AOC says she might quit politics as Dems pin losses on progressives saying defund the police was a disaster

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blamed 'Republican narratives' for tearing Democrats apart as she revealed over the weekend she considered not running for reelection due to in-house fighting between the progressive and establishment arms of the Party.

When asked by The New York Times if she would consider running for the Senate if Joe Biden's administration ended up being too 'hostile' toward progressive causes, Ocasio-Cortez said, 'I genuinely don't know. I don't even know if I want to be in politics.'

'You know, for real, in the first six months of my term, I didn't even know if I was going to run for re-election this year,' she added.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was confident going into Tuesday's election that the Democrat-controlled lower chamber would be able to pick up a dozen more seats to widen their majority.

Instead, Republicans were able to close the gap by so far gaining a net 8 seats, including beating incumbent Democrats and flipping several blue districts red. Although they still hold a minority, the margin is much slimmer, creating a more powerful GOP caucus in the House.

'Republicans levied very effective rhetorical attacks against our party,' Ocasio-Cortez told CNN's Jake Tapper during an interview on 'State of the Union' Sunday morning.

Many establishment Democrats blamed progressive lawmakers for this loss, mainly Ocasio-Cortez and her 'squad,' which includes Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan; Ilhan Omar of Minnesota; and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

Trump will stand by Israel until he leaves office

The Trump administration will continue to promote pro-Israel policies for as long as President Trump remains in office, a senior administration official said Monday morning.

According to a report by Kan Monday, the administration official said the White House would continue to work “with Israel and on Israel’s behalf” until President Trump leaves office.

“We were elected for four years and we intend to take advantage of that time until the very last moment. And we came here to work.”

“We have more than a few things to do with Israel and on Israel’s behalf, and we will continue to act.”

The comments come a day after the Trump administration’s envoy for Iran, Elliott Abrams, arrived in Israel and met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and National Security adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat to discuss plans for a string of new sanctions on Iran.

Abrams is also expected to meet with Alternate Prime Minister and Defense Minister Benny Gantz and other senior Israeli officials.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to visit Israel next week.

Ancient juglet containing gold coins unearthed in Yerushalyim

A juglet (a small pottery jar) containing four pure gold coins dating from more than a thousand years ago (the Early Islamic period), was unearthed during archaeological excavations conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), as part of the Jewish Quarter Development Corporation’s plan to build an elevator and make the Western Wall Plaza accessible to visitors coming from the Quarter.

The juglet was found by Israel Antiquities Authority inspector Yevgenia Kapil during preliminary digging at the site last month. Some weeks later, as excavation director David Gellman was examining the finds, he emptied the contents of the juglet.

“To my great surprise,” says Gellman, “along with the soil , four shiny gold coins fell into my hand. This is the first time in my career as an archaeologist that I have discovered gold, and it is tremendously exciting.”

According to Israel Antiquities Authority’s coin expert, Dr. Robert Kool, “The coins were in excellent preservation and were immediately identifiable even without cleaning. The coins date from a relatively brief period, from the late 940s to the 970s CE."

NYC to begin counting mail-in ballots tomorrow with several races at stake

New York City is set to begin counting its more than half a million mail-in ballots Monday — votes that could swing several local races.

While the deadline for the state’s local boards of election to receive absentee ballots is Tuesday, the city will at least get a jump on the ones it has so far.

As of Friday, the number of mail-in votes received by each borough was: 199,352 in Manhattan; 161,762 in Queens; 106,987 in Brooklyn; 52,049 in The Bronx and 31,351 in Staten Island.

The total is about half the 1.1 million absentee ballots requested by residents.

Local races yet to be called because of the ongoing ballot-counting include:

11th Congressional District

Republican Nicole Malliotakis looks set to defeat incumbent Dem US Rep. Max Rose in the 11th Congressional District covering Staten Island and southern Brooklyn.

The particularly bitter, multimillion-dollar race is virtually over, with Rose appearing to be too far behind to catch up to his foe even with the number of mail-in ballots yet to be counted. Malliotakis has already claimed victory, but Rose has non conceded.

“As a soldier who fought for our democracy, I believe every vote should be counted,” he told reporters on election night.

PA Demands Relocation Of US Embassy, Restoration Of US Aid

President Abbas and other senior officials, have said they will make a number of demands of USA President-elect Joe Biden, according to Hebrew news site Yisrael Hayom.

The Palestinians intend to request that peace negotiations restart from where Obama left off in 2016, as well as demanding that the US embassy be relocated back to Tel Aviv. Joe Biden specifically stated during his campaign that he would not be relocating the embassy to Tel Aviv but the Palestinians hope to bring international pressure to prevail on Biden regarding the two-state solution which he supports which would enable them to declare their capital in Jerusalem.

The Palestinians also intend to reopen their diplomatic mission in Washington and to request renewed American aid to UNRWA, the United Nations organization which ostensibly deals with refugees worldwide but in reality only provides relief for indigenous Palestinians in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza strip. The Palestinians will also request that the foreign aid, which was cut off by the Trump administration since they refused to stop the “pay for slay” payments to terrorists families, be restored to them.

Alex Trebek, Long-Running ‘Jeopardy!’ Host, Dies at 80

Alex Trebek, who presided over the beloved quiz show “Jeopardy!” for more than 30 years with dapper charm and a touch of school-master strictness, died Sunday. He was 80.

Trebek, who announced in 2019 that he had advanced pancreatic cancer, died at his California home, surrounded by family and friends, “Jeopardy!” studio Sony said.

The Canadian-born host, who made a point of informing fans about his health directly, spoke in a calm, even tone as he revealed his illness and hope for a cure in a video posted March 6, 2019.

In the video, Trebek said he was joining the 50,000 other Americans who receive such a diagnosis each year and that he recognized that the prognosis was not encouraging.

But Trebek said he intended to fight it and keep working, even joking that he needed to beat the disease because his “Jeopardy!” contract ran for three more years. Less than a week later, he opened the show with a message acknowledging the outpouring of kind words and prayers he’d received.

“Thanks to the — believe it or not — hundreds of thousands of people who have sent in tweets, texts, emails, cards and letters wishing me well,” Trebek said. “I’m a lucky guy.”

“Jeopardy!” bills itself as “America’s favorite quiz show” and captivated the public with a unique format in which contestants were told the answers and had to provide the questions on a variety of subjects, including movies, politics, history and popular culture.

They would answer by saying “What is … ?” or “Who is …. ?”
