.”

Klein’s passing marks the end of an era. A gifted vocalist, composer, and spiritual leader, he brought sanctity and joy to countless weddings, holidays, and prayer services around the world. His powerful voice and inspiring presence left a profound mark on Jewish music and liturgical life.

The levaya (funeral) was held on Monday at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Boro Park, with burial following at Har Shalom Cemetery in Monsey. Shiva is being observed at his residence at 245 West 99th Street, Apt. 6B, in Manhattan.

Legendary Jewish Music Producer Sheya Mendlowitz Passes at 61

 

R’ Sheya Mendlowitz, a music producer whose work heavily influenced the landscape of frum, bataamte music for four decades passes away. He was 61.

A trailblazer and visionary in the music industry, he produced hundreds of music albums, including some of the greatest hits for Mordechai Ben David and Avraham Fried. He was also the producer of 15 of the legendary HASC concerts, the first one of which took place 35 years in January of 1988 at the Lincoln Center, when Sheya was just 25 years old.

Sheya grew up in Flatbush, attending Yeshiva Torah Temimah as a child. His entry into the world of music came through his second grade rebbi, Rabbi Eli Teitelbaum z”l, who headed the original Pirchei Choir. Sheya joined the choir, appearing on the fourth Pirchei Choir LP, and later sang on the Sdei Chemed albums.

In 1979, he co-produced the Amudei Sheish Boys choir LP, then solo-produced the Amudei Sheish Wedding Album which was released the following year.

Sheya went on to produce Avraham Fried’s first solo album, entitled “No Jew Will Be Left Behind” in 1981. That same year, Sheya was involved with two of MBD’s releases: “Mordechai Ben David Live” (his first live album) and “Memories”, which was written in memory of his mother, A”H. Over the following years, Sheya and MBD jointly produced a number of hit albums together, including: his “MBD & Friends” (1987), “Mostly Horas” (1987), “Yisroel Lamm & The Philharmonic Experience” (1988), and “25 Years of Jewish Music” (1988). Sheya Mendlowitz went on to produce MBD’s “Simen Tov – Keitzad” (single album) (1989), and “The Double Album” (1990).

Sheya produced his first concert in 1981 at the Felt Forum in Madison Square Garden, featuring Mordechai ben David.

He was the composer of one of the most famous “Siman Tov U’Mazal Tov” tunes of all time – first sung by the chasunah of the Belzer Rebbe’s son – which is still used at Jewish weddings throughout the world.

Sheya had a special fondness for authentic Jewish music, and insisted on promoting it as much as possible.

“One thing I have tried to do is to preserve Jewish music. Everything is influenced by its surroundings and people try to take the rhythms of secular music and put Jewish words to it, but I wonder if that’s really Jewish music,” he said in an interview earlier this year. “So what I’ve tried to do is preserve the Jewish identity of the music. The stuff that’s lasted through time are the real old, old songs- the chasideshe stuff and the Carlebach stuff and the Modzitzer stuff, because if you take all the arrangements and extras out of it, you’re left with a beautiful, pure melody.”

Sheya suffered terribly from a slew of ailments and medical conditions the past few years. Incredibly, he never complained. As he was unable to walk the past few years, close friends made a Shul for him in his home where there Minyanim every Shabbos and Yom Tov. He always had a smile and a good word for everyone.

He was in and put of the hospital recently, and his condition deteriorated until his Petira early Friday morning.

The Levaya will be on Sunday morning at Shomrei Hadas on 14th Avenue and 38th Street.

Popular singer Mordechai Ben David, commonly known as MBD, claimed that COVID-19 is "just flu" and that the media is fear-mongering.

"Coronavirus is flu," Ben David said in an interview with Radio Kol Hai's Menachem Toker. "In my opinion it's just money, it's Pfizer's money mill. The media is trying to instill fear in us, so that everyone will get vaccinated out of fear."

A group of about 200 Chareidim came to the Mayor's house to riot against the huge Simchas Beis HaShoeva event that he orchestrated at the Amphi.

