Joe Biden in September: I will Not Declare Victory Until the Election Is Independently Certified

 During the first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Chris Wallace of Fox News asked Biden if he would “pledge not to declare victory until the election is independently certified,” to which the former vice president answered, “yes.”

“Will you urge your supporters to stay calm while the vote is counted, and will you pledge not to declare victory until the election is independently certified?” asked Wallace of Biden at the first presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio.

“And here’s the deal. We’ll count the ballots. As you pointed out, some of these ballots in some states can’t even be opened until Election Day, and if there’s thousands of ballots, it’s going to take time to do it,” added the former vice president.

Biden, however, has done nothing of the sort, as he has since carried on as if he is president-elect, promising that “we’re going to get right to work,” as he seemingly ignores the fact that the 2020 presidential election has not yet been independently certified.

The former vice president has also since urged all Americans to “wear a mask,” insisting that the “election is over.”

“The election is over,” Biden claimed. “I won’t be president until January 20, but my message today is to everyone — it doesn’t matter who you voted… we can save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months.”

Biden ended up delivering his victory speech on Saturday night, four days after the election.

Meanwhile, the 2020 presidential election has yet to be certified, as members of President Trump’s administration maintain that the president may actually be reelected.

 Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday hailed Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Secretary-General Saeb Erekat as "a man of peace, a man of honor".

Erekat died on Tuesday at the age of 65 from COVID-19. He had been treated in an Israeli hospital in recent weeks.

Speaking to i24NEWS, Olmert, who negotiated with the Palestinian Authority in 2008, said Erekat "was anxious to resolve the historical conflict between Israel and the Palestinians with a peace agreement."

Saying that negotiating with Erekat was not easy, Olmert asserted that "we were very close to achieving peace in 2008, when I negotiated on behalf of Israel, and Mahmoud Abbas and Saeb Erekat negotiated on behalf of the Palestinians."

He stressed that Erekat had nothing to do with the fact that the talks ended up bearing little fruit, pointing at PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas as the one who was supposed to make the ultimate decision.

Olmert argued that Erekat represented the Palestinian Arabs in "a much more moderate manner than many others," saying he had agreed to a demilitarized Palestinian state, one that would have no army -- only the law enforcement agencies.

Erekat was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem last month, after he was infected with the coronavirus.

A survivor of pulmonary fibrosis, Erekat was at elevated risk for the coronavirus, and was listed in serious condition when he was admitted to the hospital.

Rev Raphael Warnock is running to replace Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to the seat after Johnny Isakson resigned. A special election will be held Jan 5 & is expected to be closely contested. 

Warnock gave a speech as pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, King’s old congregation. 

In the speech, Warnock lamented the “tough week” in which the US opened its embassy in Jerusalem as Palestinians in Gaza marched to the border in protest. 

“Standing there were the president’s family & a few mealy-mouthed evangelical preachers who are responsible for the mess we find ourselves in, both there & here — misquoting & misinterpreting Scripture, talking peace.

” “Meanwhile, young Palestinian sisters & brothers, who struggle for their very lives, for water & for their human dignity stood up in non-violent (sic) protest, saying, ‘If we’re gonna die, we’re gonna die strugglin’ And yes, there've been some folk who were violent, but we oughta know how that works out. We know what it’s like to stand up peacefully & have the media focus on a few violent uprisings. But you have to look at those Palestinian sisters & brothers, who struggle for their human dignity & have a right to self-determination, a right to breathe free.” “We need a two-state solution,” 

Warnock continued. 

“We saw Israel shoot down unarmed Palestinian sisters & brothers like birds of prey.” “It's wrong to shoot down God’s children like they don’t matter at all. It’s no more anti-Semitic for me to say that than it's anti-white for me to say Black lives matter. Palestinian lives matter.” 

Asked for comment on the video, Warnock’s campaign told Jewish Insider that its opponents were “going thru 1000s of hours of footage trying to find a way to misrepresent who Reverend Warnock is & scare Georgians.” 

In the op-ed, Warnock acknowledged he's “deeply concerned about settlements,” calling it a “threat to the two-state solution.” He vowed to advocate for Palestinians as senator, “because I want to see a Palestinian state.” 

The sermon resurfaced days after a letter he signed in 2019 likening Israeli control of the West Bank to “previous oppressive regimes” was picked up by Jewish Insider. 

Published by the National Council of Churches, says Israel’s “heavy militarization of the West Bank is reminiscent of military occupation of Namibia by apartheid South Africa.” “We felt Palestinian fear that gives rise to a paradoxical combination of despair & hopeful resolve in a grinding & dehumanizing existence,” the letter read.

 In his op-ed, Warnock rejects accusations he likened Israel to South Africa. Warnock’s opponent, Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler, accused the reverend of having “a long history of anti-Israel extremism.” “He embraced anti-Zionist Black Lives Matter. And he thinks Israel is an ‘oppressive regime’ for fighting back against terrorism,” she tweeted.

Pompeo: There will be a transition... to our second Trump Administration

 US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters Tuesday that "there will be a smooth transition to our second Trump administration" despite current election results showing Joe Biden as the winner.

Pompeo's declaration follows his authorization for Justice Department prosecutors to investigate "voting irregularities" in last week's election.

"We're going to count all the votes. When the process is complete, there'll be electors selected. There's a process. The constitution lays it out pretty clearly," Pompeo said Tuesday.

The Trump Administration has filed lawsuits in several states where Joe Biden narrowly won alleging large-scale voter fraud which tipped the election in Biden's favor.

“The Democratic Truce is Over” declared a Tuesday headline in the Atlantic, with author Elaine Godfrey describing power grabs where Biden comes off as a figure head.

