DIN Musings ....Bereishis

R' Moshe Chayim Luzzato in his hakdama to his famous mussar sefer "Mesilas Yesharim, writes:

הַחִבּוּר הַזֶּה לֹא חִבַּרְתִּיו לְלַמֵּד לִבְנֵי הָאָדָם אֶת אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָדְעוּ, אֶלָּא לְהַזְכִּירָם אֶת הַיָּדוּעַ לָהֶם כְּבָר

“I did not write this composition in order to teach people what they do not know, but rather to remind them of what they already know.”

There are dozens of midrashim on the very first verse in Sefer Bereishis, yet Rashi chose a specific Midrash to open his famous commentary on the Torah.

Rabbi Yitzchak said: The Torah did not need to begin anywhere except from “This month shall be for you…” (Exodus 12:2), because that is the first commandment with which Israel was commanded. So why does it begin with “In the beginning”? It is because: “He declared the power of His works to His people, to give them the inheritance of nations” (Psalms 111). For if the nations of the world say to Israel: “You are thieves, for you conquered the lands of the seven nations,” they can reply: “The entire earth belongs to the Holy One, blessed be He. He created it and gave it to whomever was right in His eyes. It was His will to give it to them, and His will to take it from them and give it to us.”

Rashi asks: Why start the Torah with Creation when the Torah is fundamentally a book of mitzvos? Shouldn’t it begin with the first commandment—Rosh Chodesh?

His answer seems directed at the nations of the world: there will come a time that the nations of the world will claim that the Jews “stole” Eretz Yisrael.

The Torah therefore begins by establishing that G-D created the world, and He alone assigns its lands.

Jews can then answer, "God created world and everything is His, and he decided to take it from the nations and give it to the Jewish children"

My question is, Would any non‑Jewish nation actually be convinced by this argument?

So why does Rashi open his commentary with a statement that seems irrelevant—if not absurd—on the world stage?

The answer is simple and profound:The statement that

“The entire earth belongs to the Holy One, blessed be He. He created it and gave it to whomever was right in His eyes. It was His will to give it to them, and His will to take it from them and give it to us.”

is not for goyim at all, it's for the Jews themselves!

To understand this, one must first know in what historical context Rashi wrote this.

Rashi wrote his commentary a thousand years ago, when a major catastrophe struck the Jews which was the massacres of the First Crusade in 1096.

During the Crusade, mobs of peasants and minor knights swept through the Rhineland on their way to the Holy Land. Instead of fighting Muslims, they turned violently on Jewish communities in: Worms, Mainz ,Cologne, and Lorraine

These attacks resulted in the murder of thousands of Jews, with estimates around 12,000 killed. Entire communities were wiped out, and many Jews chose mass suicide rather than forced conversion.

Rashi was 55 years old at the time. Although his hometown Troyes was spared, the centers where he studied—Mainz and Worms—were devastated. Three sons of Rashi’s teacher, Rabbi Isaac ben Eliezer Halevi, were murdered. Rashi lost friends, relatives, and colleagues to the massacres.

And in that world, the idea of Jews returning to Eretz Yisrael was not merely unrealistic—it was unimaginable.

So imagine telling the Crusaders:

“God created the world and gave Eretz Yisrael to the Jews.”

It would have been a tragic joke.

Yet Rashi chooses this Midrash as the very first words of his commentary.

Why?

Because Rashi is addressing us—the Jews who open a Chumash, who learn Torah, who care about Rashi’s words.

He declared the power of His works to His people,"

notice it doesn't say לעמים it states לְעַמּוֹ

The RBS"O is addressing US, his people, not the nations!

Rashi is also NOT addressing his commentary to Reform Progressive Jews who neither learn Torah nor do they study Rashi, and who deny the Torah’s authority.

Rashi is addressing Jews that are frum, that are Charedim who say like the "Dangerous Bubby from Hell" in my sidebar, that "Eretz Yisrael now belongs to the Palestinians."

Rashi is addressing the Torah Leaders who do not recognize the State of Israel and as one just said last week that he would "rather live in Israel under Arab rule"

These Torah leaders, echo the very words Rashi predicted and say time and again:

"“You (Zionists) are thieves, for you conquered the lands"

Rashi writes, respond to them

"The entire earth belongs to the Holy One, blessed be He. He created it and gave it to whomever was right in His eyes. It was His will to give it to them"

This is not a message for the nations. It is a message for Jews who have forgotten what they already know.

Just as the Ramchal wrote: “I did not write to teach what is unknown, but to remind you of what you already know.”

Rashi opens the Torah by reminding us—before anything else—of the most basic truth:

Eretz Yisrael is ours because HaKadosh Baruch Hu gave it to us.

Not because of politics. Not because of Zionists, Not because of Charedim, Not because of armies. Not because of nations. But because the Creator of the universe willed it so.

And that reminder was necessary a thousand years ago. It is no less necessary today.

