Two-Shekel Weight From First Beit Ha'Mikdash Discovered Near Kotel

An ancient limestone-made weight, dating to the Iron age – the First Temple period, was discovered in an archaeological excavation conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority in conjunction with the Western Wall Heritage Foundation beneath Wilson’s Arch.

Adjacent to the Western Wall of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The weight, corresponding to the known measurement unit of two shekalim, was retrieved during sifting of earthen fills by the City of David sifting project.

The excavation is nearing its completion, unearthing fascinating discoveries soon to be included in the tour of the Western Wall Tunnels.

Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation responded to the discovery, saying: “How exciting, in the month of Tishrei, whose symbol is the scales of justice, to find a souvenir from the First Temple period. Actually now, when coming to the Western Wall is so restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic, this finding strengthens the eternal connection between the Jewish nation, Jerusalem, and the Western Wall while offering us all encouragement.”

According to Dr. Barak Monnickendam-Givon and Tehillah Lieberman, directors of the excavation on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority: “The weight is dome-shaped with a flat base. On the top of the weight is an incised Egyptian symbol resembling a Greek gamma (γ), representing the abbreviated unit ‘shekel.’ Two incised lines indicate the double mass: two shekalim."

"One of the uses of the shekel weight system during the First Temple period was to collect an annual tax of half a shekel dedicated to the sacrifices and upkeep of the Temple."

"According to previous finds, the known weight of a single shekel is 11.5 grams, thus a double shekel should way 23 grams – exactly as this weight does. The accuracy of the weight attests to advanced technological skills as well as to the weight given to precise trade and commerce in ancient Jerusalem. Coins were not yet in use during this period, therefore accuracy of the weights played a significant role in business."

"Year-round and especially during the times of pilgrimage, the area at the foot of the Temple Mount was sure to be busy. Locals and pilgrims would have traded for sacrifices and offerings as well as for food, souvenirs and other commodities. A weight such as the one discovered would have been used to measure accurate amounts of products at the market.”

During previous archaeological excavations beneath Wilson’s Arch, directed by Dr, Joe Uziel, Tehillah Lieberman and Dr. Avi Solomon, several stone courses of the Western Wall were exposed, after being covered with earthen fills some 1800 years ago.

The renewed excavation continues the previous discoveries of the preceding dig. “The unique finding from the First Temple Period, discovered in a context dating several centuries later, to the Roman period, indicates that the area of the Western Wall encapsulates various remains from a wide range of periods reflecting the centrality of the area for many centuries” added Dr. Monnickendam-Givon and Lieberman.

Yonah Kohn Killed in Car Crash in Chicago

Tragedy stuck the Chicago community, as word spread of the tragic Petira of Yoni Kohn Z”L, a well know Baal Tzedakah and Baal Chesed.

According to news sources, a two car crash occurred around 12:00PM on Monday in northern Van Buren County, Michigan. Yoni Z”L was one of the victims. Two other adults from another vehicle lost their lives in the crash.

The crash happened around noon at the intersection of Baseline Road and 60th Street, east of South Haven.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Yoni Z”L, who was just 46-years-old, was a beloved father and husband and community member, whose Chesed and Tzedakah were far reaching – not just in Chicago. He was well-known in the nursing home and real estate industries.

He resided in Edison, NJ, and Lakewood prior to moving back to Chicago.

In addition to his countless acts of Chesed, Yoni owned a jet and was a pilot, and quietly flew hundreds of Niftarim to Kever Yisroel over the years. When he resided in Edison NJ, he was bothered that there was no Bikur Cholim house at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, so he single-handedly purchased a property across from the hospital, and built a beautiful facility for people to stay in.

Belzer Rebbe secretly treated for Covid ... his Condition "Serious"

Incredible ...... just Yesterday we heard that the Belzer Rebbe told his chassidim to act normal.... meaning no masks no social distancing ...

How irresponsible....telling his chassidim to ignore health regulations and not telling them that he is being secretly treated by Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital staff...for Covid .. and he is in serious condition...

***

Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital secretly provided medical treatment to the Belzer Rebbe at his home when he was in critical condition after being infected with coronavirus.

