On Saturday night, shortly after observant Jews went back online after Shabbat, Orthodox media outlets, Twitter accounts, and WhatsApp groups were ablaze about news that had broken several hours earlier.
At his afternoon press conference, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that his office would shut down a planned wedding for the grandson of Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, the Williamsburg Satmar rabbi, which organizers said would attract as many as 10,000 followers. In the days leading up to the governor’s statement, I was the sole voice warning, both on social media and via private channels, about this upcoming potential “super spreader” event.
But here’s how the popular Orthodox news site Yeshiva World News reported on it: “YWN notes that the rabid self-hating Jew Naftali [sic] Moster of the YAFFED Organization who has been working for years b’mesiras nefesh [with relentless zeal] to destroy our Mosdos Hatorah [Torah institutions and schools], has the past few days been alerting the media and the authorities about this wedding.”
YWN is keenly aware of the dangers of whipping up the crowd against individuals with such language. Just in the last two weeks they reported on the brutal attacks against Berish Getz and Jacob Kornbluh, a former YWN journalist now with Jewish Insider, who were both accused of being “mosers” (snitches). Following the incidents, YWN was widely praised for publishing an op-ed by Yehuda Rechnitz, an influential Orthodox millionaire, in which he denounced the main inciter of those attacks, Heshy Tischler.
As expected, a torrent of hateful messages toward me followed the YWN article. I was called a “Nazi,” a member of the “Judenrat,” and a moser. One commenter on Vos iz Neias, another Orthodox news site, wrote that I “must be taken out.”
My motivation for reporting such irresponsible behavior outweighs the unpleasantness of the online harassment, although I am unfortunately well aware that it could escalate to physical violence.
A week ago on Monday, I received the first tip about the planned wedding from a Hasidic friend whom I had gotten to know through my work at Yaffed, the organization I founded, that aims to increase secular education standards in Hasidic and other ultra-Orthodox schools. In recent months, the tipster’s greatest frustration has been the Haredi Orthodox leadership’s failure to serve as role models to the community members who take their cues from them, as well as the media and government’s failure to see through the blatant deceit and doublespeak of community leaders.
He sent me a picture of the wedding announcement featured in a Hasidic newspaper.
The announcement read, in part, “Friends near and far, dear students, please participate in my celebration.” It provided the address of the big Satmar shul of Williamsburg, and it was signed by Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, the grand rabbi of Satmar of Williamsburg.

The statement Wednesday night asserting that the former vice president was a willing and eager participant in a family scheme to make millions of dollars by partnering with a shady Chinese Communist firm is a singular event in a presidential race already overflowing with drama and intrigue.
The dynamite assertion, believable because it aligns with earlier information we know to be true, came in a statement by Tony Bobulinski, who describes himself as a former partner of Hunter Biden, Joe Biden and Joe’s brother Jim in the China scheme. Bobulinski unloads his bill of accusations in blunt but precise language and detail.
He confirms that he was one of the recipients of the May 13, 2017, e-mail published by The Post eight days ago. That e-mail, from another partner in the group, laid out cash and equity positions and mysteriously included a 10 percent set-aside for “the big guy.”
Sources have said the “big guy” was Joe Biden. In a matter-of-fact manner, Bobulinski states that the “e-mail is genuine” and that the former vice president and the man leading in the 2020 race is indeed “the big guy.”
That claim alone rips out the heart of nearly everything Joe Biden has ever said about Hunter’s many businesses and Joe’s knowledge of them. His repeated insistence that the two never spoke of the son’s global sources of money didn’t pass the laugh test.
After all, they traveled together to China on Air Force Two, where Hunter landed a $1.5 billion commitment from a government-controlled Chinese bank. Then there was Hunter’s $83,000-a-month gig on the board of a Ukrainian energy company — despite his lack of experience in Ukraine or knowledge of energy.

