The New York Times has been radio silent as one of its star journalists suggested that Trump supporters should be designated as "enemies of the state" amid what she described were ongoing "national security threats."

Times Justice Department reporter Katie Benner took to Twitter on Tuesday as the first hearing of the Democrat-led Jan. 6 select committee was underway. 

"Today's #January6thSelectCommittee underscores the America's current, essential natsec dilemma: Work to combat legitimate national security threats now entails calling a politician’s supporters enemies of the state," Benner wrote. 

Benner explained, "As Americans, we believe that state power should not be used to work against a political figure or a political party. But what happens if a politician seems to threaten the state? If the politician continues to do so out of office and his entire party supports that threat?"

The Times' DOJ reporter cast doubt that the Pelosi-appointed committee would resolve the "dilemma" since it remained "unresolved" following the Russia investigation and both impeachments of President Trump. 

"That leaves it up to voters, making even more essential free, fair access to the polls," Benner concluded. 

Benner, who was recently hired as an MSNBC contributor, sparked backlash on social media for her tweets targeting Trump supporters.

Hours later, Benner deleted the tweets, claiming they were "unclearly worded."

This past weekend, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd added another column to the myriad irrational and hysterical pieces about the “existential threat” climate change allegedly poses to human life.

As I do after almost every piece I read on the Internet, I read comments submitted by readers.

One provided me with an epiphany.

It was a comment submitted by New York Times reader “Sophia” of Bangor, Maine:

“I have one child, a daughter, who told me age 8 that she would never have a child because of global warming. She’s now 34 and has never changed her mind. So I will not experience a grandchild. For her wisdom, I am grateful. I would be heartsick if I did have a grandchild who would have to experience the onslaught of changing climate.”

It is hard to imagine greater proof than that comment of the power of mass media and of the left. That a normal woman would celebrate her daughter’s choice not to be a mother and not to make her a grandmother can only be described as deranged. No normal-thinking human being would think that way. Jews had children during the Holocaust and made sure to have children if they survived the Holocaust.

Does this deranged woman know how few people are dying due to weather-related incidents in the era of global warming?

Delta passengers outraged at airline serving Ben & Jerry's

 

Passengers on a Delta flight from New York to Tel Aviv on Wednesday were displeased when they discovered that the in-flight service included a less-than-sweet treat: Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

Ben & Jerry's recent announcement that it would stop selling its products beyond the Green Line caused international controversy and much concern in Israel, where the decision was seen as capitulation to the BDS movement.

Many of the passengers on Wednesday's flight handed the ice cream back to the flight attendants.

One of the passengers was former Likud MK Dr. Anat Berko, who was traveling with a relative.

"After the ice cream was served, a lot of people protested the serving of a food product whose producer boycotts Judea and Samaria. I protested, as well, and gave my ice cream back. At that stage, the Israeli flight attendants said they had told the airline that the ice cream was an inappropriate choice, but they still served it," Berko said.

The former MK said that a few upset passengers declared they would write to Delta to protest the airline's decision to serve Ben & Jerry's.

"Not only did I give my serving back, I also filmed the event, so the airline couldn't deny it had happened. Delta needs to explain itself and this astonishing decision," Berko said.

Berko added that despite the ice cream incident, the flight and the service had been excellent.

172 Olim Land in Ben Gurion Airport this Week Marking Spike in Aliyah

 172 Olim landed this week on four Nefesh B’Nefesh Aliyah Flights, in cooperation with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, The Jewish Agency for Israel, Keren Kayemeth Le’Israel, and JNF-USA.

These flights are arriving during a record-breaking summer of Aliyah, with an expected arrival of 2,000 Olim. This incredible spike comes as a result of the increase in Olim who applied for Aliyah during 2020. Over 14,000 Aliyah applications were opened last year, the highest recorded number of Aliyah applications the organization has experienced since its founding.

As of June 2021, over 1100 people have made Aliyah, with 2000 additional Olim expected over the summer months. Nefesh B’Nefesh is anticipating surpassing the total number of Olim who arrived in all of 2020 by September of this year. In addition, over 4300 Aliyah applications have been submitted in 2021, already exceeding the total number of applications submitted in 2019 (the year before the Covid-19 pandemic).