Haaretz reporter Aharon Rabinovich revealed that the treatment was given about two months ago, and was conducted by a doctor and other medical staff who were attached to the 72-year-old Rebbe on shifts around the clock.

The Rebbe's house was equipped with all the necessary medical equipment, and his room became a veritable intensive care unit. Hadassah CEO Prof. Zeev Rothstein and hospital Director Prof. Yoram Weiss were regularly involved in the treatment.

Last night, the leaders of the haredi-Lithuanian public, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky and Rabbi Gershon Edelstein ordered that the schools and Torah studies not be opened.

At first, the rabbis in the Lithuanian public ordered resumption of studies, but Interior Minister Aryeh Deri sought to freeze the directive and exhaust the proceedings in the government, hoping to reach an agreement that would allow the schools to open.

Kan 11 reported that senior haredi politicians are promoting an initiative - a closure in haredi cities, in parallel with opening Talmudei Torah and yeshivas.

Meanwhile, thousands of Toldos Aharon hassidim were documented praying on the eve of Simchat Torah. This is the largest anti-Zionist chassidus in Mea Shearim in Jerusalem. During the holiday, mass prayers and celebrations were held in the closed synagogue, and one thing was taken care of there - that no documentation of the event was released.

Five Shuls in Brooklyn Fined $15,000 ... Who Will Pay For that?

Bobov 45, Munkatch and Tosh are among the 5 shuls that received $15,000.00 fines for violating Covid-19 regulations..

So far the other 2 have not been named...

That's a total of $75,000.00

Where will this money come from?

Tomchei Shabbos is overwhelmed, people with large families have lost their income, widows and orphans are going hungry, yet these irresponsible shuls will be schnorring $75,000.00 to pay these fines...

Why are the gabbaim and rebbes not being held responsible?

People should take note of these "moisdos" and not contribute a penny to these irresponsible, lawless wiseguys...

We posted previously that the Bobover 45 Rebbe had covid and yet came to shul with this deadly virus ... this is a leader of thousands? How many of his older chassidim were in shul at the time who may have contracted the virus? .... how irresponsible was he? What was he thinking? Is this "tzidkiss"?

Now they will be schnorring from the unemployed to pay the $15,000.00 fine ...Tomchei shabbos, the widows and orphans will have to wait ..

Hundreds of Protesters gather outside home of Jacob Kornbluh after arrest of Heshy Tischler

The Chareidie communities unlike the modern orthodox have learned absolutely nothing from this epidemic . .... they continue to stick their thumbs in the eyes of regulations ....

I am not going into whether masks work or not ... or if social distancing works..... I will be the first to say "I don't know" but the laws are the laws and you guys are in galus making a huge chillul Hashem ...

This guy Kornbluh has every right to demand you put on your damn mask! Don't give me statistics ...put your mask on ... ....

Where are the Gedoilim? Where are our leaders? Why is this being allowed? Terrorising a fellow Jew?

All this 'speakers" crawling out from underneath every cave giving us "meaningful minutes" ... shut the hell up! There I said it ... Shut Up! Where are you now?

These guys being recorded with their "chizuk" messages are a bunch of cowards ..... not one came out talking about hundreds of Chareidim rioting and burning trash cans and masks, acting like BLM barbarians.....

***************

Hundreds of noisy protesters gathered outside the Brooklyn home of an Orthodox journalist on Sunday night in reaction to the arrest of activist Heshy Tischler for allegedly inciting an unruly mob to attack him.

“No Heshy, no peace,” the protesters chanted at Jacob Kornbluh, a reporter for Jewish Insider who was assaulted last Wednesday during Borough Park protests over coronavirus restrictions.

Another man shouted into a bullhorn and passing cars honked their horns in an apparent show of solidarity with the group who appeared to be pinning the blame for Tischler’s arrest on the victim, Kornbluh.

Tischler, who is also Orthodox, allegedly caused the attack on Kornbluh after some in the community were upset about the journalist’s reporting on the anti-lockdown protests.

