Another Explosion reportedly damages power plant in Iran

Image from a video said to show a fire caused by an explosion at a power plant in Ahvaz, Iran, on July 4, 2020.

An explosion reportedly damaged a power plant in the Iranian city of Ahvaz on Saturday, the latest in a series of mysterious blasts in the country that prompted Iran to issue a warning to Israel and the US earlier this week.
Persian and Arabic media reported an explosion and fire at the Zargan power plant in Ahvaz in Iran’s southwest, near the Persian Gulf and the Iraqi border.
Videos posted online showed a column of smoke at the facility and workers filing past a fire truck.
Iran’s IRNA news agency later reported that the fire at the plant had been brought under control. It said the blaze was ignited when a transformer exploded.
Mohammad Hafezi, the power plant’s health and safety manager, told IRNA the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Trump was Right...Study: Hydroxychloroquine Helps Coronavirus Patients Survive

A new study reveals that the hydroxychloroquine doubled the survival rate of patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

Doctors at Henry Ford Health System in southeast Michigan said that 26% of patients who did not receive the antimalarial drug died, compared to 13% of patients who received hydroxychloroquine during their stay in the hospital.
The team published their findings in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, adding that patients who were given hydroxychloroquine alone did even better than the ones who received this drug along with azithromycin, according to CNN.
Other studies have shown no benefits of taking hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19, and some said that it may increase the risk for cardiovascular complications. President Donald Trump told reporters in May that he was taking the drug and called it a possible “game changer,” according to ABC News.
The Food and Drug Administration revoked its emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine on June 15, and trials around the world that were sponsored by the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health were stopped, according to CNN.
“Our results do differ from some other studies,” Dr. Marcus Zervos, division head of infectious diseases at Henry Ford, said. “What we think was important in ours is that patients were treated early. For hydroxychloroquine to have a benefit, it needs to begin before the patients begin to suffer some of the severe immune reactions that we have with COVID-19,” he added.
A French study published in Science Direct posted similar results. Researchers noted: “We believe there is an urgency to evaluate the effectiveness of this potentially life-saving therapeutic strategy at a larger scale.”

Actress Shira Haas Says Season 3 ‘Shtisel’ Script Brought Her to Tears

Shira Haas

Israeli actress and “Shtisel” star Shira Haas got emotional reading the script for the show’s third season, she revealed during a recent interview.
Ahead of filming season 3 of the series, which streams on Netflix, Haas, 25, told the Jewish Journal, “[It’s] an amazing season. Really powerful. I cried a few times when I read the script and I’m not usually a crier.”
“Shtisel” is about a fictional Haredi family who lives in the ultra-Orthodox Jerusalem neighborhood of Geula. Haas plays Ruchami Weiss, the teenage niece of the show’s lead character Akiva Shtisel, played by Michael Aloni.
It remains unclear when shooting will begin for the show, but a photo Haas shared on social media in June hinted at a potential July filming.
Haas also talked about the media buzz surrounded “Unorthodox,” a Netflix miniseries in which she starred as the lead character, and a potential Emmy nomination it might receive, as well as a nod for her portrayal of an ultra-Orthodox woman who escapes the confines of Brooklyn’s Satmar community.
Emmy Awards nominations are set to be revealed on July 28, and Haas commented, “I’m very grateful to be named in some predictions, but I’m living in the here and now.”
Before “Shtisel” or “Unorthodox,” Haas appeared in the 2018 drama “Broken Mirrors,” for which she earned a best actress nomination for the Israeli Film Academy’s Ophir Awards.
Haas is also starring in the upcoming mother-daughter Israeli drama “Asia,” which won three awards at the Tribeca Film Festival in May.

Israel Caused the Iranian Natanz 'accident'

Kuwait's Al-Jarida newspaper on Friday reported that Israel was responsible for a Thursday "accident" at an Iranian nuclear facility in Natanz.