“With the many changes people have faced over the past year and a half, causing them to rethink their approach to family, community, and employment, Aliyah has become more attainable than ever before,” said Rabbi Yehoshua Fass, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Nefesh B’Nefesh. “We are seeing how these shifts, while fundamentally difficult, are enabling more and more people to consider Aliyah today. It is amazing to see how the increase in applications has had tangible results, showing that people are making the necessary decisions and putting their Aliyah at the forefront.”

The Olim on this week’s group flights were comprised of 172 individuals, the oldest of whom is 87 years old and the youngest being a 6-month-old girl. They hail from New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ontario and will be moving to Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Modiin, Kiryat Gat, Ra’anana, and Netanya. Among the Olim who arrived this week were 12 medical professionals including four physicians, in addition to several lawyers, accountants, engineers, and educators, all eager to join and contribute to the Israeli workforce.

Professors are apologizing for saying ‘male’ and ‘female.’ Students are policing teachers. This is what it looks like when activism takes over medicine.

During a recent endocrinology course at a top medical school in the University of California system, a professor stopped mid-lecture to apologize for something he’d said at the beginning of class.

“I don’t want you to think that I am in any way trying to imply anything, and if you can summon some generosity to forgive me, I would really appreciate it,” the physician says in a recording provided by a student in the class (whom I’ll call Lauren). “Again, I’m very sorry for that. It was certainly not my intention to offend anyone. The worst thing that I can do as a human being is be offensive.” 

His offense: using the term “pregnant women.” 

“I said ‘when a woman is pregnant,’ which implies that only women can get pregnant and I most sincerely apologize to all of you.”

It wasn’t the first time Lauren had heard an instructor apologize for using language that, to most Americans, would seem utterly inoffensive. Words like “male” and “female.”

Why would medical school professors apologize for referring to a patient’s biological sex? Because, Lauren explains, in the context of her medical school “acknowledging biological sex can be considered transphobic.”

When sex is acknowledged by her instructors, it’s sometimes portrayed as a social construct, not a biological reality, she says. In a lecture on transgender health, an instructor declared: “Biological sex, sexual orientation, and gender are all constructs. These are all constructs that we have created.” 

In other words, some of the country’s top medical students are being taught that humans are not, like other mammals, a species comprising two sexes. The notion of sex, they are learning, is just a man-made creation. 

The idea that sex is a social construct may be interesting debate fodder in an anthropology class. But in medicine, the material reality of sex really matters, in part because the refusal to acknowledge sex can have devastating effects on patient outcomes.

IDF Recovered 81 Of 98 Surfside Victims

 

Israel’s IDF National Rescue Unit recovered 81 of the 98 victims at the site of the collapsed Champlain Towers, The Palm Beach Post reported on Tuesday. The commander of the rescue unit, Lt. Col. Golan Vach, personally found 20 of the victims.

How did the unit accomplish this remarkable achievement? The Post reached out to Vach at his home in Beit Rimon in northern Israel to discover the unique knowledge the IDF team brought to the site.

Vach started at the beginning, saying that when his team arrived in Florida at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 27, the morning of the fourth day of rescue efforts, they weren’t scheduled to begin work until noon but nevertheless they went straight to the site of the disaster.

“It’s like a race where most of the runners began a few seconds ahead and you are trying to catch them,” he said.

Half of Vach’s team immediately began seeking out the relatives of the missing to gather information as the precise details provided by the family members are crucial to rescue efforts.

The other half of the team went to the rubble where they found rescue workers digging in spots where the search dogs were barking. Vach said that according to his vast experience, rescuers need a “much wider methodology to try to evaluate where exactly people were buried in the site.”

Three Thugs Rip Shtreimel from Chasid's head and screamed at with anti-Semitic slurs in the Catskills

 

Three men have been arrested and charged with a hate crime after they attacked a Jewish man in Fleishmanns, New York.

New York State Police said that the anti-Semitic assault occurred July 24, shortly before 11 a.m. A Jewish man walking home from synagogue along Main Street in Fleishmanns, a village in New York’s Catskill Mountains, was accosted by a man who got out of a pickup truck and stole the victim’s shtreimel off his head.

The suspect returned to the pickup truck. He and its two passengers shouted anti-Semitic slurs at the victim and then drove away.