The fan account of Tischler, who was arrested earlier Sunday night on charges of unlawful imprisonment and inciting a riot, promoted the protests outside Kornbluh’s home.

Police responded to the scene to protect the building as the crowd of about 100 gathered outside.

The "brave" Heshy Tischler Arrested ........ Now a "Cry Baby" ..."We made a deal... we made a deal"

You incited a riot against a fellow Jew and you want a deal? You are a walking Chillul Hashem ..... You kept screaming on your videos "Come get me" Come get me" "Come get me"

The deal was for Tischler to surrender Monday after Simchas Torah .... but he forget that by us Jews the night prior starts the day after ...
so with this Torah understanding they arrested him Sunday Night which al pi Torah is already Monday ...... and that was the deal..
also NYPD found out that his tuchis lekkers were planning to riot in the morning at the 66th pct.... איזהו חכם הרואה את הנולד

He will soon be out ..feister than ever... don't you worry..

Heshy Tischler was taken into NYPD custody, Sunday night, just an hour after Simchas Torah ended.

Tischler announced on Friday that he was informed that he would be arrested on Monday morning, and was told to turn himself in to the 66 Precinct.

Sources say that police feared that a large crowd would show up at the NYPD 66 Precinct on Monday when he would turn himself in, and decided to preempt that.

The New York City Police Department Warrant Squad say that they took Harold “Heshy” Tischler into custody. He will be charged with inciting to riot and unlawful imprisonment in connection with an assault of a journalist (Jacob Kornbluh) that took place on October 7, 2020 in Brooklyn.

Kornbluh was punched and kicked last Wednesday by an angry crowd who screamed at him, calling him “Nazi” and “Hitler,” amid protests over the the state’s new coronavirus restrictions.

Some of the protesters were upset about Kornbluh documenting of the Borough Park protests.

Tischler’s lawyer, Sara Shulevitz, said Sunday night that her client was the victim of a “politically-motivated arrest.”

“He is not guilty and this is a politically motivated arrest and the truth will come out,” Shulevitz told The Post at Brooklyn Criminal Court ahead of Tischler’s arraignment.

Soya Radin, the co-host of Tischler’s radio show “The Just Enough Heshy Show,” claimed de Blasio was behind the bust.

“Tischler had nothing to do with hitting anyone. Pure de Blasio,” Radin said at the courthouse.

“The Pittsburger Rebbe Was Murdered ” Rosh Yeshivah Says

Hagaon HaRav Yisrael Landua, the Rosh Yeshiva of Heichal Yitzchak in Jerusalem, sharply censured those who disregard health regulations and engage in confrontations with the police in a sicha he delivered to yeshiva bochurim in the Chevron “coronavirus hotel,” Kikar H’Shabbos reported.

“We can’t have a situation where an extremist declares that he doesn’t recognize the laws of the state,” HaRav Landau said. “Uniform laws are necessary for public order and police are needed to enforce them.”

“Regarding police violence, in my opinion, there’s an issue here of a shocking hefkeirus of the Chareidi media which incites and hurls unnecessary accusations, directly causing destruction to the Chareidi public. It’s a lack of adherence to laws, a lack of responsibility. The fact is that people are dying because of the disregard for health regulations.”

“When a policeman sees a group of people attacking him and throwing things at him – he came to close a shul according to to the law and according to daas Torah – he needs to be a malach [not to engage in violence].”

“The Pittsburger Rebbe, z’tl, passed away a week ago. What should have been written was: ‘The Pittsburger Rebbe was murdered by bnei avla.'”

“Two days ago I didn’t daven Maariv in a minyan because I came to shul and there were 15 people without masks. I already had the coronavirus and I’m not afraid. But I couldn’t daven there and I got up and left. This is a shocking situation. We’re busy with a few stray policemen who were violent. The real problem is the lawlessness that leads them to violence. The entire community needs to carry out a chesbon nefesh.”

The Dog Who Had "Techiyas Ha'Meisim" Was 'put down' with a Lethal Injection and Then Buried But He Dug Himself Out

Kiryusha

A  dog that was given a 'lethal injection' and buried by cruel owners somehow  managed to dig himself out of his forest grave - and walked to a roadside to ask for help.