It is believed that the Natanz facility is used to enrich uranium.

According to the Al-Jarida report, the explosion was caused by an "Israeli cyber attack" which targeted the computers which control the pressure gauges inside gas containers. Tehran has allegedly lost 80% of the uranium hexafluoride gas it needs in order to enrich uranium.

The report also claimed that Israel is responsible for the Parchin blast which occurred last week.

On Thursday, Iran's state news agency IRNA published an editorial warning that "if there are signs of hostile countries crossing Iran's red lines in any way, especially the Zionist regime (Israel) and the United States, Iran's strategy to confront the new situation must be fundamentally reconsidered.

Meanwhile, Tehran claims that the incident was caused by an "accident and fire," and has not linked it to Israel.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, said there had been no injuries and "no interruption to the work of the enrichment site itself."

Charaidie Ladies Refuse to Follow Rules At Maimonides Hospital Get Arrested.. call Police "Nazis"

The rules at Maimonides Hospital are "two visitors at a time," but these two ladies refused to follow the rules and the hospital first called security and when that didn't work they called police to remove them....
At the Police Station one of the ladies asks for a press conference to tell their story on  how they were treated at the Police Station...
I'm upset because she wanted it to appear on VOSIZNEIS ... and didn't mention DusIznies! You know what? I'll put her on my site anyway, since VIN totally ignored them; they think that two frum ladies in snoods making a huge Chillul Hashem in Boro-Park isn't news anymore.

Listen to her, as she calls police "Nazis" ....
the ladies look well fed to me, and it looks like they were free to leave the 66th precinct, unlike my grandparents that left thru the chimney.... someone should smack some sense into them!
I'm glad they were let out in time so they could finish making the kneidels for the chicken soup...

Harav Hutner and The Mufti of Jerusalem

First a brief background.....

Harav Yitzchok Hutner was best known for being the Rosh Yeshiva of Chaim Berlin.
He was born in Warsaw and his background was Chassidish (Gerer) and Litvish..and as a bachur he learned by Harav Nosson Tzvi Finkel in the Slabodka Yeshiva in Lithuania.

He later joined some of the bochrim of Slabodka to establish the Chevron Yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael and narrowly escaped the 1929 Chevron Massacre because he happened to be away for the weekend.

While in Eretz Yisrael he became very close to Harav Avraham Yitzchok Kook z"l ..and became his talmid .... when Rav Hutner was about to publish his sefer "Torat Ha'Nazir" he made sure to get a haskama from Harav Kook.

After the chevron pogrom, Rab Hutner returned to Warsaw and moved to Germany and studied philosophy at the University of Berlin... where he became close to two future rabbinical giants, Harav JB Soloveitchik and Rav Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the future Lubavitcher Rebbe....

There were rumors that Rav Hutner subsequently became a fierce opponent of Chabad, but that has been quashed since there are letters in existence today that show that he corresponded regularly with the Lubavitcher Rebbe  throughout his lifetime, seeking his views on a variety of halakhic, chassidic and kabbalistic subjects, and occasionally seeking his blessing. Harav Hutner also had several lengthy private audiences with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, during which they conversed for long periods of time, and that is all well documented.

Infect me: .......Keren, 29, volunteers to catch coronavirus to help end pandemic

Keren Pedersen
In Yiddish there is an expression:
"es fehlt nisht kein meshigaim" "there is no lack of crazy people" but you know what? Better her than me...
Fresh from graduating college, Keren Pedersen is gearing up for her next challenge: Exposure to the novel coronavirus.
She wants to introduce SARS-CoV-2 into her body, convinced that by doing so, she will help to speed up vaccine development. Pedersen, 29, who immigrated from the US to Israel as a child, thinks it will be a “very unpleasant process” but feels “passionate” about taking part.
She is one of 61 Israelis who have signed up for an international initiative gathering volunteers who are willing to test potential vaccines by receiving either shots or placebos and then being exposed to the virus in a controlled environment.

