Rep. Eliot Engel Says He Doesn’t Care About Riots

NY Rep. Eliot Engel, the 16-term Democratic congressman got himself into a mess on Tuesday when he openly stated that he doesn’t care about the riots and looting taking place in the city.

Only, we weren’t supposed to hear it.

Engel’s remarks were caught on a hot mic at a press conference with local leaders and elected officials following a night of heavy protests in the Bronx.

Engel had asked Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. if he could have a turn at the microphone to say a few words. Diaz Jr. replied that there were too many people already on the list. It was then that Engel mumbled something through his face mask.

“What was that?” Diaz Jr. asked.

“If I didn’t have a primary, I wouldn’t care,” Engel repeated.

Engel released a statement defending his words following the blunder, saying that since he is running for reelection, he felt he needed to clarify his stance to the voters.

“Of course I care deeply about what’s happening in this country, that’s what I wanted to convey,” sadid Engel. “I love the Bronx, grew up in the Bronx and lived here all my life,” he continued.

“I would not have tried to impose on the Borough President if I didn’t think it was important,” he added.

Engel recently was criticized for not returning to his Bronx district while the COVID-19 pandemic raged on.

It was also recently reported that Engel had failed to repay a controversial $125,000 “mortgage loan” from one of his top campaign donors.

Apple is tracking iPhones stolen by looters

Apple has an eerie message for the looters who have pillaged its stores during recent protests: 

We’re watching you.

Thieves who made off with iPhones from ransacked Apple retail locations in recent days quickly learned that the gadgets were loaded with special security software, as they displayed a message on their screens indicating that their locations were being monitored.

“Please return to Apple Walnut Street,” read the onscreen message of an iPhone stolen from an Apple store in Philadelphia, according to social media posts. “This device has been disabled and is being tracked. Local authorities will be alerted.”

Apple — which has recently been gearing up to reopen over 100 stores across the United States following an extended closure due to the coronavirus pandemic — saw locations attacked and looted in cities including New York, Los Angeles and Washington.

The looting sprang from a week of civil unrest and protests following the police killing of George Floyd, an event which Apple chief Tim Cook called “senseless” in a memo to employees over the weekend.

“I have heard from so many of you that you feel afraid — afraid in your communities, afraid in your daily lives, and, most cruelly of all, afraid in your own skin,” Cook said in the note, which was published by multiple news outlets.

“To our colleagues in the Black community — we see you,” he added. “You matter, your lives matter, and you are valued here at Apple.”

New York City is awash with rioting, fires, and looting, while Bill De Blasio is fiddling with ensuring that the stores and shops on 13th Avenue remain closed and strictly follow Corona pandemic restrictions.

Every News station in New York is depicting sheer mayhem in the streets. Storefront glass are shattered by looters and rioters. Police vans are burning. The irony of entire neighborhoods having every store window shattered and dozens of rioters illegally entering and then exiting with shopping bags filled with stolen items has not been lost on Boro Park reidents.

“We are peaceful, and the mayor is coming down with an iron fist upon us,” remarked, “Duvid’l, who did not wish to divulge his last name.  “Look what is happening all around.  The mayor has completely lost his mind.  Police officers everywhere else are being attacked by rioters and this is where he sends squad cars?”

Nadler's Iran cyberattack on Israel’s water supply could have sickened hundreds

Iran tried to increase chlorine levels in the water flowing to residential areas during April’s cyberattack against Israel’s water systems, a Western intelligence official has told the Financial Times.

The official told the British newspaper in a report published Monday that hundreds of people would have been at risk of getting sick and that the attack was close to being successful.

The head of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate hinted last week that the attack may have aimed to mix chlorine or other chemicals into the water supply.

Additionally there was a chance that the attack would have triggered a fail-safe, shutting down the pumps and leaving thousands without water during during the recent deadly heatwave in Israel.

“It was more sophisticated than they [Israel] initially thought,” the Western official said. “It was close to successful, and it’s not fully clear why it didn’t succeed.”

An unnamed Israeli official told the Financial Times that the attack created “an unpredictable risk scenario” by starting a tit-for-tat wave of attacks on civilian infrastructure, something both countries had so far avoided.

Monsey Judge Takes The Side of Blacks & Latinos and Throws Yeshivos Under the Bus in East Ramapo Schools Case

A federal judge sided with black and Latino voters in East Ramapo Tuesday, saying the method that allowed Orthodox Jewish members to dominate the area’s school board violated the Voting Rights Act.

