New Israeli Navy Captain’s Ancestor Was a German U-Boat Commander

Benny graduated from the Israel Navy’s ship captain’s course last week and will join the crew of a new German-made warship,

Remarkably, the uncle of Gerloff’s grandmother was a German U-boat commander in World War 2, Ynet reported Monday.

Gerloff was born and raised in Israel, however his non-Jewish parents are of German and Czech descent and arrived in the Jewish state 25 years ago. As a permanent resident, Gerloff is required to enlist in the IDF, and his family are no strangers to national service.

His brother served as a platoon commander in the Kfir Brigade and his sister was a combat fighter in the IDF’s Oketz canine unit. Benny himself was drafted into the Navy’s elite Shayete 13 commando unit – the equivalent of the U.S. Navy Seals – but when he washed out in the final rounds he reached back to the distant skipper genes from his family and was accepted to the Navy’s prestigious seamanship course.

“The people of Israel in the Land of Israel have a significant part in our faith,” Gerloff, who is Christian, told Ynet. “My great-grandfather was a priest during World War II, with the Germans who opposed Nazism and was therefore persecuted by the Nazis and imprisoned for it.”

“Great-grandfather on the other side helped his Jewish friend send food parcels to his relatives in the concentration camps, and to this day we have some of the letters of thanks he sent him. From there, from those days, my love for Israel was rooted in my family and my father came here at the age of 18 to volunteer,” he explained.

“In our eyes, the people of Israel and the Land of Israel are part of God’s plan and that is why I serve in the IDF and it is important for me to defend the country,” he said

In the black-and-white photo he and his parents keep to this day, Lieutenant Gerloff’s unique story takes on a fascinating meaning: the photo shows his family at a wedding held in southern Germany in the early 1940s, featuring an officer wearing the black uniform of the German navy. That was his grandmother’s uncle, who had been a doctor by profession, but was drafted into the German navy after the outbreak of the war and commanded a submarine that was eventually sunk, apparently by the British navy.

“I don’t know much about him, other than the fact that he was required to enlist,” Gerloff said. “My grandmother always emphasized that he was not a Nazi.”

Most of Gerloff’s family members still live in the area of the town of Neuenberg in the heart of the Black Forest on the French border.

His relatives watched the graduation ceremony via Zoom where Defense Minister Benny Gantz pinned his new officer’s bars on his shoulders, and he said they were very excited.

“Most of them live in Germany and grandparents in particular were happy to see me with navy uniform and officer’s rank,” he said, adding his 89-year-old grandmother in Germany always prays facing towards Jerusalem.

Lieutenant Gerloff will serve as a shift officer on the command bridge of a new Navy ship Saar 6 warship scheduled to arrive in the coming months from the port of Kiel in northern Germany.

“It can definitely be a personal and meaningful closing of a circle for me,” he admits.

Saudi Shocker: Temple Mount is Jewish, Muslims Should Pray Toward Mecca....

Saudi Twitter users have recently been pushing a new line of thought that plays up the importance of Muslims praying towards the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, while downplaying the importance of the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Israel National News(INN) reported Sunday.

The controversial campaign appears to be designed to push the message emphasizing the importance of the Saudi cities of Mecca and Medina as the holy places of Islam, and to eliminate the importance of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount for Muslims, thereby decreasing any Islamic authority the Palestinians have over the site.

One of the messages reportedly comes from well-known Saudi cartoonist Fahd al-Jabiri, who tweeted that “the direction of the prayers of the Jews is not important to us, what is important to us is only our homeland.”

Another English-language tweet is by a Moroccan user named Ibtissam Zegiga whose profile says he studies Hebrew and wants peace, and calls on “dear brothers and sisters” to join in the movement.

“This recent Saudi twitter movement believes that there is no importance of the temple mount to Muslims, and the waiting for the [Jewish] third temple. A new era, one of peace.”

According to the report, the Saudi campaign is in response to the Palestinian insults online and chants against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia heard at at demonstrations at the Temple Mount after prayers on Fridays. The Saudis have quietly supported the recent Abraham Accords the established peace between four Arab countries and Israel, and that has infuriated the Palestinians.

The reaction of the Saudis is to emphasize that the Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem is simply a mosque like all mosques, but the direction of prayer for all Muslims no matter where they are on the planet is only towards to the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

One tweet from the account Saudi Arabia In Numbers said Muslims were not religiously obligated to help the Palestinians by fighting for Jerusalem, where the Palestinians constantly emphasize that the Al Aqsa mosque is the “third holiest site in Islam.”