On October 15, 2020, Bari Weiss, the journalist who resigned from the New York Times, no longer willing to tolerate the anti Jewish biases which she noted and to which she was subjected, published a piece called “Stop Being Shocked,” in Tablet.
In this article, Ms. Weiss expresses surprise at the Jewish community’s failure to acknowledge the growing intolerance of Jews and Zionism in present day America. In support, I offer some of my own thoughts on this disturbing subject.
Way back in the fifties, when I was a student at Esther Schoenfeld High School on the lower East Side of New York, we studied a book of Jewish history written in Hebrew, imported from Israel and taught by our beloved teacher, Morah Altuskey. It was a very small book, printed on very cheap paper but I cherished it until it finally crumbled and could no longer be salvaged. Each chapter began, "Vedarach Hashemesh Vezarach Hashemesh - The sun set on one Jewish community and rose on another."
So it was with the Rhineland, Spain, Portugal, Poland and so forth, all through Jewish history, down through the ages.
The sun is setting for American Jews. It was inevitable. I wish I could write as eloquently as Bari Weiss, but I can’t, I speak and write in Bronx English peppered with Yiddish. There is a Yiddish expression, "Doss zelbeh kallah ahndersh geshlait - the same bride, just dressed differently." Anti-Zionist, anti-Israel, anti-hareidim, all euphemisms for anti-Semitism.
America is entering a revolutionary phase. Although the so called ghettoes all across America have been smoldering for decades, they were left unattended or unmanaged. Now these fires have erupted into flames forming movements to tear down, destroy, eliminate history, eliminate SAT, eliminate white privilege, eliminate what have you. This is a movement may in part be a result of despair and hopelessness, but it is fueled on by lawlessness and driven by cunning manipulators with their own agendas. The skewed thinking is since we believe we cannot achieve and succeed in so called white America as it exists, we will take by force and derive benefits by other unconventional, lawless means.
We Jews always head the target list for attack. Why? For the same reasons we held that honored position in Germany, Austria, in every country on the face of the globe. Cancel culture is part of this thinking, especially our culture, not unlike the Nazis ripping apart Torah scrolls. A culture of “Thou shalt not,” needs to be destroyed else one cannot loot, steal, burn, take wrongfully what is not yours.
America has failed miserably, for whatever reasons, in addressing the needs and wants of inner city populations, mostly black, and now America is under attack - but we, the Jews, are the first victims. Our being singled out and targeted has nothing to do with Zionism, Rabin, Israeli politics, hassidim, and everything to do with Jews as history’s favorite object of envy and scapegoating.
Many Orthodox Jews observe what is happening and where this is heading. A friend who applied for Aliyah wrote, “We are getting out before they throw us out.” Jews with little or no affiliation or understanding of Jewish history are having difficulty connecting the dots. Wasn’t that true of German Jews in the thirties?
Some Jews are surprised or shocked and some are in total denial. Remember, the esteemed Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel marched with Martin Luther King in the sixties yet when black Hollywood made the movie Selma depicting the event, Heschel was completely left out of the film.
Unfounded hysteria? Jewish paranoia? The Jewish Agency reports that American Jews are applying for Aliyah in record numbers. The sun may be setting for Jews in America but here in Israel, the sun is rising and every day, thanks to Hashem, growing stronger and brighter.

A Brooklyn man involved in the fatal crash that killed a Williamsburg Jewish couple and their unborn baby in March 2013, has had his convictions overturned.
On March 3, 2013, Julio Acevedo crashed into a livery cab while driving his BMW at 70 miles per hour, killing Nathan Glauber, 21, and his wife, Raizy, 21, who was seven months pregnant with their son, Tanchem. He was delivered alive, but died the next day.
Acevedo fled the scene of the accident, but was arrested by police 4 days later.
In 2015, Acevedo was convicted of two counts of second-degree manslaughter, one count of criminally negligent homicide and two counts of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting in Feb. 2015 after a trial.
Acevedo faced up to 15 years in prison on the top count, but because he was a persistent felony offender, he received an enhanced sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
But Acevedo’s convictions were overturned today by the Second Judicial Department of the Appellate Court of New York State. The court ruled that the evidence against him was legally insufficient to conclude that his driving was reckless enough to be considered criminal negligence.
This leaves one charge remaining, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting it, for which Acevedo will be resentenced.
HaRav of Reb Yosef Weiss Z”L, the beloved Menahel at Yeshiva Shagas Aryeh in Lakewood, and the author of multiple books, most notably the popular “Visions of Greatness” series died on Wednesday, he was 59.
The Niftar previously served as the head Yeshiva Ruach Hatorah, and in earlier years was the English principal in Satmar and other Yeshivas.