U.S. District Court Judge Cathy Seibel said the East Ramapo Central School District will be banned from using the at-large voting method to elect school board members in elections scheduled for June 9, Lohud.com reported. Instead, the district has 30 days to come up with a ward-based plan for electing board members.

The goal “is to ensure that every voter has equal access to the electoral process,” the judge wrote. “For too long, black and Latino voters in the District have been frustrated in that most fundamental and precious endeavor. They, like their white neighbors, are entitled to have their voices heard.”

The ruling was a victory for the Spring Valley chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People the NAAACP, which sued the district in 2017, and a setback for the nine-person school board whose members are mostly Orthodox Jewish men.

Lawyers for the district, who did not immediately comment on the ruling, argued that race had nothing to do with the success of Orthodox candidates. They attributed the results to turnout by voters who shared their vision for low property taxes and generous public services for private school students. Nearly all of the Jewish students in the Rockland County towns served by the district attend yeshivas; black and Hispanic families, whose children attend public schools, said budget cutbacks had crippled the school system.

“This is not to say that the white bloc voters harbor conscious racial animus,” Judge Seibel wrote of her ruling. “But if we assume that the white ‘private school community’ votes as it does to reduce taxes, it would deny reality to pretend that its members were unaware that the students to be negatively affected by their votes are overwhelmingly children of color.”

On Erev Yom Tov he issued a fatwa that all those over 60 should stay home; forgetting that he himself is over 60, opened the big Satmar Shul to all ... after "he convinced the President of the USA to open the shuls."

In a fiery speech on the night of Shevuois, with the entire shul packed with no one wearing masks and no social distancing, the holy rebbe, told his sheeple to "daven 3x's a day with a minyan and to go daily to the mikvah."
Then he came up with which he believes is the cure for Covid-19 ...
Women should stop wearing makeup ....

What's interesting is that by and large its the men that are dying and not the women.....but the holy rabbi doesn't want the facts to get in the way ..

I hope when the cure gets publicised .... 
shiksas will adhere to this new novel cure too, to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

I am convinced that when the shiksas start looking like dogs the virus will stop dead in its tracks.

The victory by the the Orthodox and right-wing pro-Israel groups in the recent 38th World Zionist Congress election says volumes about the state of the Jewish people in America.

The divide between the Orthodox and the other denominations has grown.

The contrast is even more stark when looking at the support of President Trump. Over 80% of the Orthodox voted for him in 2016 and I believe that number will go up in the 2020 election.

The Orthodox and right-wing bloc received 62,000 votes in the WZO election (Orthodox Israel Coalition 21,698 votes, Eretz HaKodesh 20,023 votes, ZOA 10,313 votes, American Forum for Israel-Lieberman’s party 8,132 votes, Shas Olami 2,046 votes).

The Reform, Conservative, and left-wing groups received 54,098 votes (Reform Movement 31,500 votes, Merkaz-Conservative 14,666 votes, Hatikvah-J Street 7,932 votes). 

In 2015 the Reform ticket alone got 38% of the vote. This time they got only 25% of the vote. Similarly, the Conservatives got 17% of the vote in 2015 but only 10% this time.

This election sent shock waves through the Non-Orthodox camp.

Rabbi Norman Lamm, former Yeshiva U president, dies at 92

Rabbi Norman Lamm, noted Modern Orthodox rabbi, author and communal leader, passed away Sunday at the age of 92. 

The president emeritus of Yeshiva University had just lost his wife to COVID-19 a month earlier. 

Rabbi Lamm was the third President of Yeshiva University, serving from 1976 until 2013, and is credited with helping to save it from falling into bankruptcy. 

Rabbi Lamm got his rabbinical ordination from Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik at Yeshiva University's rabbinical school, the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, in 1951. 

In 1952, he was appointed rabbi of New York's Congregation Beth Israel, where he served for six years before becoming assistant rabbi at the Jewish Center on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in 1958. 

In 1959, he was promoted to the Jewish Center's rabbi, a position he held until 1976.

IKEA Opens in Beit Shemesh ....and the Haftorah of Parshas Naso

in a little town in Beit Shemesh called Eshtaol ....

the town Eshtaol is near the city of Zorah......

The haftorah of Parshas Naso talks about Shimshon who lived in Beit Shemesh. In fact, Shimshon and his father Monoach are buried here in Beit Shemesh!

When Shimshon was born, Hashem blessed him .....

But where? In which city?

