Nevada man becomes first in US to contract coronavirus twice

A 25-year-old Nevada man has become the first confirmed case of a person being re-infected with the coronavirus in the US, researchers said Monday.

The patient was infected with two different genetic strains of COVID-19 in less than two months, according to a case study published in the medical journal “The Lancet.”

“The second infection was symptomatically more severe than the first,” the authors of the study wrote.

The man, who had no underlying conditions, originally tested positive for the virus on April 18, and experienced symptoms including headache, coughing, nausea and diarrhea.

He isolated, got better and then tested negative twice in May.

But by the end of that month, the man went to an urgent care center with the same symptoms he’d felt before, plus fever and dizziness.

He tested positive again on June 5.

The patient was admitted to the hospital after suffering shortness of breath and requiring supplemental oxygen. He eventually recovered.

The fact that the man tested negative twice in between bouts with the illness means it’s unlikely he suffered one prolonged infection, according to the study authors.

The researchers said the case indicates that being exposed to the bug previously doesn’t completely guarantee immunity in all cases.

“All individuals, whether previously diagnosed with COVID-19 or not, should take identical precautions to avoid infection with SARS-CoV-2,” the scientists wrote.

Previous case studies of similar coronavirus re-infections have been published in Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ecuador.

Rabbi Poupko who is head of YU's Wilf Torah Journal called the Agudah Fressers to ask them why no attempts were made to stop Tischler & his merry men rioting in Boro Park all week, and why not even one word of condemnation was uttered.

The Fressers immediately mach avek any achrayus from themselves by pretending it is only "15 year old kids" who are "not any more mature than Modern Orthodox or frey 15 year olds" (!)

So the Fressers deny there were 100s if not 1000s of adult men in the rabble. And the Fressers act as though the horde of yeshiva bochurim ranging in age from 9 until 18 are completely autonomous, there is no sway on them even through their yeshivos who zicher, at least officially, do not allow these kinds of public destructive displays of behavior.

The Fressers missed their calling in life to act on Broadway. They were encouraging Tischler as their proxy for months, backed up by Fresser associates Eichenstein, Felder, Yeger & even fairweather associate Duvid Niederman, who while all smiles followed Tischler around as valets for his burglar tools, on his campaign of anarchy & destroying government property with bolt cutters.

And 'good' to know that the Fressers are koifer in the din Shulchan Aruch that rabbonim are mechuyev to appoint shoitrim on Chol Hamoed to ensure that bochurim are not misbehaving while having too much free time on their hands!

Furious Melbourne locals engaged in a heated row with a group of orthodox Jews & accused them of breaking lockdown laws.

Footage showed worshippers, believed to be Satmar Hasidic, leaving Adass Israel, on Saturday night.

The 2 groups were screaming at each other & a clip shows the cameraman pointing at a large group of worshippers flooding the street.

'All of these people & 50 more were in this school,' he said.

The video of people 'pouring out' of the building was shared to Twitter. Shouting & screaming is heard in the background.

A 2nd clip shows worshippers together on the street in Elsternwick before a man began to chase cameraman.

'These people are breaking corona rules & they're trying to attack me... they're trying to attack me,' he said.

The Jewish man then screamed in a woman's face & she labelled him 'disgraceful'.

'You're a member of society,' she yelled.

The cameraman screamed for the worshipper to 'get out of her face' before the man approached him.

'Get out of my face,' both men screamed at each other.

One of the men who recorded the clash, Benjamin, said the arguments almost turned violent.

'People from the mass gathering were very aggressive & coming very close to people's faces. Not distancing at all,' he told 3AW.

'Over the past days & nights there's been these mass gatherings happening across the road & several residents were out there.

'We want to document it to show police & the government what's going on,' he explained.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia they attended Elsternwick on Saturday following reports of alleged breaches of Chief Health Officer directions.

Police said no breaches were identified.

Melbourne remains under strict Stage 4 lockdown & people can only gather in maximum groups of 5, from 2 households.

Residents are permitted to exercise outdoors for up to 2 hours a day & must remain within 5 kilometre of home.

Religious gatherings can occur outside with up to 5 people.

The Rebbe told all his Chassidim to get sick but when he gets sick he gets Davos style medical concierge with an ICU built into his bedroom that 99.9% of his chassidim could never afford.

Heshy Tischler's lawyer Mindy Meyer-Kessner aka the Magenta Yenta of Flatbush

They have a lot in common. Not much common sense & when they run for public office they get 3% or less of the vote

Interesting she also works for YTT guy Shulky Greenwald at Riverside Abstract.

'We might appear a little ditzy, but we're fighters': Self-styled 'Barbie lawyers' who defend murderers, rapists & cartel members

Criminal defense attorneys Sara Shulevitz & Mindy Meyer are super glam
Work for Meyer Kessner & Shulevitz Law Group and are known for style

The world of criminal law is a gritty place.

But 2 Orthodox Jewish women are shocking the hallowed halls - dressed head to toe in matching pink outfits as self-proclaimed 'Barbie lawyers'.