The three suspects have been charged with grand larceny in the third degree as a hate crime.

nvestigators were able to locate the victim’s shtreimel. Made of real fur, shtreimels can cost thousands of dollars.

The suspects were identified by police as Johann Diamond, 21, of Grand Gorge, New York, Korey Bush, 25, of Ashland, New York, and Wesley Eignor, 24, of Denver, New York.

Diamond was arrested on July 25, and Bush and Eignor were arrested on July 26. All three were arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement regarding the hate crime.

"I'd like to commend the New York State Police on a prompt, successful investigation following a disturbing anti-Semitic hate crime that took place in Delaware County. It is unacceptable for a Jewish man walking from a synagogue on Sabbath to be singled out, have his shtreimel ripped from his head and be verbally attacked because of his religion,” said Cuomo.

"This is New York, one of the most diverse collection of people from around the globe, and we will continue to stand together, united in our commonalities, and call out these vile incidents of hate whenever they occur. We will use every tool at our disposable to weed this hatred out of our state and ensure that love will always win."

Asian mom attacked in subway by a Big Black Brute dies after brain surgery

 

The Brooklyn mom who tumbled down a flight of stairs during an attempted robbery at a Manhattan subway station earlier this month has died, police sources told The Post.

Than Htwe, 58, died Wednesday, one day after her family said on their GoFundMe page that she would not survive after undergoing brain surgery — and that they planned to donate her organs.

The page had raised more than $48,000 for the family before it was shut down this week.

“I just want to tell everyone who’s reading this to always cherish the moments you have with your mother,” her son, Kyaw Saw Hein, wrote on the fundraising site.

“Tell her ‘I love you’ or give her a hug and kiss because you never know what will happen,” he said. “Thank you for all the support.”

Htwe, of Brooklyn, was with her 22-year-old son on the way to a doctor’s appointment on July 17 when they were attacked from behind at the Broadway and Canal Q line station in Chinatown.

Their attacker — who remains on the loose — tried to grab Hein’s backpack as the pair climbed the stairs, and both he and his mom fell down the stairs as the brute ran off, police said. 

Htwe remained unconscious at the hospital and never recovered.

Uman: Special terminal for Hasidim In Israel & testing in Ukraine

 

Minister of Religions Matan Kahana and Minister of Health Nitzan Horowitz summarized the outline for the trips to Uman for Rosh Hashanah.

The outline that will be presented to the Corona Cabinet in the coming days has been formulated with broad agreement by Minister Kahana, in coordination with Breslov rabbis and activists and senior officials of the Ministry of Health. Minister Kahana will meet tomorrow with the Ukrainian ambassador to Israel and introduce him to the principles of the outline.

The ministers' guideline was that as long as Ukraine remains a green country, Hasidim would be allowed to travel to Uman, just like any trip to any other green country, according to the guidelines as they are today. The ministers stressed that there would be no discrimination among travelers abroad.

As part of the outline, it was decided to significantly reduce the number of special (charter) flights from Ben Gurion Airport to Ukraine. In addition, the Hasidim's flights will take off from Terminal 1 and the system of tests at Ben Gurion Airport will be reinforced in preparation for the Hasidim's return after Rosh Hashanah.

In addition, a system for tests will be set up in Kiev and Uman ahead of the return flight, under the responsibility of Breslov organizations. Each passenger will have to undergo three tests like any other traveler abroad. Unvaccinated and children under the age of 12 will be required to isolate for 14 days or for seven days with two negative tests.

Amrom Fromowitz from Monsey Killed in Airplane Crash in Ukraine With Two Other Bochrim

 

Horror unfolded on Wednesday morning, when word spread of an unthinkable tragedy which claimed the lives of three Yeshiva Bochrim.

 The three Bochrim, from Monsey, Williamsburg, and London, were part of a group of Bochrim from Mir Yerushalayim who were in Ukraine visiting Mekomos Hakedoshim. The Bochrim took a sightseeing plane ride in Western Ukraine on Wednesday afternoon, and for reasons still unknown, a horrific accident occurred when the plane went down in Prykarpattia, and crashed into a private house near the village of Sheparivtsi.

Sheparivtsi is near the border with Romania, Moldova, Slovakia and Hungary.

Misaskim in the United States were working with local authorities to ensure Kavod Hames.