The disputes are shaped in large part by the blue wave that didn’t happen, leaving a tough landscape in congress. Dems will hold a very small House majority and the GOP likely retains Senate control, meaning much of Biden’s agenda will be whittled down or killed.

That, of course, will make the combatants nastier to each other, which recalls a great LBJ story, as told by Joseph Califano Jr.

In his book, “The Triumph and Tragedy of Lyndon Johnson,” Califano writes that the president was frustrated by the refusal of liberals to back his plans. Talking to Oval Office visitors one day, Johnson suddenly asked if they knew the difference between liberals and cannibals.

Getting silence, he declared, “Cannibals eat only their enemies.”

New Study Reveals that Restaurants, Gyms and Shuls Account for 80% of the Spreading of COVID-19

 

Most COVID-19 cases in large US cities stem from visits to just a few types of places, a new study suggests.

Restaurants, gyms, hotels and houses of worship are among the 10 percent of locations that would appear to account for 80 percent of the infections, according to research published in the journal Nature on Tuesday.

“These are places that are smaller, more crowded, and people dwell there longer,” said study co-author and Stanford University Professor Jure Leskovec at a media briefing on the research, CNN reported.

Reducing the establishments’ capacity to 20 percent, as opposed to shutting them down entirely, could curb transmissions by 80 percent, the prof said.

“Our work highlights that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing,” Leskovec said.

In an attempt to combat modernization creeping into his community, the Admor of Toldos Aharon has recently requested that his chasidim change their glasses to plastic frames. The unusual request was made when chasidim came to see their rebbe during the festival period.

Toldos Aharon chasidim say that this is a surprising and unprecedented step taken by the Admor, who does not generally involve himself in matters of dress and does not make requests on this issue from his chasidim.

However the chasidim have complied with the request and hundreds changed their glasses in order to follow the rebbe’s request. The chasidim report that there is also a special campaign within the community to try and prevent as much as is possible watching video clips sent through e-mail and to abstain as far as possible from using technological devices unnecessarily. Even those who require such means for a living were called on to prevent their children from exposure to modern technology and to install special software to prevent them from seeing video content.

It should be noted that in many chasidic communities plastic glasses are considered the norm, including Gur, Belz and Vizhnitz.

Saeb Erekat of the Palestine Liberation Org Dropped Dead in Hadassah Ein Kerem

 

Saeb Erekat, the Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the top negotiator for the Palestinian Authority, died Tuesday morning. He was 65.

"Saeb Erekat passed away in the hospital's intensive care unit," Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital said in a statement Tuesday.

"Mr. Erekat, who was transferred to the hospital three weeks ago Sunday, on 18 October, was a lung transplantee infected with coronavirus. He was treated in his home in Jericho and arrived at the hospital in critical condition, requiring immediate ventilation and resuscitation treatments."

"During the course of his hospitalization, he received intensive treatments that included a heart lung machine (ECMO) and drug treatments provided by Hadassah's top specialists."

"Unfortunately, his condition did not improve and remained critical, and he passed away following multi-organ failure."

Erekat was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem last month, after he was infected with the coronavirus.

John McCain's widow Cindy joins "The Swamp" advisory board of Joe Biden's transition team

 The widow of late Republican senator John McCain, who is the one who delivered the notorious fake "Steele Report" to congress,  has joined the transition team of incoming Democrat president-elect Joe Biden.

Cindy McCain is taking on an advisory board role for Biden's transition team, which will help usher the former vice president into the Oval Office in the next two and a half months, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Senator John McCain served in Congress for decades and ran for president in 2008, when he lost to Barack Obama.  Biden was the vice president on the Obama ticket. 

In an interview with Good Morning America after Biden's victory, Cindy celebrated the election results and told Republicans: 'It’s time not just for Americans to get together and work together, but most importantly, it’s time that we Republicans put country first, not party.'

She also requested Trump concede to Biden in a 'gracious manner' like her late husband did upon his 2008 election defeat.

Trump has refused to concede, and has insisted, without evidence, that Democrats have tried to steal the election with rampant voter fraud. 

Cindy McCain is the second Republican to join the transition team, following in the footsteps of Bob McDonald, who also served as the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for several years under Obama.

McCain will advise the transition team on issues facing women and children, according to the New York Post.

The advisory board has already met once and will meet again some time in the next few weeks. 

McCain's inclusion on the transition team marks the continuation of an alliance between her and Biden.

She was one of the most outspoken Republicans to endorse Biden in his race against incumbent Republican Donald Trump.

'My husband John lived by a code: country first. We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost. There’s only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is @JoeBiden,' McCain stated in her Twitter endorsement in September.

She also participated in the Democratic National Convention in August, where she lauded the positive relationship between her late husband and Biden.

Watch: Fox News in "new low" cuts away from Trump press conference

 Fox News on Monday cut away from a Trump campaign press conference outlining its allegations of election fraud in the presidential election.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany began her press conference by saying Democrats were the only party opposing voter ID, verifying signatures, citizenship, residency, eligibility, and trying to keep observers out of the count room.

“You take these positions because you are welcoming fraud and you are welcoming illegal voting,” she said just before Fox News cut away.

Host Neil Cavuto then said, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. I just think we have to be very clear: she's charging the other side as welcoming fraud and illegal voting, unless she has more details to back that up, I can't in good countenance continue to show you this.”

Cavuto said the network would return to the press conference if evidence was presented to substantiate the claims.

“But that’s an explosive charge to make, that the other side is effectively rigging and cheating, if she does bring proof of that of course we’ll take you back so far she has started saying, right at the outset, welcoming fraud, welcoming illegal voting,” Cavuto said.
