President Trump on Tuesday granted clemency to 20 convicted felons — including pardons for two men who lied to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators, the White House said.
The pre-Christmas blitz of forgiveness also included pardons for two former members of Congress and a commuted sentence for a third.
Pardons also went to four military contractors convicted in the massacre of 17 Iraqi civilians in 2007 and two former Border Patrol agents who covered up the shooting of an unarmed illegal immigrant.
Several people convicted of non-violent drug crimes, including some serving lengthy sentences, received pardons or commutations.
In all, Trump handed out 15 pardons and five commutations, the White House said.
The Mueller-related pardons of George Papadopoulos, a 2016 Trump campaign aide, and Alex van der Zwaan, a Dutch lawyer, brought to four the number of people the president has granted clemency in connection with the Russia probe, which he repeatedly labeled a political “witch hunt.”
Last month, Trump pardoned former national security adviser Michael Flynn for lying to the FBI and he earlier commuted the sentence of former 2016 campaign adviser Roger Stone, just days before the start of his prison sentence.

Less than 24 hours after the compromise between the Likud and Blue and White failed to pass in the Knesset, the 23rd Knesset officially dissolved on Tuesday at midnight after a short tenure.
The 23rd Knesset was sworn in on March 16, 2020 and served a little less than a year and a month, after the budget law for 2020 was not approved even following an extension decided upon as part of the so-called "Hauser compromise".
Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin said shortly before the Knesset officially dissolved, "At midnight, the mandate ends, and since the state budget for 2020 has not been approved, I announce the dissolution of the 23rd Knesset. We are in a complex and challenging period, yet one of many controversies. The controversy that exists in the public was naturally expressed here in this building as well."
"We are embarking on a difficult election campaign. I call on each and every one of us, and each and every one of the citizens of Israel, to refrain from escalating tensions and to do everything possible so that the election campaign is conducted and ended in an orderly manner and without violence," he continued.
"I thank all the members of the Knesset, the Knesset management and the Knesset staff for the great effort to maintain a parliamentary routine under the complicated conditions of this challenging period," Levin concluded.
The outgoing Knesset saw the continuation of the political crisis that caused each of the two Knessets that preceded it to serve for less than six months, and the election campaign that ends its tenure is the fourth election in less than two years in Israel.
During the current Knesset, a new government was formed, the 35th government and the fifth government headed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, but since its inception, the government has not been able to function properly.
The current government was formed as a rotating government headed by Netanyahu and Benny Gantz in a special procedure, in accordance with an amendment to the Basic Law of the Government that was enacted specifically for its establishment, and was supposed to prevent a situation where one party tries to violate the agreement.
However, the law is worded in such a way that it has one loophole left, which concerns a situation in which the state budget is not approved, and it is this loophole that allowed Netanyahu to bring about a situation in which the Knesset dissolves and, despite this, the premiership does not pass to Gantz.
The elections to the 24th Knesset will take place, unless it is decided otherwise in the coming days, on March 23, 2021.

In the often sheltered and inaccessible Hasidic communities, sordid political intrigue lives cheek-by-jowl with spiritual loftiness and religious devoutness. Fascinating tensions in this throwback world are frequently bound up in the succession of leadership among the Hasidic groups, or courts, which can coalesce, fracture, and reform around the expansive family tree of prominent Hasidic dynasties.
“The death of a Rebbe is a wrenching experience for the [Hasidic] court and for each of the Rebbe’s followers. To prevent the dissolution of the court a new leader must be named. The Rebbe’s sons are the first to be considered in the line of succession to become Rebbe,” wrote Jerome Mintz, anthropology professor and author of a groundbreaking 1992 study on the Hasidic world called Hasidic People. And while one son customarily takes over the mantle left behind by his father, as Mintz notes, the other sons are likely to disperse to lead entirely new courts set up for a rival group of devotees. In this passing of the court from one generation to the next, there is ample room for dynastic drama.