The three Bochrim tragically killed in the plane crash were Amrom Fromowitz Z”L of Monsey, Hershy Weiss Z”L of London, and Lazer Brill Z”L of Williamsburg.

Additionally, local authorities are being extremely cooperative with Misaskim and are working on expediting their release from the crash scene to be able to be brought to Kevurah as fast as possible.

Eric Adams declares war on the "Little Socialist" AOC

 

Democratic mayoral candidate Eric Adams declared his opposition to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist “movement” — which includes defunding the police and shuttering prisons — during a fundraiser co-hosted by a Republican member of the City Council, The Post has learned.

A video recording of Adams’ speech shows him telling supporters that the battle he faced wasn’t with his political rivals in the Nov. 2 election, but with the Democratic Socialists of America.

“I’m no longer running against candidates. I’m running against a movement. All across the country, the DSA socialists are mobilizing to stop Eric Adams,” he said.

“They realize that if I’m successful, we’re going to start the process of regaining control of our cities.”

The remarks sparked cheers and applause from attendees at the Monday night event in Douglaston, Queens.

Although Adams — a former NYPD captain whose campaign hinges on restoring public safety — didn’t mention Ocasio-Cortez (D-The Bronx, Queens) by name, the DSA openly acknowledges her as its “foremost socialist superstar.”

A page on its website — which shows Ocasio-Cortez marching with a raised fist — also says she “inspired up to 10,000 people to join” the nonprofit organization.

Adams’ speech came less than two weeks after a news conference at which he said he wanted to reclaim the mantle of “being progressive” from Democrats who “hijacked” it but “do not have a track record of putting in place real progressive changes.”

On Monday, Adams — a former state senator and Brooklyn’s outgoing borough president — told donors that he wanted to transcend partisan politics and that he was seeking votes from New Yorkers regardless of party affiliation.

“We’re not going to let parties get in the way of this party called New York City,” he said.

Democratic megadonor Ed Buck guilty in ‘party and play’ drug deaths

Ed Buck, a prominent liberal activist who donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates, was convicted Tuesday of injecting men with methamphetamine in exchange for sex, causing two deaths.

A federal jury convicted Buck of two counts of meth distribution resulting in death as well as three other charges following deliberations that lasted for more than four hours following a two-week trial. The 66-year-old will face a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison at his sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.

The verdict was handed down four years to the day after 26-year-old Gemmel Moore was found dead of a drug overdose in Buck’s West Hollywood apartment. An investigation revealed that Buck had purchased a plane ticket for Moore, who was black, to fly from Texas to Los Angeles to “party and play” with the older white man.

“The party is the drugs, the play is the sex,” Assistant US Attorney Chelsea Norell told jurors in her opening statement. “If they didn’t party, he wasn’t interested.”

Moore’s family and activists had pushed for Buck’s arrest, charging that his wealth, political connections and his race precluded him from facing consequences. Despite the clamor, Buck was left free to pursue his fetish for another two years after Moore’s death.

“Today is bittersweet,” LaTisha Nixon, Moore’s mother, said after the verdict. “We got victory today.”

Chareidie MKs in Knesset Fighting Against Removing Rabbanute Hashgacha but they themselves won't eat from this hashgacha

 

 Crazy Israeli politics... when I made aliyah almost 4 years ago, all my friends told me that they eat only "Badatz" or "Beit Yoisef" but never anything that that has a Rabbanute Hechsher, because it is not at all reliable 

I subsequently found out that practically all mashgichim from the Rabbanute are Chareidim  are "erliche yiddin" ....and this business of bad mouthing Rabbaanute Hechsheirim is pure Loshon Hara, and being "moitzeh shem ra" 

Most "treif" scandles in the food industry in Israel, are not from the Rabbanute but from the Eida Hachreidis as we posted many times on this site. When the Rabbanute finds a product that they certified kosher and then  find out that there is a problem with the product, they immediately make a public announcement and recall the product. Not so with the Eida Hachreidis, they will cover up and only announce it when it gets out on social media. 

So the commentator in the above video finds it ironic that the frum MKs are all fighting for the Rabbanute Hashgacha, and fighting to keep the Reform hashgachas out, when they themselves would not touch any product even a glass of water that has a  Rabbanute Hechser! 