Criminal defense attorneys Sara Shulevitz, 40, and Mindy Meyer, 26, of Meyer Kessner & Shulevitz Law Group are known in Miami & New York law circles for their outlandish style.

Sara said: 'At first glance we might appear a little ditzy'

Mindy added: 'I always loved Barbie, the glitz, glamour, sparkles & jazz - so we decided to bring that to the courtroom.'

The duo represent defendants accused of murders, rapes & even members of Colombian cartels.

Mindy said: 'We won't take on a client that asks us to do things that are illegal.'

Orthodox Jewish women practicing criminal law is a rarity and Sara & Mindy bond over their shared heritage.

Sara is the daughter of a rabbi & grew up on the Upper East Side.

She said: 'Both of us come from ultra-Orthodox homes & it was expected that an Orthodox woman gets married at 18 & have 10 children.

'I was in an arranged marriage at 18 & it didn't work out. So I went to school.

'I was already practicing when Legally Blonde came out & I think they copied me with the pink resume.

'I used to have pink, scented business cards I threw into prison cells. My clients love it.'

'I started as attorney in my 20s & people just think you're an idiot.

'When I switched to be a defense lawyer, one of the hardest things was being taken seriously.

'In a case I tried where my client faced 15 years, I got an acquittal.

'The next day, a male attorney said, 'who did you sleep with in the jury to get that result?'

Mindy grew up in Brooklyn & is married with a daughter, never envisioned a traditional Orthodox future for herself.

She said: 'I always had a fascination with criminals & I always knew I wasn't going to be in the kitchen all day.'

As well as a love of everything pink, they share passion for high-fashion, in particular Christian Louboutin (famous for $3000 shoes popular in 5 Towns).

They say their look represents 'new feminism' & they don't need to 'act like men'.

But their decision to bring glamour into the courtroom can be met with mixed emotion.

The Government Can’t Save Ultra-Orthodox Jews From COVID. Religious Leaders Can.

The virus hit Haredim hard, but without clear directives from rabbis, communities from Jerusalem to New York will suffer.

BY DAVID ROSENBERG

By every measure, Israel’s war against the corona pandemic is a miserable failure. Last month, it was the 1st country in the world to go to a 2nd lockdown, just 4 months after the 1st ended. In recent weeks, it has the highest rate of deaths per capita in the world. Crisis management's beset by petty politics, for which Prime Minister Netanyahu deserves most of the blame.

There’s another factor behind Israel’s stunning failure: Haredi Jews at 12%, account for 40% new infections.

New York is another large Haredi area hit hard. In Kiryas Joel, infections are at 28%, compared to 1% statewide.

To address the problem is enmeshed in politics. Never liked by Israel’s secular majority, Haredim are a whipping boy in the media, which regales with videos of mass confrontations with police.

Haredi leaders & apologists say they're unfairly singled out. Many claim anti-Semitism. More reasonably, they say keeping the virus under control is more difficult for them than others.

They have a point. Haredim live in crowded conditions & have less information. But unlike any other impoverished, undereducated minority, Haredim consciously chose this way of life. It undercuts the argument they're blameless victims.

Much Haredi life revolves around schools, study halls, prayer in shuls & mass weddings.

Haredim are loath to give any of it up even though these activities act as virus hothouses. Even as intense observance makes them especially vulnerable to COVID, Haredim share the same distrust & resistance of nonbelievers as fundamentalist Xtians.

Threat of death should be a powerful force, but Haredi leaders live in fear of follower observance slacking off. If prayer, study & mass gatherings is halted for even a few weeks, no one can predict the consequences. A study estimates 15% of young Haredim leave.

Outsiders, be they secular Israel or NYC, are seen as hellbent on disrupting age old Jewish life.

Given the insularity, it’s not hard for Haredim to frame the pandemic as a dispute of us vs them, instead of a public health challenge of everyone vs the virus.

US Haredim increasingly mimic Israelis. In Israel, a life of learning is enabled by govt subsidies. It doesn’t lift them out of poverty, but it does keep them afloat.

US Haredi schools deprive the young of basic skills for jobs. A study estimated young Haredi boys get 6 hours a week of English-math & even that paltry education ends at 13.

It threatens sustainability of US Haredim. In Israel, Haredi learners impose dangerous weight on the economy. 52% poverty for Israeli Haredim vs 21% nationwide. By denying youth general ed, Haredim trap them in perpetual study or low pay work to contribute little to household income.

The problem grows more severe as Haredi birthrates are forecast to increase their share of population to 33% by 2065. By then, the high-tech economy will have long faded for lack of human capital. More Haredim work today than a few years ago but at the bottom of the pay ladder.

Haredim keep change at bay as they hold power in Israeli parliament. Israel's virus czar proposed curfews on the most infected towns, nearly all Haredi. Haredi politicians threatened not to support Netanyahu & he backed down. The result is the entire country in lockdown.

Israel’s only hope is change will arise from in the Haredi world. In a closed community, change won’t come easy, but the toll of sickness & death may be the catalyst.