Peter Jackson got it back.
The “Lord of the Rings” director has been sifting through 56 hours of previously unseen footage of The Beatles rehearsing and horsing around from their final months playing together. Those moments led up to their infamous concert on the rooftop of Apple Corps headquarters on Savile Row in January 1969.
On the heels of the 40th anniversary of John Lennon’s assassination, Jackson is giving fans a “sneaky preview,” as he called it, of the film “The Beatles: Get Back.”
The unearthed footage was salvaged from Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s long-lost “Let It Be,” a 1970 television documentary charting the squabbles and tension in the lead-up to the band’s final album and concert, to lukewarm reception.
Rumor has it band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr blocked the release of the doc, complaining that it featured frontman John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, too prominently.
But Jackson’s installment in the band’s final chapter is expected to be less contentious. The 59-year-old is in the process of editing in New Zealand.
“This film was due to be finished ’round about now,” said Jackson, who was forced to push back production due to COVID-19. He calls the footage “great stuff” and presents fans with a montage to get a “sense of the spirit” and the “vibe and the energy that the film’s going to have.”
Fans are treated to about four minutes of good-natured footage of the band.
“And now, your host for this evening, the Bottles,” jokes a long-haired John Lennon in one cut. In another, the British bandmates read aloud from a newspaper column about George Harrison facing jail time in France. McCartney’s wife Linda Eastman and daughter Mary, plus Ono, and fashionable sets of groupies, producers and executives feature as the rock stars play.
The fast-paced supercut serves as prelude to the film that Jackson promises sometime in 2021. Official trailers will be out next year too. For now, fans will have to be content with Jackson’s “montage of moments.”
“Hopefully it will put a smile on your face in these rather bleak times that we’re in.”

More than 1,500 trucks were stranded in England on Tuesday morning amid fears that Britain could face food shortages if travel restrictions put in place to slow the spread of a new strain of the coronavirus aren’t lifted soon.
Dozens of countries around the world have slapped tough travel curbs on the U.K. in recent days: From Canada to India, nations banned flights from Britain, while France barred the entry of trucks from the country for 48 hours from late Sunday while the strain is assessed.
Home Secretary Priti Patel told BBC radio that the British government is “speaking constantly” with France to achieve a swift resolution in order to get freight moving again. In the meantime, trucks were piling up in Kent, the county in southeast England that is home to some of the most popular cross-Channel ports.

Rabbi David Lau (r) and MK Yitzhak Pindros (l) get vaccinated |
At the beginning of his weekly video Torah lesson, Rabbi Asher Weiss let his viewers know he was about to broach a contentious topic.
“I know that not everybody will like what I say,” said Weiss, a leading Orthodox Jewish legal authority in Israel with a large following in the United States, peppering Hebrew terms into his speech. “But if I won’t speak my mind I think it would be a sin.”
The sensitive subject of his lesson?
The COVID-19 vaccine. After an hourlong class packed with rabbinic sources, Weiss gave his verdict: “When we deal with the question [of whether] to take the vaccine: Yes. Definitely yes.
“Every new medicine or medical procedure might have long-term effects, but we always try to strike the right balance between what is needed now and what might, theoretically, happen in the future,” he said. “People are dying, people are suffering, and we could alleviate this pain, and diminish the suffering and save many people. This is a safe vaccine as far as we could know.”
Weiss’ lesson echoes what medical and rabbinic authorities across the Orthodox world are saying as the COVID-19 vaccine begins to become available. Virtually all Orthodox leaders are encouraging their communities to trust the medical consensus and take the vaccine when it becomes available, and in Israel, many are already publicly sharing their own vaccinations.
Yet Orthodox health professionals and communal leaders do worry that a vocal minority of their community won’t heed their guidance. They point to skepticism regarding the vaccine in the overall population because of anti-vaccine sentiments — in the past expressed by some leading Orthodox rabbis — as well as nervousness with the speed at which the vaccines were developed and the politicization of the virus.

