Girls today should learn all aspects of Torah necessary to protect them from falling prey to the disinformation from without but even more, from within the Jewish society. There is no aspect of Torah that a girl today should not learn, in order to shield her soul.
Even in this comments section, krumkeit and idiocity is often quoted in the name of Torah. From there, its a short path to abandoning one’s entire heritage. That is not to say that she has the same chiyuv of limud as a man, but without the protection of lifelong Torah learning, a Jewish woman is in great spiritual danger.

Schenirer saw that frum girls were leaving the fold. The Polish girls were going to school, getting educated, getting jobs and were happy about it. The Jewish girls were told "What do you need to learn to read for? To read a cookbook? Just memorize your mother's recipes and you'll be fine." And they wanted to be educated so they left the faith to do so. Shenirer saw that a compromise - a decentg basic education - would satisfy most girls. It was too many of the Gedolim who said "We don't get why girls aren't satisfied with how things are so therefore nothing should change."
Not sure which gedolim you're talking about. As far as I know the Chofetz Chaim and the Gerrer Rebbe were both big supporters of the beis yaakov movement.
I see a lot of revisionist history being written about Sorah Schneirer . But not from the right wing circles. These claims are only coming out now when everyone who knew her is dead. Not a single person who actually knew her described her the way some are telling us to believe about her. Even those who knew her but then took a very different path from what she advocated never claimed the current attempted descriptions are true
Actually The Chofetz Chayim did not come aboard till much later. The first to give his approval was the Belzer Rebbe, and though he approved, he nevertheless prohibited his chassidim from sending their girls there. She subsequently got a bracha from the Gerer Rebbe. Eventually, with a big struggle, the CC came aboard and so did R' Elchonon Wasserman. What is interesting is that the followers of the CC and R Wasserman didn't send their girls to her school.

The CC NEVER gave his approval to Sara Schnerier, he gave approval for Jewish Girls to learn Chumash and Navie in general, it had nothing to do with the new Bais Yaakov movement!

Rav Shamshon Refael Hirsch zt"l supported Jewish education for girls way before Beis Yankev. In fact, Sarah Schenirer, in founding Beis Yankev, was inspired greatly by Rav Hirsch, via Rav Moshe Flesch z"l of Vienna, a talmid of Rav Breuer z"l , son-in-law of Rav Hirsch, in Frankfurt!
