Tens of Thousands of Kollel guys and Avreichim Excited about Having a Day Off and Not having to Learn While Collecting their Checks

Avreichim enjoying their ride to Yerushalayim this morning

I walked into my Kollel this morning, as I do every day. But today, the Beis Medrash was “more or less empty.” אין קול ואין עונה

What does that mean? It means the Baalei Batim—those who come out of love for Torah, unpaid and uncelebrated—were there, learning as always.

But the Avreichim? The ones on the payroll? Gone. Even the Rosh Kollel was missing.

Where were they?

They were in Yerushalayim, protesting. Not for the dead hostages rotting in Gaza tunnels. Not for the soldiers sent to the front three and four times over. Not for the widows, orphans, and shattered families. No. They were protesting for a draft dodger.

No rabbi called for a day of protest when our brothers were kidnapped. No mass rally when soldiers died defending our land. But today, thousands closed their Gemarras to chant slogans and pray!

Will someone please make a cogent argument why a milchemet mitzvah—which overrides Shabbos and Yom Kippur according to all respected poskim—is somehow not a mitzvah for Charedim?

Will someone justify how a massive segment of Israeli society takes every benefit—housing, stipends, protection—yet refuses to share in the burden of defending the nation?

And yes, they’ll still get paid today. For a day spent not in Torah, but in politics. For turning their backs on their brothers in arms. For choosing division over unity.

Hashem yerachem.

There will be no speeches at all at the tefilla rally today, let alone "soaked in resentment and denial."

Stop pretending you love torah. If you really valued people who sit and learn, you wouldn't talk this way about Avreichim. If the IDF was run by Chareidim, it would be justified to ask many more Avreichim to enlist. The way the IDF is structured right now, you clearly don't care about the chareidim staying chareidim if you demand that they "share the burden". Would the chilonim enlist if the IDF was run by chareidim?!

I don’t need to “pretend” I love Torah—I live it. I learn every day in Kollel, and I give multiple well-attended shiurim and I deeply value those who dedicate their lives to Torah study. But loving Torah doesn’t mean turning a blind eye to the suffering of Acheinu Bnei Yisrael who are fighting and dying to protect us.

You say the IDF isn’t structured to preserve Charedi identity. Fine—let’s talk about that. There are Hesder programs, Netzach Yehuda units, and other frameworks that allow religious soldiers to serve with dignity. Are they perfect? No. But refusing to engage at all isn’t a solution—it’s an abdication.

And let’s be honest: if the IDF were run by Charedim, would chilonim enlist? Maybe not. But that’s not the point. The IDF isn’t a religious institution—it’s a national one. It protects everyone, including those who learn Torah. And in a milchemet mitzvah, every Jew has a role to play.

Sharing the burden doesn’t mean abandoning Torah—it means living it. It means Ve’ahavta l’re’acha kamocha. It means Lo ta’amod al dam re’echa. It means recognizing that Torah and responsibility are not opposites—they are partners.

So yes, I love Torah. And I love Am Yisrael. And I refuse to believe that one must come at the expense of the other.

Judaism if full of different opinions chariedim can protest for what they believe is right, and you can protest for what you believe is right. But the title to this article comes off as just putting down chariedim. Not having a respectful disagreement.

never saw a post about the chilonim who dont need to enlist because they are playing soccer or the violin....something tells me u only have it out for the chareidim, if u really believed in the torah and its koach u would be begging people to go learn. and dont forget "not perfect" units are just as bad as the regular units. as the rambam says (u hold of him dont you?) if they even tell us to change our shoelace we are chayiv to give up our life. gadol hamachti yoter min hahorgoy - chazal (i hope u hold of them)

Tell me chuchim.... according to your dumb, stupid comment, who should go to the army? No one?
I don't see any of the Charediem giving up their lives at all? in fact, they call out a half million people when one of them has to crap in a jail!
Meanwhile, the ones that are giving up their lives for the Jewish people are the Chilonim!
Open a Tanach, in every single tekufa when we had a government, everyone went to the army and learning was not an exenption. Devora in her "shira" mentions that Sheve Yisaaachar fought along side her, and even the leviiim in a defensive war, had to fight! '
That's why they don't teach them the other 24 seforim of the Torah!

I don't have to beg anyone to learn, all the Batedi Misrashim in Bet Shemesh where I live are all packed with people learning. no one was arrested for learning! But if you are a jlub that is eligible to go and serve, you had better join the army! Those eligible are a small window between the ages of 18-25, the rest are sitting and learning!

lol. What I'm saying is that before you come out against the people learning Torah come out against the people playing soccer. And it's obvious that you have no rebuttal to the rest of my post and that is why you ignored it. if it would look like devorahs army i.e people who the torah says about them that they didnt even commit the smallest of sins then the conversation could start. until then...

The learners 18-25 are soldiers of Hashem. Ever heard of Him?

We are ALL "soldiers of Hashem." However, 18-25 need to enlist in the IDF !

Get a load of 1:27 who is comparing those learning Torah to Soccer players!
I'm not going to debate your stupid post, this is not freedom of speech go peddle your garbage in YeshivaWorld
The notion that the army by Devorah "didnt even commit the smallest of sins" shows that you have never in your life opened a Tanach and you have the gall to debate me! There was never such a thing except in Moshe's army, but that doesn't stop your RY from feeding you half-truths and whole lies!