The Mayor isn't even in the city right now, yet they chose to come specially by bus,  causing damage to his property.

Neighbors called the police, who came 10 minutes later, and the rioters then got back on the bus and left the area.

Mordechai Ben David visits Sexual Predator Rabbi Berland

The "Groiseer" Tzaddik MBD took time to visit the admitted sexual predator and fiend R' Berland....
G-D forbid he should visit the victims that are scarred for life!

Two weeks after Rabbi Eliezer Berland's house arrest expired, hasidic singer Mordechai Ben David visited Rabbi Berland's study hall.

Upon his release, Rabbi Berland took part in a Simchat Beit Hashoeva celebration honoring the anniversary of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov's passing.

Rabbi Eliezer Berland, 80, is the founder of the Shuvu Banim Yeshiva in the Old City of Jerusalem and was once a leading figure in the Breslov community. He was accused in 2013 of molesting two female followers and was sentenced last November to 18 months in prison.

However, five months into his sentence he was released to a hospice to receive regular treatment for serious health problems he has suffered in recent years.

Last month, some of the women filed a civil suit for four million shekels ($1.14 million) and requested Rabbi Berland not be allowed to leave Israel.

Yeedle Werdyger, Son of MBD, Alive and Well After Car Accident Nearly Claimed His Life and The Lives of His Family

 One of the biggest names in Jewish music, Yeedle Werdyger, son of Mordechai Ben David, was saved from a car accident on Motzei Shabbos when he was on his way back from a simcha.

While driving on the Interstate 80, he saw a woman’s vehicle spin out of control and hit the guardrail. He stopped his vehicle and got out to help her. He immediately called 911 and a police officer arrived quickly. As he and the officer were helping the woman another car swerved by narrowly missing them. But the singer wasn’t out of danger just yet.

The officer asked Yeedle to move his car to the side of the road, and while Yeedle was moving his car, another car that was traveling quickly down the highway tried to slam on its break to avoid a collision with the stopped vehicles and rammed into Yeedle’s car. The vehicle was a truck and it slammed into Yeedle’s car and completely destroyed it. Miraculously, his wife and son were unharmed, as was the singer himself.

“God sent a messenger to save my family,” Yeedle told reporters after the incident. “The driver who initially had lost control of her vehicle was confused and may have been driving under the influence or in shock. When the truck slammed on its breaks behind us, it flipped over and hit us with its roof. We are lucky to be alive today. I was so happy to just be alive and I can’t stop thanking Hashem for the miracle he did for me and my family.”

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas YM"S declared Thursday that his people’s rights “are not up for bargaining” and he accused the U.S. of undermining the two-state solution, a day after President Donald Trump suggested for the first time in office that he “liked” the long-discussed idea as the most effective way to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Abbas halted ties with Trump’s administration in December after the U.S. recognized contested Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and Palestinians have said a pending U.S. peace plan will be dead on arrival because of that and other recent U.S. moves that Palestinians see as favoring Israel.

“Jerusalem is not for sale,” Abbas said to applause as he began his speech at the annual U.N. General Assembly. “The Palestinian people’s rights are not up for bargaining.”

He said Palestinians would never reject negotiation, but that “it’s really ironic that the American administration still talks about what they call the ‘deal of the century.’”

“What is left for this administration to give to the Palestinian people?” he asked. “What is left as a political solution?”

MBD Concert in Netivot Cancelled Due To Hamas Rockets

Chasidic music artist Mordechai Ben-David Werdyger was forced to cancel his performance this morning in the town of Netivot.

"Following the security situation, the Home Front Command issued directives that impose restrictions on the gathering of a large crowd in an open area in Netivot, so we are forced to cancel the performance of Mordechai ben David in Netivot, which was supposed to take place today Thursday, in order to protect the residents' security.

It should be noted that the show will be postponed to another date. The Municipality emphasizes that: "For those interested, the card will be valid for the next date, but all ticket holders have the right to receive a refund."