Another day, another tragedy, this time in Beitar Illit, where a 44-year-old man, Rabbi Pinchas Daniel, collapsed on Monday night during a wedding and passed away.
Rabbi Daniel was a well-known figure in Beitar Illit and also in nearby Beit Shemesh and Jerusalem, where he taught classes in boys’ elementary and high schools. He had been participating in the wedding of one of the members of the kollel in which he learned when the tragedy occurred, Behadrey Haredim reports.
During the wedding, he suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious. United Hatzalah paramedics rushed to his aid and immediately began resuscitation attempts which continued as he was transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem; however, they were unsuccessful and his death was determined.
Rabbi Daniel belonged to the Heichal Ovadya community in Beitar, and those who knew him described him as a “special person, a learned man who was immersed in Torah and Jewish law, beloved by others and always looking to help others in whatever way he could.”
Rabbi Pinchas Daniel is outlived by his father, a teacher in the Hazon Ovadya yeshiva, and by his wife and seven young children.
The funeral is set for Tuesday at half past twelve and will leave from the plaza outside the Herzog hospital in Jerusalem to Har Hemenuchot.

He says that the "government of Israel doesn't care about people" He is talking about a government that sends its doctors all over the world to save people... the government that sent the IDF to rescue Jews ... not Israelis... Jews .. to Ethiopia during the Entebbe raid... this government that fought and died for this guy ...
he says that his "Drops" saved over 30,000 people...
This guy is delusional and dangerous ... and spews out right lies ... he falsely claims that you need 10 people to get married ..and that the government wouldn't allow even 10... al pi halacha if you have two witnesses when giving your bride a ring ... you are married and if you want out you need a divorce.
Then he brings a story that he sat with Rav Eliyashiv for 2 hours and that Rav Eliyashiv couldn't understand why someone would take a vaccine that wasn't out at least three years on the market ...
This "Story" makes absolutely no sense on so many levels... First of all it's hard to believe that Rav Elyashiv would sit and chat with someone for "two hours" especially with this guy .... second of all there was no pandemic of this magnitude in Israel where people are dying like flies and therefore Rav Eliyashiv if he said that and I doubt that he did, wasn't talking about Covid-19 ...
During his final shiur on Chanukah, Rabbi Yosef Dovid Teitelbaum, otherwise known as the Sassover Rebber, raised a number of tough questions with regard to the distribution of the Coronavirus vaccinations that are now being administered in Israel and other countries.
“It is not easy for me to say this. I thought a lot about whether to speak and I know I will be criticized for it. The Gedolim have stated their opinion regarding vaccinations and I am like dust before them but even dust can say its opinion.”
“I had the good fortune to be partly responsible for saving the lives of 30,000 people who received the Matan Chaim drops. I gave these drops in America as well. People who were willing to commit the folly of going to the hospital where nobody recovered, I begged them not to go and gave them Matan Chaim drops and they recovered.”
The Rebbe went on to attack many members of the medical society. “The doctors are murderers since they don’t permit the use of the drops and these murderers are now telling us to take the vaccine. I don’t know, maybe it’s a good vaccine but we don’t know. When will we know? When there is harm? Already now they are saying that people with allergies can’t take it, as it is a live virus being injected into the body.”
The Rebbe then begged forgiveness from those who have different opinions. “With all due respect to those Askanim who went and researched the issue and then went to the Gedolim and obtained their signatures allowing for their followers to take the vaccines, I’m not talking about them since they have their interests and can help people. But to those who ask me, I tell them to care for their own lives and not take the vaccine.”
The Rebbe then sharply attacked the Israeli government for the way it has managed the pandemic. “Life is worthless in the eyes of the government. Only commerce is permitted. Prayer and shuls are forbidden, weddings are prohibited, one couldn’t even marry in a minyan this year, since they wanted ‘to cause us to forget Your Torah.’ There was never such an edict prohibiting weddings. The miracle took place that the police were too lazy to enforce it. These are the people who are supposed to save lives? These are the Greeks and the Hellenists. We have Torah sages. When it comes to matters regarding issues of life and death, we need a Sanhedrin. We cannot suffice with a proclamation by Askanim who took their research to the Gedolim.”
I sat with Rabbi Elyashiv in 1980, and we discussed a medical matter for more than two hours. At the end of our deliberation, Rabbi Elyashiv said: How can one take responsibility for a product that has only been on the market for a year or two? How are we to know that it won’t cause harm later? How can we permit a person to let such a thing enter one’s body? Perhaps we could allow it if the item was on the market for such a short time and the entire world checked it, not just a few companies.”