So he is questioning.... why is it ok for them not to trust the Rabbanute, but ok for the regular Joe Shmoe to eat from a Rabbanute Hechsher? 

Is it Kosher or not? 

One of the MK's questioned on the video says that the normal Israeli wants a "genuine Hechsher" like the Rabbanute, and not a "false hechsher" like the Reform Hashgacha, but he himself wouldn't drink a glass of water that has a Rabbanute Hechsher.

The MK comments that he chooses to use a "more chumre" hashgacha like the "badatz". 

So the commentator wants to know, "why is it ok for the MK to "choose" a Hashgacha but not ok for the regular Jew to "choose" which hashgacha he wants even if its reform...

Lesson learned!

Now, Im personally against having the "reform" having an hashgacha company in Israel,but when you spread rumors that the "Rabbanute Hechsher" which is an excellant hashgacha but doesn't follow all the "chumrois" , is no good  it will come back to bite your fat derrière.

There is a halachic debate whether placing a filter in a mikva, invalidates the entire mikva. Most modern poiskim do not allow a filter placed into a mikva. 

This is not the place to discuss the reasons, however, know, that  even the Zionist Rabbanute doesn't allow it! To keep the mikva clean they change the water on a daily basis or place a floating filter on the surface.

The Eida Hachreidis has their very own Torah and their very own Shulchan Aruch, and they permit placing a filter in the mikva, specifically in the Zupnik Mikva in Yerushalyim.

Well, one of their own, Rav Tuvia Shulzinger, sent off a very strong worded letter to the "tazaddikim" of the Eida Hachreidis warning them that most poiskim are against it ...

In India Grandparents Took "Tznees" to a New Level Having Their Granddaughter Beaten to Death & Hung After She Put on Jeans

 

A teenage girl in India was allegedly beaten to death and publicly hanged by male family members for wearing jeans.

The mother of Neha Paswan, 17, said her daughter’s grandfather and uncles attacked her with sticks in her own home following an argument about her clothes, according to the BBC.

The deadly beating happened last week in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, one of the nations least developed regions, according to the outlet.

“She had kept a day-long religious fast. In the evening, she put on a pair of jeans and a top and performed her rituals. When her grandparents objected to her attire, Neha retorted that jeans were made to be worn and that she would wear it,” Shakuntala Devi Paswan, told BBC Hindi.

When the argument turned violent and a gang beating left the girl unconscious, male relatives said they were calling a driver to take her to the hospital, according to the report.

“They wouldn’t let me accompany them so I alerted my relatives who went to the district hospital looking for her but couldn’t find her,” Shakuntala Devi reportedly said.

The next morning, the girl’s mother found Neha’s body hanging from a bridge over a river, according to the article.

Ten people are reportedly being investigated for murder and destruction of evidence, including the teen’s grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and the driver of the auto rickshaw that was supposedly taking her to be treated. Four of them have been arrested, the outlet said.

Shakuntala Devi reportedly said that her in-laws were pressuring Neha, an aspiring police officer, to abandon her studies in a local school, even as her father worked as a day laborer in Punjab to pay for the girl’s education.

The sickening case illustrates the violence that women and girls face at home in the patriarchal society, where misogynistic attacks are often sanctioned by family elders, the BBC said.

On average, 20 women are killed every day in India for bringing in insufficient dowries, according to the outlet.

Last month, footage emerged of a 20-year-old woman being beaten by her father and three male cousins for running away from an abusive husband in the nearby state of Madhya Pradesh, according to The Indian Express. 

A week before, two girls in the region were slapped, kicked, dragged by the hair and beaten with sticks by family members for talking to a male cousin on the phone, according to NDTV.

Police reportedly arrested seven people after the footage went viral, but video showed onlookers gawked at the public attack and failed to intervene.

In another viral June attack in the state of Gujarat, two teenage girls were beaten by a mob of at least 15 men for talking on their cell phones, according to India Today.

“It’s shocking that in the 21st Century, we are killing and assaulting girls for wearing jeans or talking on a mobile phone,” Gender activist Rolly Shivhare told the BBC.

“The government says girls are our priority and announces grand schemes for their welfare, but nothing happens on the ground,” Shivhare reportedly said.

