Bingo Coming to Monsey

Construction work is moving forward for the next anchor tenant at Spring Valley Marketplace, as contractors recently assembled the facade on the building that will accommodate the area's first Bingo Wholesale....

When completed, Bingo will join Christmas Tree Shops, Bed Bath & Beyond, Michael's and Target at the 19-acre marketplace, which changed hands last year in a $59.3 million transaction.

What you need to know about Bingo:

1. Who

Bingo Wholesale is a partnership with Weiss and Osher Ad, a grocery chain with stores in Israel. The company opened its first U.S. store in Brooklyn in 2016, and added a 70,000-square-foot store in Lakewood, New Jersey, in late January 2019.

2. What

Promising "No tricks no shticks," the store has been referred to as the "Kosher Costco," selling mostly kosher products, especially fresh produce, meat and dairy. Its shelves also carry many of the national brands customers find elsewhere. It also stocks items typically found in discount department stores like Target and Walmart.
"Bingo serves not only the discerning kosher products customer but also a United Nations of customers who are looking for quality and value as well," said Burt Flickinger III, a New York-based supermarket analyst.
Shoppers can sign up for a free membership, which provides access to in-store coupons.
The east end of the sprawling strip shopping plaza off New Clarkstown Road, in the space that formerly held T.J. Maxx. Although Bingo's website and social media posts refer to the location as its Monsey store, the store will be in the portion of the village of Spring Valley that's located in the town of Clarkstown.

4. When

The company and marketplace's management have been mum about when Bingo will open, although the store's website and social media feeds say it's "coming soon." Flickinger expects the store to open in the weeks leading up to Passover, which begins April 8.

5. Why it's coming here

The store's imminent arrival in Rockland signals a recognition that customers are driving to Brooklyn to shop at Bingo's Borough Park location, Cherry Hill Gourmet and other kosher stores, Flickinger said. It's a natural extension of the success experienced by Evergreen Kosher Supermarket in Monsey, and dovetails with the overall growth of the kosher products market.
