Did he do due diligence?
He was no hero. He was a gangster who sold his service to the highest bidder. He went to jail for kidnapping a fictional husband in an FBI sting.

You think he only used his gangster tactics for Agunos? That was only his brand. In fact, he was a vicious and unprincipled gangster who stopped at nothing for the benefit of whoever paid him the most.
If the whole community has a shred of morality and refused to interact with gett refusers then you wouldn't need others kidnapping and bashing them and ending up in jail.
By being a 'hero' to desperate woman he was helping himself to more than just money.

Never mind that Prodfather Mendel's gangsterei was used against women when the men paid more. He hijacked the Iggud Haganovim "beis din" as the shadow figure running it for all kinds of financial shakedowns with fixed outcomes that had nothing to do with marital strife. Belsky was his dramatic partner in crime who did all the screaming & intimidation during proceedings. They also issued many bogus cherems.