Kiryusha, a seven-year-old German Shepherd was spotted by kindly motorist Olga Lystseva, 39, on a highway in northern Russia.

She passed him walking slowly in the rain along the road, wet and exhausted but the sight of the bedraggled animal haunted her.

After finding some food for him she put him on the back seat of her car.

Kiryusha slept all the way to Ukhta, a distance of 93 miles, where she handed him to a dog rescue service called Kind City.

They began publicising pictures of the animal and received messages that he came from the settlement of Yemva.

The owners were found and they said they had 'put down' the dog claiming he was 'unhealthy'.

They admitted injecting him with a drug intended to kill him and then buried him at a remote spot close to the Ukhta-Syktyvkar highway.

His paw was still shaved where they had injected him with what they intended as a lethal dose.

They 'apologised' for their 'mistake' in burying the dog alive, said the animal shelter.

But tests by a vet found the animal had no serious medical problems and was healthy other than suffering rom hunger and exposure.

Ekaterina Nimak, from the rescue service, said: 'Thanks to Olga, Kiryusha has begun a new life.

Good Lesson to "bachelors" Who Have a Hard Time with Commitment

A woman in a wedding dress was caught on camera storming into a Las Vegas Target and demanding that her fiance - a store employee - marry her on the spot or she'd break up with him.

TikTok user @boymom_ashley posted a two-part video Friday, showing the determined bride-to-be as she marches through the store aisles, searching for her unsuspecting fiance.

She is accompanied by a man in dark clothes and what appears to be a bridesmaid, judging by her frock, the bouquet she's holding and her arm-swinging determination as she keeps pace with the 'bridezilla.'

By Part 2 of the video, the woman - who was not named - has tracked down her fiance, who was in the midst of restocking a shelf.

You put this ring on my finger two years ago and it's time to do it or get out,' she tells her red shirted-finance.

She goes on to tell him that she's brought a pastor and Emily, her bridesmaid, and that if he doesn't marry her 'this second,' she's 'done' and 'out.'

When the bride spots the crowd watching her antics, she greets them and says that she's just making her fiance 'commit' or she's dumping him.

Eventually the finance asks if they can continue the conversation outside and the bride agrees, noting to the camera that she's 'shaking.'

As the fiance walks past the camera, it sounds like he says: 'Could someone had told me then?'

Unfortunately there is no Part 3, showing whether the bride is now married.

It's not clear whether the ambush was real or a staged stunt.

Sweet "Simchas Torah" Story by Sholom Aleichem

When I was a little boy, owning a flag for Simchat Torah—and I mean a real flag in the full sense of the word: a lit candle in an apple and the apple on top of the flag—was such bliss, such joy, I hardly dared dream about it. There were other things to dream about! There were some boys in school who had money for penknives, purses, and little canes. There were those who ate candy and cracked nuts every single day. Not to mention bagels and latkes. There were even those who ate challah not only on Sabbath but on weekdays too.

But me, Kopel, I never tasted challah on weekdays. I was happy if I had my fill of black bread, for we were—God spare you such a bitter lot—a bunch of paupers, despite the fact that everyone in the family worked his fingers to the bone. Father, may he rest in peace was the assistant shamesh of the basement prayer-room annex of the Butchers Synagogue; Mother, God rest her soul, was an expert at baking honey cakes; and my sisters mended socks. And me, I never had the feeling of being full. Believe me, there wasn’t a meal which I couldn’t have begun all over again.

I’m not even talking about having a kopeck in your pocket, a kopeck to call your very own. Of that I never even dream. But once I suddenly became rich and got 44 kopecks to do with as I pleased.

You think a miracle happened? That some rich man’s loss was my gain? Well, you’ve guessed wrong. Or perhaps you suspect I simply nabbed those kopecks from a charity box? God forbid! I swear I earned them honestly. I worked like a horse for them with my own two … feet.

"Mach'Sheifas" Celebrate Shemini Atzeret

Just when you thought that there is nothing that you never heard, comes along a story that blows you mind, and gets crazier and crazier as the article continues.