It should be noted that the blog  "Kikar Hashabat" reported that Rabbi Shmuel Montag, a city rabbi, issued a letter against the performance. 

According to him, this is an evening that was prohibited by the "great rabbis of Israel."

Businessman and real estate mogul Meir Gurvitz has entered the race to purchase El Al Airlines Ltd., the Israeli airline that has been hit hard financially due to lack of business as an outcome of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Calcalist.

The 56-year-old works out of the US and filed an application to the Companies Authority for a permit that would allow him to purchase between 25% and 40% of the airline's shares.

 

Gurvitz's requested permit would not demand the acquisition of control over the company, unlike that of Eli Rozenberg, the son of Kenny (Naftali) Rozenberg, who was the first bidder announced to express interest in purchasing El Al.

Gurvitz, according to Calcalist, holds a pilot's license and belongs to some haredi (ultra-Orthodox) circles.

The new player in the bid to purchase the airline company is an Israeli, born in Kiryat Atta, who left the country when he was only 15 to study in a religious Yeshiva in Gateshead, in northern England.

Later, after moving to London, he started trading in building materials what led him to real estate. 

In 1996, Gurvitz made his first significant fortune after a successful investment during a period of depression in the British real estate market with his then-business partner Moti Zisser.

Eli Rozenberg 26 year-old, Now El Al Majority Shareholder

After speculation that has lasted months, it is now being reported that the new majority shareholder of El Al is a 26-year-old chareidi Jew, by the name of Eli Rozenberg.

The news, reported by Globes.com, came after El Al formally put their shares up on the public market on Wednesday.

Notably missing in the bidding process were Meir Gurvitz (MBD son-in-law) and David Sapir, who had previously expressed interest in purchasing the airline, leaving Rozenberg the sole bidder.

Rozenberg purchased 43% of the company’s shares, making him the controlling shareholder. The shares were reportedly purchased for approximately $100 million.

Eli Rozenberg is the son of New York businessman Kenny Rozenberg, the founder and CEO of Centers Health Care.

Eli had previously formed the Aviation Eagles Wings company while working towards purchasing the airline. In doing so, he famously recruited former US envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt to serve as his adviser.

Reb Yanky (Jack) Meyer Founder of Misaskim and Leading Askan Dies at 58

 

Yanky suffered from a terrible illness in recent months and his condition severely deteriorated in the weeks prior to his tragic petirah.

Yanky was an incredible human being, a person whose magnanimity and selflessness may never truly be understood, and someone whose relentless drive to help others deprived him of every basic worldly pleasure. He was simply too busy devoting his life to helping console those in pain and providing support to anyone he could possibly help, to enjoy even a single night of uninterrupted sleep.

Yanky was a devoted member of Boro Park Hatzolah for around 35 years, a position in which he was fondly known as “B-41.” He also volunteered for Tomchei Shabbos of Boro Park, spending each Thursday night delivering food to dozens of families who didn’t have the means to buy what they needed.

Yanky was a chaplain in multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Port Authority Police, NJ Transit Police, the Office of the Medical Examiner of NYC, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and was a senior NYPD Clergy Liaison, as well.

Yanky was trusted by all, including every NYC mayor and NYPD commissioner since the days of Rudy Giuliani, as well as high-ranking officials in the NYPD, FDNY, and many other agencies. In a world often in turmoil, Yanky was a voice of reason, calm, and respect, and all admired him for that.

Yanky used his vast connections and contacts to prevent thousands of autopsies over the years and assist in bringing Jews to Kevuras Yisroel in a timely manner. In times of tragedy, Yanky z”l was always leading the restoration of stability, and he had a unique knack for informing families of the sudden loss of a loved one with care and sensitivity, somehow managing to provide a measure of comfort even when people were in their deepest pain.

Chazzan David Werdyger Father of MBD Dies!

Petira of the famed Chazzan, Reb David Werdyger Z”L, considered one of the pioneers of 20-century Jewish music, and the father of the world-famous Mordechai Ben David.