Read the very last two lines of the haftorah!

Swedish furniture and interior design giant IKEA opened its fifth store in Israel in the town of Eshtaol near Beit Shemesh, daily financial newspaper Globes reported on Sunday.

IKEA already operates stores in Netanya, Rishon Lezion, Kiryat Ata (near Haifa), and Be'er Sheva. A space reserved for kitchens has been installed at the Tel Aviv port.

The company has invested NIS 390 million (USD110 million) in the new establishment, which opened despite allegedly committing numerous construction violations.

The Jerusalem District Appeal Committee last week dismissed claims about construction-related offenses since the opening of the branch would create hundreds of jobs, crucial at the time when Israel's unemployment is the highest in history due to the coronavirus crisis.

The new IKEA covers more than 25,000 square meters, with 39 rooms displaying 8,000 products on sale. The new store has 380 employees, including management, customer service, cashiers, logistics, and warehouse staff, along with catering staff.

The outdoor parking lot has nearly 900 parking spaces.

This upstate New York resort’s lake, bowling alleys and cabins were the setting for Mrs. Maisel’s Catskills summer retreat.

Now it can be yours for a mere $6 million.

The Scott’s Family Resort in Deposit, which has been operating for 150 years, is on the market. The owners had announced in a January Facebook post that they were forced to close “due to circumstances beyond our control.”

The resort had become too expensive to keep up, according to The Journal News website lohud.com, but the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to operate this summer.

“This whole coronavirus thing has brought everything to a screeching halt,” Patty Scott Holdrege, a daughter of the current owners, told llohud. “I’m sad – this is all I’ve ever done.”

The resort had been in operation since 1869 but faced declining business in recent years. The property was put up for sale in 2018 but managed to stave off closure after the episodes of the “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” aired.

The creators of the Emmy-winning Amazon Prime comedy chose the Scott’s Family resort for its buildings, which had remained relatively unchanged in its decor since the 1940s and ’50s. It was the perfect setting for the show’s second season, when Midge Maisel’s family relocates to the mountains for some fresh air and family fun.

The episodes evoked an era in which thousands of Jewish New Yorkers would stream out of the city for weeks every summer, many to resorts in the Catskills Mountains where all of the patrons were Jewish. The resort area, nicknamed the Borscht Belt for the beet soup eaten by Russian Jews, gave rise to comedians like Jerry Lewis and were immortalized in the 1987 movie “Dirty Dancing.”

"Don't Tell Ima", a book about domestic abuse in the Jewish family

The at-first-glance seemingly innocuous title of this book by Lisa Barness (Don't Tell Ima, Jewishselfpublishing) gave me the impression that it is about child rearing, perhaps about how to gain children's trust so they are not afraid to admit the truth and about teaching them to be honest.  After all, the phrase is most often used by children when asking other siblings not to "tell on" them to mother after they do something they shouldn't.

The dilemmas children face in this regard are real - sometimes a child's not revealing the name of whoever did something wrong can lead to continued criminality, sometimes it can mean the child will be punished for someone else's misdemeanors, and there are times where it is a noble thing to do – except that none of the above is the subject of this book and the writer is using a fictitious name.

This book is a story in which the children involved could have been maimed for life.

That is because, unfortunately, the person instructing them not to tell Ima is an adult – at least legally – and is the children's narcissistic, control freak, two-timing and dissembling, "model" of a religious father. Trust, honesty, possible negative consequences on their lives never even enter his mind.

Satmar Bnei Brak Erupts in Civil War As Police Are Called On Shevuois

The Ahronim in Bnei Brak aren't only fighting against the Zionists, they fight against themselves as well...

As we reported previously, The Ahronim in Bnei Brak, who follow R' Aron Teitelbaum are in a civil war ... which is threatening the entire Satmar Bnei Brak Kehilah...

This Friday, when frum Jews around the world were busy celebrating "Kabalos Ha"torah", and talking about "achdus" the Bnei Brak Ahroinim were beating the hell out of each other....

I'm not even sure what happened exactly, it seems someone from Harav Meizel's (the rav of Satmar Bnei Brak) opposition ran to the Aron Koidish to make sure that his own people would get the "kibudim" which led to a fist fight during Shachris ... 
I guess it happened before "akdomois!" 

Police were called and two of the mispallilim were arrested.
 I don't know exactly what they serve in Israeli jails on Shevuois but my guess is that this year they weren't going to get to eat cheese kreplich! ....