“Our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not leave us with a commandment, even with one word, that Jerusalem must be liberated,” the tweet read, adding, “The only two holy mosques are in [the Saudi cities of] Mecca and Medina.”

“In the end, it is becoming increasingly clear that the main obstacle to achieving the realization of the cry ‘the Temple Mount is in our hands,’ is us ourselves,” Tom Nissani, CEO of the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, told INN.

“Now the Saudis and Moroccans also emphasize the strong connection of the Jewish people to the Temple Mount and the diminution of its importance to Islam,” Nisani noted. “This is a historic opportunity to expel the hostile Waqf from the Temple Mount and transfer it to full Israeli management that will allow full freedom of access and religion to the mountain in cooperation with the Emirates, Saudis and Moroccans, Jews and non-Jews who will attain shared goals.”

Meghan Markle’s sister says estranged sibling has ‘narcissistic personality disorder’

Meghan Markle’s half-sister said Monday that her estranged sibling suffers from “narcissistic personality disorder” — while Markle’s hubby Prince Harry is the victim of Stockholm syndrome.

“I definitely see a narcissistic personality disorder. I’m not diagnosing her. She needs to see a counselor,’’ Samantha Markle told the Australian radio show “Fifi, Fev and Nick’’ the day after Meghan and Harry’s bombshell TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.

“I feel sorry for Harry,’’ Samantha said. “She pulled him away from his family, all of his friends, the life that he knew.

“He reminds me of one of those kidnap victims who eventually starts to believe that their life was so horrible and they’re in love with their captor.”

In addition to taking on the royal family during the sit-down with Winfrey, Meghan ripped into Samantha, dousing shade on the half-sister’s new “tell-all’’ memoir, “The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1.’’

“I think it would be very hard to tell all when you don’t know me,” Markle said.

Meghan claimed that the last time she saw Samantha “must have been at least 18, 19 years ago’’ and referred to herself as “an only child.”

She had said, ‘I haven’t hadn’t seen Samantha for 19 years.’ Well, she was at my graduation from my bachelor degree — there was so many photos in the media that are … about that, and that was 2008, so don’t know about you, but if you do the math, 2008 to now is not 19 years!” Samantha said.

“To suggest that she was an only child was really delusional,’’ the sibling added of Meghan.

Samantha also challenged Markle over presenting herself as absolutely clueless about the royals before she met Harry.

Meghan told Winfrey, “I didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family. … I never looked up my husband online.’’

Samantha claimed, “She’s been seen in several photos in front of Buckingham palace!

“She idolized Diana,’’ the sibling said, referring to Princess Di, Harry’s mother.

“In fact, Meghan went to great lengths to study Diana, to mimic her clothing, to mimic her body language and to wear Diana’s perfume on their first date! Don’t tell me my sister didn’t know who Harry was!”

Meghan claimed Samantha only changed her married name back to Markle after the now-royal began dating Harry — but Samantha said, “First of all, I did an interview, and I held up my college degree — my name’s been Markle since 1964 – it’s on my college degree!”

Meghan also publicly accused her dad of “betrayal’’ by selling her out to the tabloids and lamented to Winfrey, “I’ve lost my father.”

Samantha, who has the same father, Thomas Markle, said their dad watched the interview and, “He’s very hurt.

“And for her to say, ‘I lost my dad,’ I felt like, oh, my God, and the Oscar goes to, ‘I lost my dad!’

“[Oprah] needs to get Dr. Phil on my sister,’’ Samantha said, referring to Winfrey’s favorite TV psychologist, Dr. Phil McGraw.

Biden's Dogs Banished From White House After Biting Security ...

Is Biden next? Kamala can't wait until he croaks

They’re in the dog house now.

President Biden’s two German shepherds have been moved out of the White House after one of them showed some ruff behavior, reports said Monday.

First dogs Major and Champ were sent back to the Biden family home in Wilmington, Delaware last week, CNN and TMZ reported.

Major, who made history as the first rescue dog in the Executive Mansion, is said to have bitten a member of White House security, according to the reports.

The 3-year-old pooch has also reportedly been barking and lunging at staff and security.

He was adopted by the president and First Lady Jill Biden from the Delaware Humane Association in 2018. Joe Biden fractured his foot while playing with Major back in November.

Champ is the older of the two at 13 and has been part of the Biden family since 2008.

The pooches officially moved in to the White House on Jan. 25 after spending the first week of the Biden administration at the Delaware home.

They’ve been allowed to roam the grounds around the complex and have been included in Oval Office photos.

The White House didn’t return a request for comment from The Post.
