Herzl’s Grandparents Exhumed in Belgrade for Final Journey to Jerusalem

The remains of Shimon and Rivka Herzl, grandparents of Zionist visionary Theodor Herzl, were exhumed from the historic Jewish cemetery in Zemun, Belgrade, ahead of their transfer to Israel.

They will be laid to rest beside their grandson on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem during a state ceremony on August 5—exactly 77 years after Herzl’s own remains were brought from Vienna and reburied in the Jewish state he had envisioned. President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are expected to attend.

Herzl’s grandfather was deeply influenced by Rabbi Judah Alkalai, an early advocate for the Jewish people’s national return to the Land of Israel. Those ideas helped shape the family environment that preceded Herzl’s creation of modern political Zionism.

More than a century later, another chapter of the Herzl family is finally coming home.

That’s some stretch to say that secular Teddy picked up the hashkofa of a heiligeh Yid like Rav Alkalai ztl. DIN is hinting at it but fools like Georges Weisz have written it outright in books that Teddy was some kind of disciple kaviyochel

Israel really needs to stop the import of bodies for burial.

Not that it makes a difference, but your comment is an unmitigated lie!
The "Madagascar Proposal" was actually Hitler's initial plan to place the Jews there; this had nothing to do with Herzl, nor did it have anything to do with Herzl's grandparents; they were all dead by then.