Reb David Werdyger was born on October 30, 1919 in Poland. A Holocaust survivor who was incarcerated in several Nazi concentration camps, including the factory run by Oskar Schindler, 

Reb David moved to Brooklyn, New York after World War II and began recording albums featuring the music of the Bobov, Boyan, Skulen, Melitz, Radomsk, and Ger Hasidic dynasties, recording 60 albums in all.

 He also founded and operated a successful travel agency, Werdyger Travel, and established the Jewish record label, Aderet Records, which is now managed by his son Mendy. He is the father of popular Jewish singer Mordechai Ben David and the grandfather of Jewish singers Yeedle (Mordechai’s son) and Yisroel Werdyger (Mendy’s son).

The Werdyger family was known in Poland for its musical talent, and as a youngster, David’s singing ability was readily apparent. At the age of six he became the soloist in the choir of the Eizik Yeikeles Synagogue in Kraków, and at age 12 he was invited by Yankel Talmud, the leader of the Gerrer choir, to be a soloist in that choir in the town of Ger. On Rosh Hashana, he sang before the Gerrer Rebbe, the Imrei Emes, and thousands of Chasidim.

With the Nazi occupation of Poland in September 1939, he was subject to frequent arrests and forced labor on the streets of Kraków. In the summer of 1940, when the Nazis ordered all Jews to leave the city, Reb David’s family moved to an uncle’s home in Proszowice. In response to rumors of a mass deportation, David, his unmarried sister Yettie, and his parents went into hiding with 16 others in a bunker in their uncle’s warehouse, where they were cared for by a Polish employee. Three weeks later, they sneaked into the Podgórze ghetto of Kraków. From there, his parents bought their way out of the ghetto into Sosnowice, where one of their married daughters was living. David never saw them again.

In the ghetto, David worked in forced labor battalions, and when a mass deportation took place in the Podgórze ghetto, he went into hiding with 15 others. Two weeks later, his group was ferreted out of their hiding place and taken with 180 other ghetto residents to the Kraków-Płaszów concentration camp to be shot by firing squad.

 Each man passed before German Nazi camp commandant Amon Göth; when it was David’s turn, Göth asked him what type of work he did. “I am a professional singer, and I have a trained soprano voice,” he replied. “Would you like to hear something?” Momentarily taken aback, Göth replied, “Sing the song you Jews chant when you bury your dead.” Reb David began singing the traditional Jewish prayer for the dead, Kel Molei Rachamim (“God, Full of Compassion”), with great feeling and power, ending with a thunderous “Amen.” His voice so moved Göth that the commandant directed him to the camp rather than to the firing squad; he was one of the 40 men saved from execution that day.
He was an inmate in the Płaszów for five months, after which he was transferred to the nearby factory under the direction of Oskar Schindler. He also spent time in the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp and the Linz labor camp, where he was liberated on Saturday, 5 May 1945.

After the war, Reb David found his eldest brother, Yaakov Meir, and youngest sister, Yettie, still alive. He then traveled to to attend Yaakov Meir’s wedding and was there introduced to Malka Godinger (1923–1980), daughter of Meir Godinger. They married shortly after. Several months later he and his wife left for Paris, France, where their first son, Yisrael Aryeh, was born. Four years later, in February 1950, they sailed to New York.

The couple had three more sons in America: Mordechai, Chaim, and Mendel (Mendy). He encouraged his four young sons to sing with him in the recording studio and in concert.Mordechai began calling himself by his Hebrew patronymic, Mordechai Ben David, when he launched his solo singing career in the 1970s.

Upon arrival in New York, Reb David began working as a Chazan in the Warshever Shul on Rivington Street; after a year he moved to the Chasam Sofer Shul on the Lower East Side. His fame as a Chazan spread, and he signed a contract with the New Lots Talmud Torah Shul, which was famous for the high-caliber hazzanim that it attracted. Within a few months of this appointment, he began receiving invitations to appear in concert, and he performed before audiences of thousands in Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and other cities.