Because Rashi knew Moshiach is coming one day. Chiloni Zionists who don’t even believe in Moshiach or Hashem for that matter RL were never on the same page as Hashem & Rashi anyway while DIN cheerleads for them

Except the pasuk:

isn't talking about Moshiac,at all, see Rashi in (תהילים קיא)
I am constantly amazed at the Yshivishe ama-ratzim who shoot their mouth off thinking that they are still in kollel,
I see you know what Hashem wants!
I'll tell what He wants, I asked my 9 year old grandson

to duh,
Do the non chiloni anti Zionists building fast homes and fancy renovations in NJ believe in Mashiach? I recall reading about rabbis in Europe who had only a few possessions and had them in suitcases in case he comes today.

Yehuda
Part one!
WOW!!!! A Huge חידוש!!!!!! WOW! Holy Cow !!!!

I'll answer you in a minute but first, what about the Rambam that says that the 3rd Bais Hamikdash will be built by humans? Not come down from Heaven?
.1) Hilchos Melachim 11:1
Here the Rambam writes that Moshiach will:
“Build the Mikdash.”
This means the Third Beis HaMikdash is built by humans, not by angels, not descending from Heaven.
2. Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1:12
The Rambam writes:
“It is a mitzvah to strengthen and elevate the building according to the ability of the community.”
This describes human construction, communal effort, and physical building — implying that the Mikdash is built by people, not miraculously.
3. Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1:1
The Rambam opens with:
“It is a positive commandment to make a House for Hashem…”
A mitzvah incumbent on Israel, not on angels.
Putting it together
The Rambam’s position is:
✔ The Third Beis HaMikdash will be built
✔ It will be built by human beings
✔ Specifically, it will be built by Moshiach (Hilchos Melachim 11)
✔ And it is a mitzvah on the Jewish people to build and beautify it (Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 1)
He never says it will descend from Heaven.
He never says it will be built by angels.
He never says it will appear miraculously.

He says that the Jewish people will build it — exactly as they did in the First and Second Temples.

Now for you Chidush!!!!!!
It seems that in just a few years, Jews living in Chutz Le'aaretz will "be spit out"תָּקִיא אוֹתָם הָאָרֶץ
In fact in the last 2,000 years Jews have been spit out of England, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Romania, France, Italy, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Belgium and very soon from the USA
Where will you be running?????

During the Holocaust, no Jew (Frum or Chiloni) living in Eretz Yisrael was harmed
The land isn't "spitting us out"; in fact, we have the majority of all Jews on this planet living in the Zionist State of Israel!

See Yalkut Shimoni, Tehillim 869
“אפילו ריקנין שבארץ ישראל מלאים מצוות כרימון.”
"Even the empty ones in Eretz Yisrael are full of mitzvos like a pomegranate."

Midrash Shocher Tov (Midrash Tehillim), on Tehillim 92:13

Chazal do not say “tzaddik” explicitly here, but the implication is unmistakable:
Someone who is guaranteed Olam HaBa is a tzaddik.

You, the one quoting that Rambam and your evil implications, cannot possibly be from זרע אברהם

In just two weeks we will see how Avraham Aveenu begs the RBS"O to save Sedoim! Who were the people of Sedoim?

I'll bet the worst people ever to have lived on this planet, yet Avraham Aveenu begged that the RBS"O not destroy that city!
The Torah, we know doesn't have one extra letter, yet the RBS"O saw fit to dedicate 14 pesukin to this exchange between Avraham and Himself where Avraham is pleading on behalf of the evil residents of Sedoim,
Yet YOU found the time to search a Rambam, wanting in your evil heart that Hashem chase the Jews out of the State of Israel, a State that is the home for the majority of the Jewish people, and has the most moisdois Hatorah than anywhere in the world, And BTW is that largest donor to Heimishe Torah Moisdois, granting close to abillion Shekel just last year alone.
Yet YOU, instead of looking for a Zchus for the Jews living in Eretz Yisrael, which I showed you countless Torah sources that anyone living in Eretz Yisrael is a ben olom Habah!, YOU instead search for sources that you think will be a kitrig to the HOLY RESIDENTS of the Zionist State !
How do you even live with yourself?
Who married you?
Do you even have children?
Is that what they hear from your filthy mouth ?
Asking for a friend!

Jews like Rav Landau, Rav Hirsch, Rav Yosef, Gerer & Belzer Rebbe have MKs in the Knesset!
They don't seem to know that "Jews wait for Mashiach to establish a government"

The Gemarras in Vayoel Moshe is always out of context and goes against practically all Rishonim!
Some of his Gemmaras that Vayoel Moshe quotes is MISQUOTED!
and he has a habit of supporting his twisted view with support from guess who?
The Meraglim!
For example!
The Vayoel Moshe in his
writes the following about Zionists...guys hold on to your seats!
"העמלקים התיישבו בארץ ישראל"
The meraglim said
"עֲמָלֵ֥ק יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַנֶּ֑גֶב"
Sounds familiar?
From the 5,845 pesukim in the Torah, The Vayoel Moshe chose the same one the meraglim used
Was that a Freudian slip??
