I'll admit I don't know the circumstances, but regardless, a bunch of Yeshiva Bochrim who learn Torah, surrounded an elderly man and beat the crap out of him! If one of those guys was my grandchild, I would have taken him out of Yeshiva and have had him enlist!
This is a Chillul Hashem!! Period!

Note the sickening part - they will only attack him from behind. As soon as he turns to confront them, they dart away. Pathetic cowards.
At least they have their tzitzis out.
It is a big avlah that's indeed sickening but DIN still has no credibility to hype a few smacks into "beating the crap" out of him
That's true.
what's the point to have them as soldiers?! army is not punishment. the army will teach them ahavas yisroel?! they can learn there that life has consequences - they will think twice before doing such things. but it will not teach them why not. that task was parent's or rabbonim's, and they left it out.
but you reveal your way of understanding the purpose of the army. honestly, i'm a bit disappointed.

Yes indeed! The army will teach them "Ahavas Yisrael" it is precisely in the army that they learn to care for others because they are depending on each other for survival!
They did not learn it from their rabbonim because the rabbonim would have no problem with them beating the crap out of a Chilonie. The parents are just like their children.
The army will teach them discipline. It will introduce the concept of tasks with a goal, antithetical to boys expected to spend the rest of their life turning pages in a yeshiva with no expectation of measured accomplishment. And it will teach them to respect and know the rest of Jewish society. No wonder The Gedolim(tm) are so opposed.