“The shelter homes and crisis centres in India are few and most are so badly run that no-one would want to go live there. Our government needs to allocate more funds and improve their condition. 

“But the only long-term solution is to make girls more aware of their rights.”

A 2018 poll by the Thomson Reuters Foundation found that experts ranked India as the most dangerous UN member country for women and girls.

Brad Schneider "the Jewish Clown" in Congress Backs the Vicious Anti-Semitic Omar

 

Any goodwill that House Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) momentarily garnered by rebuking Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from those offended by her anti-Semitic June 7 tweet has been resoundingly undone, thanks to his latest gaffe.

More concerned with maintaining the facade of Democratic Party unity, Schneider—in the most obsequious of gestures—actually joined Omar and other progressives in issuing a letter to Secretary of State Blinken calling on the Biden administration to create the position of “Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Islamophobia.”

This was a case of Schneider’s rubbing salt in the wound, as the position whose creation he was embracing is modeled on the existing office of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, created in 2004.

Schneider—a practicing Jew, elected by Jews and from a congressional district with one of the highest concentrations of Jews in the state of Illinois—had appropriately labeled Omar’s vile comparison of the U.S. and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban as “offensive and misguided.” Omar called Schneider’s proper rebuke “Islamophobic.”

In his eagerness to welcome Omar back into the tent, however, Schneider unwittingly committed the same offense for which he had lambasted her. By equating the totally fraudulent offense of Islamophobia with the very real data as it pertains to anti-Semitism, he ignored the gross imbalance that exists between the two.

The most recent FBI statistics show that anti-Arab hate crimes in 2019 represented a mere 2.6 percent of the total. In contrast, anti-Jewish acts of hatred constituted 60 percent.

According to the report “Terrorism by the Numbers,” published by World101, on behalf of the Council on Foreign Relations, political Islamists acting under the dictates of Shariah law have been responsible for acts of terror that have left approximately 214,470 dead globally. This would include fatalities from the recent showering of more than 4,000 missiles at Israeli population centers in May by Islamist Iranian proxy Hamas.

A 2013 Pew survey of 11 Muslim-majority nations indicated that many citizens of those countries oppose Islamic extremism—from 75 percent on the high side to 38 percent on the low side. Given that the global Muslim population is estimated at 1.4 billion, would it be unreasonable for non-Muslims to be concerned with the percentage who, to varying degrees, support Islamist extremism?

Islamophobia is a label, insidiously designed by political Islamists to staunch the flow of dialogue related to this legitimate concern.

Omar’s plan is to create another organ of government empowered to police all conversation pointed at the anti-Western excesses of political Islam. The above staggering numbers are proof that the dialogue on political Islam needs to see more daylight, not less.

It is unfathomable for Schneider to consent to a plan that will allow Omar to handcuff him and others in the effort to provide that daylight. Censoring the right to raise uncomfortable questions is not the way to keep Americans, especially Jewish Americans, safe.

If Omar has her way and Schneider is ever again moved to call out her anti-Semitic epithets, it is she who will be placing handcuffs on him.

Governor Cuomo Signs Legislation Raising The Age Of Consent For Marriages To 18 but a child can be Younger to decide to “gender transition”

 

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed legislation (S.3086/A.3891) raising the age of consent to be married in New York State to 18. This new measure builds upon legislation eliminating child marriage that the Governor signed in 2017 by removing the ability for 17-year-olds to be married with parental and judicial consent.

“This administration fought hard to successfully end child marriage in New York and I’m proud to sign this legislation to strengthen our laws and further protect vulnerable children from exploitation,” Governor Cuomo said. “Children should be allowed to live their childhood and I thank the many legislators and advocates who worked diligently to advance this measure and further prevent forced marriages in this state.”

This legislation takes effect 30 days after becoming law and will apply to licenses issued after that date and marriages that had not been solemnized prior to that date.

Senator Julia Salazar said, “Regardless of maturity level, minors lack sufficient legal rights and autonomy that they need to protect them if they enter a marriage contract before becoming adults. The vast majority of minors who enter a marriage are teenage girls, and getting married before adulthood often has devastating consequences for them. I thank Governor Cuomo for signing this bill to finally prohibit child marriage without exceptions in New York, and commend the continued work of Unchained At Last in advocating to prohibit child marriage nationwide.”

