Harav Hagoen Eliyahu Godlevsky sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping his three daughters

DIN: Though this case was adjudicated last year July 2024, we were given permission to release his name yesterday!

At the request of three sisters who were sexually abused by their father, the Tel Aviv District Court today (Sunday) allowed the publication that Rabbi Eliyahu Godlevsky, one of the senior rabbis of Breslov, one of the rabbis who signed against Berland and came out against him with all his might, and the leader of the Azamra organization for the dissemination of the teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, was convicted about a year ago on April 9, 2024, in the Tel Aviv District Court, of committing sexual offenses against three of his daughters.

On July 11, 2024, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended imprisonment and compensation to the victims

Advocate Licole Tamsut, who represents the victims on behalf of the Legal Aid Department at the Ministry of Justice: "I have been accompanying the victims in the legal proceedings for more than two years. During this period, I was exposed to their strengths and abilities on the one hand, but also to their difficulty in the fact that they were required to remain silent due to the publication ban on the affair.

The victims are happy that justice has finally been served, after years of suffering, and after more than two years have passed since the complaint was filed. Finally, not only did the fact that their father hurt them receive legal confirmation and he was convicted and sentenced, but the court understood their difficulty, and they no longer have to keep the difficult events they experienced a secret, as they were asked to do by the defendant over the years of abuse.

The possibility that they were given, from now on, not to keep the harm to them a secret, can be the beginning of some kind of healing for the many wounds and damages that accompanied and continue to accompany them over the years."

One of the victims of the offense said after the court's decision to allow the publication of the name of her father, who harmed her and her sisters: "I am happy to be able to breathe again, after the request to lift the gag order was accepted. Finally, the shame is moving aside and we no longer have to hide behind shame and guilt that don't belong to us."

The prosecutor in the case, Adv. Rosi Kabaz of the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office (Criminal): "The State Attorney's Office welcomes the significant sentence of 10 years in prison imposed by the District Court on Rabbi Eliyahu Godlevsky, after he was convicted of committing sexual offenses against three of his daughters.

The courage of the girls to speak up and complain is that it is possible to reveal the truth about what happened in the family unit, and therefore even when the home, which is supposed to be the safest place for the children, ceases to be a fortress – there is no room for silence!

The punishment and compensation to the complainants may not be able to heal the wounds, but they have the power to send a clear message of condemnation and justice."
