A fire overnight claimed the lives of three family members in the Hasidic town of Kiryas Joel in New York.
According to Kikar Hashabbat, Kalman Goldstein, his wife, and his seven-year-old daughter were killed after a fire broke out in their home as they slept overnight Wednesday.
Local firefighters worked for a long time to gain control of the blaze, and authorities are currently investigating its cause.
Kiryas Joel, officially named Palm Tree, is a town in Orange County, New York, about an hour north of New York City. The overwhelming majority of the town's residents belong to the Satmar Hassidic sect.

OMG two $10 smoke alarms... BDE
First and MOST important it is so sad BDE.
Unimportant but curious, I did not know that there was a non-satmar frum community in Monroe vicinity?
Or were they just an exception.
Might this be arson? Started by some over zealous murderer that wanted to scare them out of KJ? Just hypothesizing.
By the way, it didn’t happen in Kiryas Yoel, but in the town of Monroe.
As you can see this couple was modern orthodox, not Chasidish
There are quiet a few orthodox families who live in Monroe, they have their own Kehila and Shul
It sounds like maybe an electrical fire because it spread throughout the house very fast. Smoke detectors probably wouldn’t have helped and maybe they had them but it was too fast. Nebach!! BD”E