Assembly Member Phil Ramos said, “The cruel and callous practice of child marriage has traumatized too many children to count. Nalia’s Law, which will raise the age of consent for marriage to 18 and prohibit marriage if either person is underage, is named after one brave survivor of forced child marriage who I was lucky enough to meet. With the passage of this crucial legislation, minors in New York will be further protected from this predatory practice, and we can prevent stories like Nalia’s from repeating themselves.”

Ben Gvir Jewish MK dragged off Knesset podium by Arab MK ...for calling Arab chair ‘terrorist’

 

Far-right MK Itamar Ben Gvir (Religious Zionism) was forcefully removed from the Knesset podium and ejected from the plenary hall Monday night after he called the Joint List MK Ahmad Tibi, who was chairing the session, a “terrorist.”

Ben Gvir, who took to the podium during a debate on coronavirus restrictions, began his address by saying, “With the permission of the Knesset speaker, Mr. minister, your excellency,” referring to the dignitaries in the hall but notably not to Tibi, who, as deputy Knesset speaker, was filling in at the time for speaker Mickey Levy.

Tibi, who heads the Ta’al faction in the predominantly Arab Israeli Joint List party, interrupted Ben Gvir and demanded to be addressed as “Mr. Deputy Speaker,” as is Knesset tradition.

Ben Gvir responded, “You are a terrorist, not a sir or a Mr. You should be in the Knesset in Syria, not here.”

Tibi then ordered the Knesset Guard to remove Ben Gvir from the podium and then the plenum, but the firebrand MK held on to the podium before being physically dragged from the hall. Levy, who arrived at Tibi’s side, appeared to back him up as Tibi repeatedly demanded that Ben Gvir be forcibly removed from the plenum.

The unrest in the hall continued for several minutes, as MKs from Likud argued with Tibi that he should have sought a more peaceful resolution, while Tibi said he had shown “the utmost restraint” toward an MK who had called him a terrorist.

In a statement following the incident, Ben Gvir refused to back down, saying, “Ahmad Tibi is a terrorist who gave security guards instructions contrary to his authority. This will not pass quietly.”

He continued, “There is no clause in the Knesset rules that requires me to say ‘Mr.’ to whoever is conducting the yeshiva, certainly not if he is a terrorist who was [Palestine Liberation Organization Yasser] Arafat’s adviser and should be in the Syrian parliament.”

Ben Gvir said he would request Levy remove Tibi as deputy Knesset speaker for abusing his authority.

Tibi also released a statement, slamming Ben Gvir for his slur and for refusing to leave the plenum, forcing the Knesset Guard to remove him.

“This is disgusting, violent and racist behavior that must be stopped,” Tibi said, adding that the incident would be brought before the yet-to-be-formed Knesset Ethics Committee.

Ben Gvir entered the Knesset in March’s election after merging his far-right Otzma Yehudit party with Religious Zionism, in a deal brokered by then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Otzma Yehudit is made up of followers of the late racist rabbi Meir Kahane, a former MK whose Kach party was banned from the Knesset in the 1980s — the first instance of a party being banned for racism. Otzma Yehudit supports encouraging emigration of non-Jews from Israel and expelling Palestinians and Israeli Arabs who refuse to declare loyalty to Israel and accept diminished status in an expanded Jewish state whose sovereignty extends throughout the West Bank.

Rav Moshe Shternbuch was addressing the kollel guys of "Kollel Zechor Avraham" run by R' Pinchas Samit, and urged them to learn "halacha le'maaseh" halacha's that are in the here and now.

He told them of a Din Torah about a Sholom Bayis issue, between a kollel guy and his wife.  

During the discussions between the Bais Din and the young couple it was discovered that the kollel guy wasn't at all knowledgeable in halacha  and specifically Hilchos Shabbos.

 The father of his wife wanted to renege on his promise of buying them a dira, since his condition to the shidduch was that his daughter was going to marry a "Talmud Chacham, " but he has since discovered that yes, he was the top kollel guy in Yeshivas Chevron, but was only great in "pilpul of sugyois" but was a total ignoramus in basic hilchas shabbas, and when he wanted to know a halacha on shabbos he turned to his educated wife for a psak halacha. What good is it to be the top bachir in Yeshivas Chevron and at the same time be a big "am haaretz"