I do caution you guys and gals not to drink anything hot while reading this as you might spill your drink ....

An acquaintance of mine who is a chassid told me when I emailed the article to him  that he doesn't really find the story different than the "Chassidishe Minhagim" that he and his rebbe practice .... now I don't know whether he was being factious.... but it gave me something to think about ...

Believe me it's a good distraction with all the crap that going around.

Read and enjoy....

Shemini Atzeret—the Jewish holiday that comes at the end of Sukkot—is a time when Jews around the world say Tefilat HaGeshem, a prayer for rain. And the people who will gather to mark the holiday at Jewitch Camp outside San Francisco on the evening of Oct. 4 are no exception.

But this gathering, described as “a sanctuary of spirit drawing on earth-based magic to pursue tikkun olam,” will go further in its rituals.

The group of around 50 feminist, eco-conscious, Jewish-influenced witches who will convene in a sukkah constructed around a hot tub in Richmond, California, won’t just be shaking the lulav and the etrog. They’ll also be casting a circlecalling in the directions, and invoking everyone from the Native American ancestors of the land where they gather, to Ba’al Hadad (literally Master of Thunder), an ancient Canaanite storm and rain god.

“It’s very much about tapping into Canaanite/pagan roots,” said Susie, a Jewitch Camp steward who goes by one name. “Baal Shem Tov earth-based ruach led with kavannah—less about intellect and books.”

Jewitch Camp includes a cross-section of Bay Area Jews, many queer and transgender, and many of whom are involved in Kohenet West, a Hebrew Priestess training program that has ordained 40 Kohanot, or “Hebrew Priestesses,” since 2006. Some are followers of Starhawk, a prominent neo-pagan author of Jewish origin and a founder of the Reclaiming movement, a modern neo-pagan iteration that inspired Jewitch Camp.

Frum Jew beaten on Coney Island boardwalk Victim knocked unconscious in front of wife and child

An Orthodox Jewish man was assaulted on the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn, New York, as his wife and child looked on, a Jewish news site reported.

The assault happened on Tuesday afternoon in front of the famous Cyclone roller coaster at Surf Ave. and West 10th St., Boropark24 reported.

The victim, who was not named, was briefly knocked unconscious and required medical attention.

Shmilu Follman, a coordinator for the Borough Park Shomrim, an emergency response group that serves the Jewish community, told the news site that staff searched the scene but could identify no suspects.

Assaults against Jews in the city have spiked over the past year as part of a nationwide surge.

Last year saw the most anti-Semitic incidents in the United States since at least 1979, according to the Anti-Defamation League. Of those, more than one-fifth occurred in New York, where about 20% of American Jews live.

Bobov 45 Rebbe Comes to Shul With the Deadly Covid on Hoshana Raba

Hoshana Raba Bobov 45

Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox congregants attended an indoor prayer service in Borough Park on Friday in open defiance of Governor Andrew Cuomo newly imposed restrictions on religious gatherings in COVID hotspots. The service was led by a prominent rabbi who tested positive for coronavirus one week ago, multiple sources told Gothamist.

For five hours on Friday, roughly 300 people gathered without masks inside the Bobov-45 synagogue on 15th Avenue, according to one person in the room. Mordechai Dovid Unger, the grand rabbi of the Hasidic dynasty, led the ceremony from behind a plexiglass shield.

Congregants of Bobov-45 say they were informed by synagogue leaders last Friday that Unger would miss the first night of Sukkot due to a positive coronavirus diagnosis. He made brief appearances outside the synagogue later in the weekend alongside a physician, but then stopped coming, sources said.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, the local news site BoroPark24 reported that Unger had tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing mild symptoms.

Two members of the Bobov-45 community, who asked that their names be withheld out of fear of reprisal, said they were shocked by Unger's decision to return to the synagogue for a full service on Friday.

"My reaction was, that’s very selfish and unethical and just crazy," said the person who attended today's service.

Another source told Gothamist he'd been avoiding the synagogue since hearing the news last Friday. "I used to be there all the time" he said. "But it's just not safe. They're not doing the right thing."