Israeli startup will test out '3-D printed steaks' in high-end restaurants

Trying to capitalize on the fast-growing global market for meat alternatives, an Israeli startup company has created a plant-based steak using a 3-D printer.

Redefine Meat announced Tuesday that it would begin testing its vegan steaks in high-end restaurants ahead of a more large-scale distribution.

The company makes what it calls Alt-Steak with industrial-scale 3-D food printers using its plant-based formulations. By printing with multiple materials, Redefine says it can create “sustainable, high-protein, no-cholesterol steaks that look, cook, and taste like beef.”

The product has a 95 percent smaller environmental impact than producing actual beef, the company says.

Redefine plans to sell its 3-D meat printers and alt-meat formulations to restaurants beginning in 2021. The restaurants can print steaks to be softer or harder, or juicier with less fat, for example.

The worldwide market for meat alternatives is expected to reach $140 billion annually, according to the company.

Redefine, based in Rehovot in central Israel, says on its website that its products “are designed to appeal to the world’s hundreds of millions of ‘flexitarians’ or ‘conscious carnivores’ who seek to reduce their meat consumption, often as part of their personal sustainability efforts.”

ADL aligning itself with Al Sharpton the Instigator of the Murder of Yankel Rosenbaum

by Josh Nass
As someone who has worked in media for the better part of the last decade, I've been quite disappointed at the way certain figures who have demonstrated themselves to be bigots with tremendous amounts of prejudice have been normalized.

None have been as effective in their bids for normalization and acceptance by mainstream society, as the "Reverend" Al Sharpton.
Besides for his maintenance of a considerable media presence on MSNBC and his hosting of his own program on the network, he is still routinely introduced on various programs as a "civil rights activist." Indeed, the accolades continue being sent his way, even given his troubling background.

Joe Biden calls TV reporter a 'lying dog face' after being asked if he has been tested for cognitive decline

Joe Biden snapped at a Fox News reporter who asked if he has been tested for 'cognitive decline', branding the man a 'lying dog face' during a press conference on Tuesday.
The presumptive Democratic nominee appeared to briefly lose his cool after he was questioned over his mental sharpness during a campaign event at a high school in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
As the press conference drew to a close, the reporter raised his hand to ask a final question, before being immediately interrupted by Biden who called him a 'lying dog face.'
The reporter then continued: 'I'm 65, I don't have the word recollection that I used to have, I forget my train of thought from time to time, you've got 12 years on me, sir -  have you been tested for some degree of cognitive decline?'
Biden, appearing annoyed, responded defensively, saying he is 'constantly tested'.
'All you gotta do is watch me and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against,' he said.
The former vice president's mental acuity and age has become the subject of media scrutiny and a target for President Trump and his campaign who have tried to push the narrative that Biden is the one who's addled.

2,500-year-old seals may show Jews rebuilding Jerusalem after 1st Temple exile

Rare evidence of when and how Jerusalem was resettled after the Babylonian exile of 586 BCE has been discovered in an excavation in the City of David, just outside the Old City walls.

The two recent discoveries in an ongoing excavation in the Givati parking lot — a clay “official” seal impression and a strange DIY pottery sherd seal with fake writing — help illuminate the enigma that is 6th century BCE Jerusalem history. There are only 10 other similar artifacts discovered in Israel that date to the Persian period (circa 536 BCE-333 BCE).
“The Persian period is a black hole in archaeology,” Israel Antiquities Authority’s Dr. Yiftah Shalev told The Times of Israel on Tuesday. “Every time we find something, it’s like lighting a new candle — it gives a new light.”

Whereas the seal impression is made in an official imperial style, perhaps depicting a god, the crude clay seal is locally made, presumably by an illiterate underling. Combined, said Shalev, the seal and seal impression illustrate all levels of officialdom in the reviving city. They indicate, he added, that after the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of the Jews, Jerusalemites were rebuilding the city, including its bureaucracy, as told in the Bible.

