How is this even possible?? מותר להסתכל בתכשיטין שעליה או בפריעת ראשה You can look at her jewlry on her chest and you can stare at her hair but cannot look at her face! Makes no sense and is impossible to do!~

There is obviously some other reason why he is covering his face. If it were for tznius reasons then all the other men there would be doing so too.
I'm actually surprised that women are even allowed in the room.

Maybe he's just so ugly and they don't want the Kallah to run away
I'm sure you saw the end of the gemara where it says explicitly it is forbidden to look at a kallah
