Glikl of Hamlin A 350-year-old Memoir Offers A Glimpse How Europe’s Jews Coped With A 17th-century Plague?

More than 350 years ago, a plague took a deadly toll on Hamburg, Germany. As the High Holidays approached, fear and panic set in and many of the city’s Jewish families fled.

Among them were Glikl and Hayyim Hamel, successful Jewish merchants who left with their three young children, including an 8-week-old daughter. En route to Hayyim’s parents, they spent time with relatives in Hanover, where some locals came to suspect their oldest daughter, 4-year-old Tsipor, was infected. Despite their assurances that she wasn’t ill, Glikl and Hayyim were forced to banish Tsipor and her caregivers to another town and were only allowed to visit from a distance.
“I will let any good father or mother judge for themselves how we felt,” Glikl would later write in her memoir. “My husband, of blessed memory, stood in a corner, weeping and pleading, while I stood in a corner.”

The Met mislabels Tefillin as 6th-century Egyptian amulet

Tefillin But Not those REFERRED in Article
Now the bastards want to say that tfillin is an "Egyptian Amulet" .... they have been asked to label it correctly for over a year ... but the well fed bureaucrats sipping tea in their leather chairs don't care about Jews ... even though most of the MET donations are supported by Jewish money .... just walk thru the halls of the museum and you will see practically all the donors are Jewish ...

The first time the Metropolitan Museum of Art tweeted a picture that appeared unmistakably to Jewish followers to be a ritual object used in Jewish prayer with the label “amulet,” a single follower responded with a correction.

“That is not an Amulet it is a Jewish tefillin,” wrote an account from a New York City rug gallery.

The object, which the Met says it acquired in 1962, is listed as part of the museum’s Islamic Art Department as a sixth-century amulet from Egypt. It is dated at A.D. 500–1000.

But a photo of the piece in the collection looks unmistakably like one piece of tefillin, the leather boxes and straps used in prayer by observant Jews. A shin, the Hebrew letter on the portion of tefillin that goes on the head, can be seen in the picture.

That was in November 2019. The second, third, fourth and fifth times the Islamic art collection shared the image, no one responded at all.

But over the weekend the image became the subject of an explosion of interest on Twitter after multiple accounts with many Jewish followers picked up on the item in the museum’s holdings and requested corrections.

One of the first to post it, a Jewish genealogist named Caitlin Hollander, offered a correction and tagged people who might be able to work with the Met to revise the museum’s description.

Other people who shared the image were less constructive in their criticism. And after the account @StopAntiSemites amplified the issue, criticism of the labeling included charges that the museum’s categorization was offensive to Jews.

The museum, which is currently closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, did not respond publicly over the weekend.

But Raphael Magarik, a English professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago whose studies have included the understanding of tefillin by non-Jews, posted a thread Sunday explaining that while the object pictured is likely mislabeled, there are historical arguments for the label.
“There’s no reason not to call tefillin an amulet,” Magarik wrote. “Lexically, the Greek term now commonly used to refer to them (‘phylactery’) originally meant just that, and had a long history of usage in that sense before referring to the specific Jewish items.”

He added that while tefillin have been invoked in anti-Semitic discourse in the past, the Met’s labeling more likely reflects how museums catalog objects.

"If There is a Second Holocaust, the Jewish Democrats Will Be to Blame" .. Laura Loomer

I had the honor of having a lovely conversation with Laura Loomer, a proud Jewish American woman who is running for the congressional seat in Florida’s 21st district.

At twenty-seven years old, she has become a prominent activist who hasn’t let her age nor the constant censorship deter her. Laura bravely advocates for Jewish values, which is why she is running for Congress.

She is an educated woman who graduated from Barry University with a degree in broadcast journalism. This election will be the first time in American history in which two Jewish women will run against each other

Laura seeks office as a Republican not just because she supports several of Trump’s policies aimed at combating anti-Semitic narratives, particularly on college campuses, but because she knows the Jewish American community needs her.

She understands that it is imperative to “boycott big tech because they are the major problem in the current rise of antisemitism.”
“I want Jewish Americans to be a protected class. In the United States hate crime laws… they list ‘Jewish,’ as a race. Elected officials will be held accountable. I will also call out the systemic Jew Hatred that has become a major issue.”

Loomer says “It’s time for Jews to wake up!”
She holds the conviction that the Democratic Party is the demise of American Jewry. Many of our Democratic Party leaders stand firmly against the Jewish community and the Jewish nation state, Israel. Far too few are condemning them.

More and More Jews Going and Davening on the "Har Ha'Bayis"

Most of my readers know my opinion on going up to Har Ha'bayis.....