Victory For Yeshivas as Supreme Court strikes down state ban on taxpayer funding for religious schools

I know that in some States and cities ... parents practically no tuition... For example, Milwaukee and I believe in Cleveland parents pay very little in tuition, since those states have "free choice" for all students....
Since New York State has Charter Schools which they fund, they will have to fund Yeshivas as well, as I understand it ......... I wonder how much parents will need to pay in tuition if this is implemented? I really hope that works out so all Jewish children will be able to afford a Jewish education.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down a ban on taxpayer funding for religious schools, in a narrow but significant win for the school choice movement.
In the 5-4 ruling, authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court essentially backed a Montana tax-credit scholarship program that gave residents up to a $150 credit for donating to private scholarship organizations, helping students pay for their choice of private schools. The state's revenue department made a rule banning those tax-credit scholarships from going to religious schools before the state's supreme court later struck down the entire program.
“A State need not subsidize private education. But once a State decides to do so, it cannot disqualify some private schools solely because they are religious," Roberts wrote in the court's opinion.

Gerer Civil War Spills Over to New York ...

This holy battle started last year and it's about the Gerer Camp up in Monticello....
I'm not even sure what it is about ..... suffice it to say, it wound up in secular courts!
If a regular Joe Shmo takes his pal to secular court, you can be sure that Joe Shmo's name will be plastered all over the bulletin boards of the "Non-Talking" Shuls.... but Rebbes like Satmar, Bobov and Ger completely ignore the 3rd Rashi in Parshas Mishpatim that explicitly writes that this is a "Chillul Hashem" and compares taking your fellow Jew to a secular court to worshipping Idols.

I see that one of the plaintiffs is none other than Dovid Olewski, and I'm really happy about that, because as far as I know he died on April 4 of this year, which means that Moshiach is already here and he had "Tchiyas Hameisim" but that didn't stop the Gerer Chassidim from shlepping him to court; refusing to give the poor guy a break, who was trying to recuperate from the ordeal of being 3 months underground!

I see one of the defendants calls himself "Abraham Abramovitz"
that's like calling a shmuck ... "Schmuck Schmuckovitz."

I wish both sides "Hatzlacha"

The headline screamed: 50 Jewish Organizations Oppose Annexation!

Fifty Jewish organizations signed a statement against Israeli annexation (the better term is reunification - and it is really simply the application of Israeli law instead of the current IDF military law on the region) of any part of Judea-Samaria.

Wow, that’s a lot of organizations. It sounded serious.

Practically a revolt by Diaspora Jewry! I can understand why Israel’s leaders might have been concerned.

Until they looked a little closer at the list of signatories.

It turns out that the “fifty organizations” were nothing of the sort, and the “Jewish opposition to annexation” is a myth. A crumbling myth.

Let’s have a look at the “Big Fifty.”

Supreme Court rules Trump has unfettered power to fire officials

The Supreme Court on Monday put the brakes on Congress’ attempt to limit the president’s power to remove executive branch officials in a win for President Trump.
The justices ruled, 5-4, that the Constitution requires the president have unfettered discretion to fire the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
However, the high court rejected arguments that the entire agency should be shut down.
All of the Republican appointees on the high court backed the decision eliminating the restrictions on the firing of leaders of so-called single-member agencies, while all the Democrat-appointed justices said they would have left those limitations in place.
The board was the brainchild of Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren before her days in elected office, and enacted into law by Congress in the wake of the 2008 financial collapse.
The White House hailed the ruling.
“Today’s decision represents an important victory for the fundamental principle that government officials should be accountable to the American people,” press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement.
“Today’s decision helps restore to Americans power over their government that the Dodd-Frank Act took away to protect entrenched and unelected bureaucrats in Washington,” she said, referring to the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, a series of federal regulations passed in an attempt to prevent a future financial crisis after the economic collapse of 2008.
