It's a classic After School Special TV show plot - the geeky kid gets invited to a party or sporting event because the organizers insist everyone in the class has to be invited. The rest of the class doesn't want him there. They either ignore him, mock him or bully him. He tries to stick around but it just gets worse. Then suddenly something happens that needs emergency attention, like one of the cool kids chokes on something, and the geeky kid does the Heimlich and saves his life. Suddenly all the kids say "Well we guess he's a great guy after all" and become friends with him." That's on TV. In real life, they shrug, grudgingly says thank you and then go back to mocking and bullying the geeky kid as if nothing happened. That's Israel at the Olympics.
