Pollster: If Trump Wins, ‘End of Public Polling’ in Politics

GOP pollster Frank Luntz said if President Donald Trump wins Nov. 3 it might be the ”end of public polling” in politics.

In remarks on The Interview podcast, Luntz gave the wake-up call when asked about an election outcome that defies what appears to be poor polling for Trump.

”If polling gets it wrong again, then the industry, at least for politics, is done,” Luntz said, Mediaite reported.

Amy Coney Barrett Will Be Confirmed Because Kavanaugh Battle Taught GOP To Stop Getting Played By Democrat Dirty Tricks

Amy Coney Barrett has not yet been confirmed as an associate justice of the Supreme Court by the U.S. Senate, but there is no question that her confirmation battle has gone much better than the one endured by Brett Kavanaugh and his supporters. The undervalued reason why is that Republicans and their voters are not wasting any time on dirty tricks from their opponents in the Senate and in the media.

This confirmation was supposed to be apocalyptic. That’s what I predicted. One of the closing paragraphs of “Justice On Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court,” the book I wrote with Carrie Severino:

As ugly as Kavanaugh’s confirmation battle became, he is unlikely to shift the Court dramatically. Except on abortion and homosexuality, Justice Kennedy usually voted with the conservatives. If Justice Ginsburg were to retire while Trump was in the White House, the resulting appointment would probably be like the Thomas-for-Marshall trade. Compared with what might follow, the Kavanaugh confirmation might look like the good old days of civility.

Clearly, we were wrong. There are many reasons for that, and it’s worth looking at them.

Lives of 130,000 Americans will be saved by March if 95% of people wear masks - but COVID-19 death toll will top 500,000 if they don't, study predicts

If 95 percent of Americans wore masks consistently, nearly 130,00 lives could be saved between now and March 2021, a new study suggests.

Without measures like masks and social distancing, however, the US coronavirus death toll is likely to exceed 511,000 by then, the latest research from the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) estimates.

As of now, fewer than half of Americans say they 'always' wear a mask when they are in public.

Realistically, the researchers don't anticipate masking will become near-universal - it's still a subject of heated controversy in much of the US.

But it will be critical that states don't further relax restrictions like social distancing aimed at reducing the spread of coronavirus. Doing so, they warn, could result in more than one million Americans dying of COVID-19 by the end of February.

Already, the pandemic has claimed the lives of well over 220,000 Americans, and the toll is rising by an average of more than 760 fatalities a day.

Most experts - including those at the IHME - predict that deaths will only rise more  steeply as we enter the colder winter months and gatherings move indoors where there is a greater risk of transmission.

More than 50 percent of people in the US only sometimes or never wear masks, according to the IHME study, published Friday in Nature Medicine.

Masks can reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission by up to 30 percent, several  studies have shown.

Trump Brands Sacha Baron Cohen As "That Unfunny Creep"

President Trump is no fan of Sacha Baron Cohen or his ‘Borat’ character.

The notorious British comedian made headlines this week for tricking Trump ally Rudy Giuliani into an embarrassing cameo in his new film, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.”

“Years ago, you know, he tried to scam me. And I was the only one who said no way. That’s a phony guy. And I don’t find him funny,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Friday, The Sun reported. “To me, he was a creep.”

The incident with Cohen happened roughly 15 years ago, Trump said, without going into additional details.

Cohen did score a brief interview with Trump in 2003 while dressed as his character Ali G. The faux-British rapper pitched a visibly annoyed Trump on the possibility of investing in gloves to protect your hands while eating ice cream.

“I hope you make a lot of money,” Trump told him before leaving.

The film has faced critics in other corners as well, including author and financial analyst Nassim Nicholas Taleb, who derided the character as racist.

“Borat is nearly the most racist movie in history, overtly degrading the pple [sic] of #Kazakhstan. Yet many get ‘cancelled’ for misusing a certain words out of context. So Sacha Baron Cohen & authors get a free pass by the ‘left’ because he attacks Giuliani?,” Taleb wrote on Twitter. “I visited Kazakhstan a few times. Every time, locals brought the subject & insisted that Borat was not representative, that it was unfair, that it cause a lot of damage, etc.”

Trump, Mnuchin say ball is in Pelosi’s court in COVID-19 stimulus negotiations

President Trump and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Friday accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of hijacking COVID-19 economic relief by spurning their offers of urgently-needed stimulus.

Speaking in the Oval Office — just 11 days from the presidential election — Mnuchin, the administration’s point person on negotiations, said the ball was in the California Democrat’s court after months of fruitless discussions.

“We’ve offered compromises. The speaker on a number of issues has still dug in. If she wants to compromise, there will be a deal,” Mnuchin told reporters.

“We’ve made lots of progress in lots of areas but there’s still some significant differences that we’re working on,” he went on.

The Trump administration raised their most recent offer to $1.8 trillion but that is still significantly lower than the Democrat’s $3.3 trillion starting point. Republicans in Congress are unwilling to support anything higher than $2 trillion.

Hope that a fifth wave of relief will pass Congress before the election has essentially faded, prompting a fierce round of finger pointing as Democrats accuse Republicans of penny-pinching during an unprecedented recession caused by the pandemic.

But Trump on Friday said the speaker was trying to secure funding for matters unrelated to the pandemic and claimed she didn’t want to reach a deal before the election.

Trump Announces Sudan-Israel Peace Deal; Says Five More Coming – Possibly Including Saudi Arabia

President Donald Trump announced Friday that Sudan will start to normalize ties with Israel, making it the third Arab state to do so as part of U.S.-brokered deals in the run-up to Election Day.

The deal, which would deepen Sudan’s engagement with the West, follows Trump’s conditional agreement this week to remove the North African nation from the list of state sponsors of terrorism if it pays compensation to American victims of terror attacks.

It also delivers a foreign policy achievement for Trump just days before the U.S. election and boosts his embattled ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Recently, the United States brokered diplomatic pacts between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Jordan recognized Israel in the 1990s.

He said “at leave five” other countries “want to come in” and join the UAE, Bahrain and now Sudan, added that “many more” will follow, indicated that Saudi Arabia would be one of them, and predicted that ultimately Iran would follow suit.

Joint Statement of the United States, the Republic of Sudan, and the State of Israel:
