Open Letter To the Esteemed Rabbis of the Agudath Israel of America Organization

 I am writing to you as a Jewish mother, grandmother and educator, born and raised in America, and now living on our beloved soil, Eretz Yisrael.

You recently published a "Statement of Agudath Israel of America on Haredi Principles." When I read your statement, I was shaken to the core. This statement both profoundly saddens me and frightens me.

Your statement saddens me because, as a G-d-fearing Torah Jew, it is my belief that we must conduct ourselves in a way that would bring Nachat Ruach to our Creator. Of course, this means keeping the Mitzvoth of the Torah. Central to these commandments is VeAhavta L'Rayecha Kamocha, love your fellow as you love yourself. As Hillel HaZaken stated, "This is Torah. The rest is commentary."

Trump caravans snarl traffic on Garden State Parkway

Two caravans of President Trump supporters wreaked havoc on the Garden State Parkway and the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge on Sunday — creating traffic jams by stopping their cars and exiting the vehicles on the major motorways.

In New Jersey, the demonstrators in cars, SUVs and pickup trucks honked their horns and waved pro-Trump flags, according to video posted to Twitter by Yeshiva World News.

“Yeah — woo!” a man filming the video can be heard saying. “We shut it down, baby. We shut it down.”

The caravan was at a complete standstill, with some people standing atop their cars, the video shows.

A similar scene played out in New York on the bridge connecting Nyack and Tarrytown.

Video shot by FNTV shows Trump supporters either idling in their cars or standing on the bridge to chants of “USA, USA, USA.”

New York state Sen. David Carlucci, whose district covers Nyack, slammed the caravan and called on state police to charge those involved.

“What was seen in New York was aggressive, dangerous, and reckless behavior by some Trump supporters,” Carlucci said in a statement posted to Twitter.

Belgian Gov’t Allows Only 4 People at A Wedding

 Due to Belgium’s surging coronavirus infection rate and its current status as the worst-hit country in the European Union, the government decided over the weekend to allow only four people at gatherings, including in shuls and at weddings.

Leaders of the frum community have been attempting to influence the government to increase the number of participants to ten but to no avail as of yet, B’Chadrei Chareidim reported.

An askan in Antwerp told B’Chadrei that the problem is that the government categorizes shuls with churches and mosques. Four people are sufficient for churches and mosques: the priest or muezzin, a photographer and two technicians who take care of the live broadcast.

The askan said that the new regulation is also wreaking havoc on families who have weddings planned.

“The comparison between Jews and other religions is the problem because as much as we explain the difference, they simply don’t understand what the problem is with davening alone or getting married via Zoom,” the askan said. “They tell us to delay weddings which isn’t always possible. We don’t know what will be.”

First vaccine recipient: I feel great

Segev Harel, the first volunteer to receive the Israeli-developed coronavirus vaccine, stated that he "feels great" after receiving the vaccine at Sheba hospital Sunday.

"I feel great, thanks for the interest, two hours have passed and I do not feel any special symptoms, I feel great, and I'm joking with the medical staff here," Harel said.

Harel added, "I really want to thank all the doctors and nurses who have been with me since this morning and give me the most wonderful feeling possible. It's really great fun."

On the risk he took in being the first person to test a new medicine, Harel said, "Like anything in life that has a risk, you have to look at the profit, I was a soldier and I know what it is to take a risk. The profit that can come out of here today is hope for an Israeli vaccine and I think it's worth it."

Harel later stated that he agreed to volunteer for the vaccine also due to the fact that he is 26 years old, healthy and single.
