A couple of years ago ... some nameless "poisek" came up with a new chumrah. To remove the faces of dead alteh bobbis from frum magazines.... If some elderly lady, 110 years old,a survivor of the Holocaust died ..they would put the photo of her live husband in the publications instead... Was the poisek afraid he would get turned on if he saw her photo?A tzedeikas ? .. Some would answer, I'm sure she wouldn't want her photo in the publication." To that I say .. "she is now in place where she knows the truth" that these chumras didn't make anyone a bigger "yirei shamayim" ... any "baal aveirah" can easily access any lady photo from the internet ... at least let them glance at a tzneesidike women who dedicated herself selfishlessly to her family and for Torah! Maybe they would get inspired....
Just recently (before covid-19) a prominent lady was honored by a "ladies chesed organization" for her tremendous work in the field of medicine ...This organization placed ads all over with her husband's photo! On the internet! Magazines such as Ami and Mishpacha who have sections catered exclusively to women have no photos of women...
Recently I saw an interesting "shaaleh" in the halacha section of a Torah newspaper....
The guy is asking if he is allowed to display photos of his wife and daughters in his own home, because he invites a lot of Yeshivah bochrim for Shabbos meals.
I happened to recognize the name of the guy who asked this sick question, and can tell you and I'm not a poisek ... but knowing his family well ... I'll go out on a limb and venture to say he can display the photos of his wife and daughters ... no problem... no one is getting turned on...
But the publication printed this idiotic "shalleh" and answered him... that he should not "display them prominently"! ...... a guy invites boys, who learn Torah 24/7 and who hopefully have living mothers and some may even have sisters and the "poisek" is afraid that the boys are going to get turned on by the hostess and her daughters by glancing at their photos... mind you, they are in the house meeting in person the host's wife and his daughters, shmoozing with them and that won't turn the kid on, but what's going to turn him on is a photo from 30 years ago! If we are that afraid of this, then don't invite the boys over, let them eat ptcha in Yeshivah ..
Aunt Jemima is being rebranded with a new name and image, parent company Quaker Oats has announced, acknowledging that the face of the brand was “based on a racial stereotype.”
“We recognize Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype," said Kristin Kroepfl, vice president and chief marketing officer of Quaker Foods North America, in a statement shared with Fox News. “As we work to make progress toward racial equality through several initiatives, we also must take a hard look at our portfolio of brands and ensure they reflect our values and meet our consumers’ expectations."