A Frum Jew that has a Rav that says it's ok ... should absolutely go up ....and there are plenty of serious rabbanim, talmeidei chachamim, that allow it ... the Rambam went up and in fact he wrote a letter to his family on the day he stood on Har Habayis.. Another Rishon, the Meeri also wrote that one can go up to the Har Habayis... and the gemarrah itself records that Rebbe Akiva went up to the Har Habayis after the churban. ...
Why give sovereignty of this holy place to the arabs?
The UN ruled and the Obama/Biden administration abstained at that vote, that the Kotel doesn't belong to the Jewish people...
we must actively show that the Kotel and the Har Habyis belong to us and we are not relinquishing it to some murderers.
For those who are worried about "tumah" ... I am more concerned that there is a "tumedike" mosque on its site.. every single day, every second of the day.....
Of course we cannot remove it now, but we shouldn't remove frum Jews that want to pay homage to our holy mountain either..

Tomorrow, Tuesday a few hundred heimishe and yeshivisha families will quietly go up to the Har Habyis with the blessings of many rabbanim.....

If you feel you shouldn't go then stay home, don't musser those who have a heter from their Rav...
As we all know that there are frum chassidim today that say that you are not allowed to go to the Kotel.....let them daven on Rodney Street..
Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount, once a rare sight, has become commonplace, with the number of Jews visiting the holy site surging by several hundred percent in recent years.
Data on the annual number of Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount shows a consistent upward trend.

Chabad Lady Serves As A "sandik" by a Bris

The Rama rules in the Shulchan Aruch that a woman should preferably not serve as sandek at the bris (circumcision) of a baby if a man is available, due to it’s being considered immodest.

In most cases this is not a practical question, as a quorum of at least ten men is present at most bris ceremonies. However the advent of coronavirus has led to unusual situations arising which call for unconventional solutions.

Mendy and Rivky Zaklas serve as Chabad shluchim (emissaries to the Jewish community) in the tiny Russian town of Bryansk. The Haredim10 site reports that Rivky Zaklas tries to call everyone on her contacts list on their birthday and wish them a happy birthday. A couple of months ago she called a young woman who had visited the Bryansk community a year or so beforehand but had never returned. When she called, the young woman told her that she is pregnant and would soon give birth to a baby boy.
Rivky offered to be available to help in whatever way she might need, especially in assisting preparations for the baby boy’s bris. This week the  woman called Rivky stating she had given birth to the baby and would like to make a bris for him. Her only stipulation was that because of the contagious nature of COVID-19, she wanted it to be very small with the only people present being the mohel Rabbi Zalkas and his wife Rivky.
This past Friday the bris took place and because Rabbi Zalkas was the mohel, and the father of the baby is not Jewish, Rivky Zalkas was appointed to be the sandek!
There are many new halachos being practised due to coronavirus such as porch minyanim and zoom brachos and condolence visits but a Chabad woman acting as sandek would have been unthinkable until now!
The story also underlines the power of one phone call. It is entirely possible that a young lady married to a gentile would not have considered circumcising her baby. Maybe she did not even know about the mitzvah. Rivky Zalkas simply called her up to say happy birthday and this led to one more Jewish child entering the covenant of Avraham.

"It's a Mitzvah to Hate These Rabbis" ... Yossie Mizrachi

So this "Holocaust Denier," the criminally insane vicious snake, says it's a "mitzvah to hate" these rabbis because they disagree with him.. ...and he posts a partial list ...
I don't even know many of those rabbis he lists,
but he got himself a sidekick who is even more vicious and sicker than him, a guy who calls himself "Rabbi Yaron Reuven" who says it's all right to "execute them."

In a July 15 video on UTube, he barked against Lord Rabbi Sacks, Rabbi Efrem Goldberg insisting that they are evil and heretics. This bon-fide lunatic has a special place in hell for Dr. Rabbi Slifkin, and declares that those who challenge his lectures deserve execution -

Back to Mizrachi.....my readers should know that not only is he human garbage, but a sick sexual pervert to boot.
  • He compares “non-virgin women” to an opened bottle of coke. What Rabbi speaks this way?
  •  He says with cockiness that women that were not religious deliberately posed naked in front of the Nazi cameras just minutes before they were gassed ...GEVALD, could even the devil himself come up with such a twisted evil obscenity ?
Covid-19 has brought out these dangerous lunatics from their caves ...

Rabbi Daniel Green Prohibits Wearing a Mask on Shabbos Where There Is no Eirav

I don't know who this guy is, but he seems to be a Talmud Chachim, but that doesn't rule out that he is not only crazy but dangerous...

In his blog he posts a very lengthy pilpul why one is prohibited to wear a mask on Shabbos where there is no Eirav and says that if you are afraid of the virus then "you should sit home."

He also mocks the wearing of the mask anytime and anywhere, and says that wearing the masks have absolutely no effect on the virus, and it was instituted by the government for the sole purpose of scaring the masses.

I am not going to go into his lengthy flawed reasoning on so many levels ... (you can see it for yourself as I provided a link.)
Suffice it say that he first tries to compare it to a "purim mask" that he says cannot be worn on shabbos in a place with no eiruv, and says that this mask is far worse halachically since the "purim mask" covers the entire face while this covers only the mouth and nose .
and adds that one shouldn't be scaring Jews anyway..
