Oxford University May Remove Sheet Music for Being Complicit in ‘White Supremacy’

The University of Oxford is considering proposals that would remove sheet music from its curriculum over woke claims that teaching the Western form of musical notation has roots in “colonialism” and “complicity in white supremacy”.

In response to widespread Black Lives Matter protesters and riots last year in the United Kingdom, music educators at Oxford University have joined the wider iconoclastic movement which has been sweeping through British academia.

The music department at the prestigious and ancient university has seen calls to remove music notation from the curriculum as professors seek to focus less on white European heritage and culture, according to documents seen by The Telegraph.

The woke educators went on to claim that musical notation itself is a “colonialist representational system” that has “complicity to white supremacy”. The claim is similar to leftist pronouncements in America that mathematics is inherently racist.

The Oxford academics went on to pronounce that teaching the piano or conducting orchestras could cause “students of colour great distress” as the skills involved are closely tied to “white European music”.

Professors at the university said that the classical music which is taught at Oxford, which includes Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, among others, is too focused on “white European music from the slave period”.

The assertion is somewhat dubious, as Western classical music, as well as the practice of sheet music notation, predates the Atlantic slave trade, stemming back to musical traditions from the medieval period such as Gregorian chanting.

In response to student demands “arising from international Black Lives Matter demonstrations,” the Oxford faculty is also considering placing a heavier emphasis on “non-Eurocentric” musical traditions such as Hip-Hop and Jazz, as well as “African and African Diasporic Musics” and “Global Musics”.

The curriculum could also place more importance on pop music and culture, with suggested topics including “Artists Demanding Trump Stop Using Their Songs” at campaign rallies and “Dua Lipa’s Record-Breaking Livestream”.

Mocking the woke push from the university, London mayoral candidate and Heritage Party leader David Kurten said: “For goodness sake. Oxford is supposed to be one of our top Universities that promotes academic rigour and excellence. It should not be peddling woke nonsense like ‘classical music is racist and ‘sheet music is non-inclusive'”.

The proposals come amid a wider push throughout British academia to “decolonise the curriculum” in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.

In February, for example, the University of Leicester caused uproar after it proposed cutting courses in Medieval English literature — removing seminal works such as Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf — in favour of focusing more heavily on texts relating to sexuality, diversity, race, and ethnicity.

The woke push has also seen the introduction of speech codes, with the University of Manchester telling staff to refrain from using gendered words such as “father” or “mother” in favour of more “inclusive language”.

Asian woman, 65, suffers shocking attack in Midtown Manhattan while two security guards do NOTHING to help

An Asian woman was attacked by a black man in Midtown Manhattan in broad daylight on Monday - while a couple of security guards from a nearby building did nothing to stop it.

Surveillance camera footage from inside the building where at least two guards were on duty captures the moment a man randomly kicks the woman to the ground before viciously stomping on her head and face at least three times.

Despite the attack being both vocal by the suspect and the victim screaming, nobody came to her aide despite her being kicked in full view of those in the neighboring building.

One of the men appeared to be busy opening up packages while the attack was ongoing.

At one point, a second security guard could be seen closing the front door to the premises where the pair were working, completely ignoring the woman who had just been the victim of a savage assault.

Neither decided to chase after the suspect who was still being hunted by police on Monday night.

The Black Suspect calmly walking away

The unidentified suspect allegedly hurled anti-Asian statements as he punched and kicked the 65-year-old woman on West 43rd Street near Ninth Avenue just before midday, according to the NYPD.

'F*** you, you don't belong here,' the man is said to have yelled at the woman according to sources as reported by the New York Post.

The woman was taken to NYU Langone Hospital in stable condition having suffered a fractured pelvis.

The suspect was also caught clearly on surveillance camera as he walked away from the scene and appeared to be wearing distinctive blue pants, a maroon scarf and beige cardigan.

The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is now investigating the incident.

Cuomo kept COVID-19 tests from nursing homes But His Relatives got them

The Cuomo administration largely ignored a county official’s pleas for COVID-19 tests for nursing homes at the pandemic’s height last spring — even as the governor allegedly secured the then-scarce tests for his relatives, The Post has learned.

The slight is the latest stumble in Cuomo’s pandemic response, particularly with respect to nursing homes, where thousands of residents have died of confirmed or suspected cases of the coronavirus.

Troubled by reports of COVID-19 running roughshod through nursing homes early in the pandemic, Jack Wheeler, the manager of upstate Steuben County, requested in April 2020 that the state Department of Health provide enough tests for every resident and staff member of three facilities in his jurisdiction.

Rare coin rediscovered during conservation project of Jerusalem museum tower

A box of artifacts was rediscovered during a major conservation project to restore the stones of the “Phasael” tower of the Jerusalem citadel’s $40 million renewal project, the Tower of David Museum said Monday.

Additionally, the team discovered a box of artifacts, originally excavated in the 1980s. Within it, they uncovered a rare silver coin from the Second Temple period  — a “Tyre shekel.”

Two images are imprinted on either side of the coin: On one face is Melqart, the chief god of the Phoenician city of Tyre, and on the other, an eagle.

The coins were struck at some point between 125 BCE and the outbreak of the Great Revolt in 66 CE, when they were used to pay a half-shekel tax. Talmudic sources suggest that the Tyrian shekel was likely the only means of paying the head tax at the Temple for its upkeep.

Thousands at Kotel for traditional Pesach "Birchas Kohanim" ceremony

For the first time in a year and a half, thousands of people were able to attend the traditional priestly blessing event at the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem on Monday, made possible by the rolling back of coronavirus restrictions ahead of the Passover festival.

Traditionally, tens of thousands of Jewish pilgrims make their way twice a year to the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, on the intermediate days of the Passover and Sukkot festivals, with crowds of men and women spilling out from the Wall’s plaza to surrounding areas.

Thousands come to Yehoushua's Altar after PA desecration

Thousands of Jews visited Mount Ebal in Samaria today (Monday) and also visited the altar of Joshua son of Nun, part of which was destroyed last month by the Palestinian Authority. The site is believed to be the place where the Biblical Prophet Joshua built an altar after entering the Land of Israel more than 3,000 years ago.

Last month, a gravel crusher used by the Palestinian Authority for the paving of a new road deliberately removed and crushed stones from the ancient wall around the altar, provoking outrage among the Jewish and archaeological communities. The Samaria Regional Council promoted the restoration of the site and today for the first time held a huge event featuring thousands of people took place at the archaeological site.

"We invite the general public to come and enjoy the national parks, heritage sites, wineries and nature sites, enjoy a breathtaking view, Samaria is open to everyone and is a 25-minute drive from Tel Aviv," says Yossi Dagan, chairman of the Samaria Regional Council.

Referring to the thousands who came to the first festival on Mount Ebal and the altar of Joshua, Dagan says: "They are destroying and we are building, they are trying to erase history and we are restoring and preserving the world history and historical sites of the Jewish people, the thousands who come today prove that the Jewish people do not forget their roots. A nation that remembers its past will have a glorious future on all its land."

The festivals and celebrations at nature and heritage sites throughout Samaria are expected to continue tonight and tomorrow.