The same liberal rag that just honored Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as it’s “Person(s) of the Year” instead of maybe, the front-line medical professionals who have been working tirelessly on the pandemic, or G-d forbid President Trump for his stewardship over Operation Warp Speed has hit a new low.
TIME Magazine actually did a hit piece on Helen Keller, declaring her to be “just another privileged white person.”
For those not well versed, Helen Keller was the victim of an undiagnosed illness which rendered her blind and deaf by the age of 19 months old.
Despite all the odds facing her, and in spite of her disabilities and the lack of resources at that time, she raised millions of dollars for the disabled, according to The Blaze.
She also published 12 books and was a leading proponent in the fight for women’s suffrage and rights of disabled Americans.
Keller graduated from Radcliffe College, now known as Harvard University and was the co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Keller was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor available to average Americans. All of those accomplishments were apparently not good enough for Time.
A woman named Anita Cameron spoke of Keller, claiming that Keller was not radical, but rather was “just another, despite disabilities, privileged white person,’ calling her story “another example of history telling the story of privileged white Americans.” Wow.
Anita Cameron |
Cameron describes herself as a “fierce black autistic lesbian.” She’s apparently into all the woke labels. She is also a member of the American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today organization, her Twitter profile notes, and of course she’s displaying the heretofore unknown “Black Disabled Lives Matter” banner.
It was that comment that got TIME attention it probably did not want.
Keller clearly had some less than mainstream, ostensibly radical views. For example, TIME noted, “Critics of Helen Keller cite her writings that reflected the popularity of now-dated eugenics theories and her friendship with one of the movement’s supporters Alexander Graham Bell,” TIME said. However TIME added that, “The American Foundation for the Blind archivist Helen Selsdon says Keller ‘moved away from that position.’”
TIME sought to emphasize Keller’s more socialist and radical left-wing ideology as she moved from childhood to an adult.
TIME said most students who learn about Keller “don’t learn that she co-founded the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920; that she was an early supporter of the NAACP, and an opponent of lynching; that she was an early proponent of birth control.”
Call us crazy but those positions don’t sound all that radical compared to the radicals pervasive in America today, and in fact indicate Keller would be pretty comfortable at a support rally for Black Lives Matter. One would think liberals would be all over this.
In fact, Keller “was a member of the Socialist Party, and corresponded with Eugene Debs, the party’s most prominent member and a five-time presidential candidate,” TIME said. “She also read Marx, and her associations with all of these far-left groups landed her on the radar of the FBI, which monitored her for ties to the Communist Party.”

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu pushed Monday morning for a total ban on the entry of foreign nationals to Israel, citing recent outbreaks abroad of a fast-spreading strain of the coronavirus.
Speaking at the opening of a meeting of the Coronavirus Cabinet, Netanyahu said the government was keeping a close watch on developments abroad.
“This mutation is spreading across the world, and we’re looking into its significance.”
Netanyahu proposed reimposing the total ban on air travel into Israel, which was put into place earlier this year, following the first outbreak of the coronavirus.
If adopted, the travel ban would leave nearly all foreign nationals unable to enter Israel. Returning Israeli passport holders would still be permitted to enter the country.
Health Minister Yuli Edelstein (Likud) said that Israelis returning from abroad would be required to go into isolation and undergo testing, regardless of what country they had been staying in.
He added that there are no signs at present that the new mutation is resistant to the vaccines now being administered in Isarel.
"There is no evidence that this mutation is resistant to the vaccine."
But, Edelstein added, the infection rate in Israel has continued to rise, and hinted at new restrictions on public activity.
"The fact is that the infection rate is on the rise. In the Coronavirus Cabinet we will see what we as a government need to do in order to ensure that this [new] strain doesn't get to Israel."

The US dollar rallied somewhat against the shekel on Monday morning, hitting NIS 3.426 after plummeting to 3.23 on Friday. This marks the lowest point for the US currency since 1996.
The euro also dropped and was trading at 3.955 against the shekel.
The Bank of Israel has stepped up its acquisition of USD since November in an attempt to stem the decline in the demand for the dollar.
