R' Chaim Kanievsky is asked if people should evacuate Miami before Srorm

It seems that R' Chaim doesn't understand Yiddish .... looks like he understands Hebrew only!
At any rate, he answers with  one word .... answers that it is a "skana" to stay!

Reb chaim speaks a perfect Yiddish. It looks like the person who asked doesn't speak Yiddish the right way..

Why would anybody in their right mind, disturb Horav Kanievski with such a ridiculous question. I'm all for getting hadrocha from our Gedolim and all, but this? And to think that R' Chaim could have been learning during that time...

8:55, a matter of the safety of other Yidden is a very important thing, and it is certainly shayach to get HaRav Kanievsky shlit"a's advice.

Exactly. So please explain exactly what it was that the person asking the question needed to know.
"Respected Godol Hador Shlita, we are expecting 185 mile an hour winds and tremendous amounts of rain in our coastal neighborhood. Can you please stop learning for a few minutes {or otherwise helping needy people) to answer my question? So, um, should we evacuate or maybe just stay right in harm's way and who knows, Hashem Yishmor?"
Stop wasting Gedolim's valuable time with ridiculous questions.

AishKodesh 10:02PM,

His advice? When did he get smicha in meteorology?

6:54 AM, I see what you are saying, but it is always good to get a Gadol HaDor's opinion.

And Abe, we rely on Daas Torah not just with regards to Torah matters -- when someone absorbs Torah into them, it affects their knowledge of everything.

AishKodesh 11:02 AM,

Why is it always good to get a Gadol HaDor's opinion? Gedolei HaDor in the time of the Gemara thought the earth was flat, that the sun circled the earth and lice arose through spontaneous generation.
If they were wrong then, they could be wrong now especially when today they have little expertise in the meteorology.
You may rely on "Daas Torah", but this authority is of recent vintage, less than 200 years old. I and most Modern Orthodox Yidden don't rely on it. It is an artificial construction.
You might accuse me of the same construction, but Modern Orthodoxy imports science into its beliefs not vapid fundamentalism as you do.

DISCLAIMER: I am coming from a totally different place than Abe. I am not modern orthodox. I have learned by great Gedolim who were Talmidim of the previous generation. My angle is purely of not to disturb the Godol HaDor.
Of course someone who is steeped in Torah is the right person to be shoel eitzah by. The Torah encompasses EVERYTHING.

Abe, let science say what it wants, but in the end, scientists believe in "the big bang theory", and that certainly is total sheker. We will soon see who know the truth. We musn't be "have to see it to believe it" people. Othrwise, the logic of Avodah Zarah maes perfect sense....

Torah does indeed encompass everything, as Sweet Potato tempura said.

@Sweet Potato tempura, you seem to have a nice outlook :)

While I don't agree with your taste in food (sweet potato tempura), most definitely agree with your opinion on confidence in Gedolei Hador with regard to ANY matter.

AishKodesh 10:44AM,

Your Daas Torah and Avoda Zora both make perfect sense because you both use the same broken logic.

How about the fact the guy didn't even ask Reb the right question. Most of miami WAS NOT asked to evacuate. (A few places were). The issues of "flooding like Houston" "where people died" was not relevant. Florida is not the carribean islands.

Abe, not true. Hashem created the Torah with everything in it. ANd one who absorbs it and connects to Hashem will be able to better answer questions than those who do not. Avodah Zarah? Chas V'Shalom.
