Need for haredi communal life outweighs virus risks ....There should be no reasonable expectation that this will change.

 By JEREMY SHARON

On Sunday, two of the most senior and revered rabbis in the ultra-Orthodox world died following complications they suffered from COVID-19.

Rabbi Meshulam David Soloveitchik, 99, a scion of the famed Soloveitchik family and rabbinic dynasty and dean of the Brisk Yeshiva in Jerusalem died Sunday morning after a series of medical problems including being diagnosed with the coronavirus three months ago.
Both funerals were attended by thousands of ultra-Orthodox men despite the ban on outdoor gatherings of more than 10 people.

Rabbis Soloveitchik and Scheiner join a long list of other prominent ultra-Orthodox rabbis to have died from COVID-19 in Israel and the US, as well as numerous other senior ultra-Orthodox rabbis and educators, including the grand rabbi of Kozlover hassidim, the grand rabbi of Amshinov hassidim in Borough Park, New York, the grand rabbi of Stanislaver hassidim, the grand rabbi of Novominsk hassidim, and the grand rabbi of Pittsburgher hassidim.

In October last year, the most senior Ashkenazi, non-hassidic ultra-Orthodox leader in the world Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, 93, contracted COVID-19 as well after a failure to observe regulations, but incredibly did not suffer from severe symptoms.

'Our fight against COVID mutations will take many years' .. Yoav Kish Deputy Health Minister

srael remains dangerously high, despite the ongoing lockdown and mass vaccination campaign.

“The situation is concerning,” Kish said during an interview with Radio 103FM. “We still aren’t seeing the decrease we have been expecting in the number of seriously ill patients.”

Kish pushed back on Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s criticism of the Prime Minister’s demand for additional extensions of the lockdown, calling Gantz’s opposition “political”.

“There is a political matter here. What I saw at the last government meeting was that Gantz is unwilling to compromise on his position. His position is different from that of the Health Ministry’s experts, and he is able to force it on the entire State of Israel.”

“The situation here is dangerous, different positions can create a situation of paralysis.”

Kish also warned that the new variants of the coronavirus will likely require serious government measures to combat them for years to come.

“The British mutation is far more infectious. And this won’t be the last mutation. We’re in a battle that will be with us for many years.”

Again with the Chareidim...70 Chareidim Stuck In Morocco

"המבלי אין קברים בארץ ישראל?"

I really have to laugh!
When I was a teenager, I decided to visit Eretz Yisrael. There was a Yerushalmi Guy by the name of Geffner, and he gave tours..."Geffner Tours"
So where does a Yerushalmi Guy take a bunch of Bochrim and a bunch of Bais Yaakov girls (yes ... in those days it wasn't assur... whoever signed up, was on that trip)?
To kevarim .....
yup, in fact some of those trips took 2 days and we even had to book rooms in hotels...
Yes yes ..he ,managed to sneak in Banias and Rosh ha'Nirkah in the north and Mazada ..... but basically it was kevarim kevarim and again kevarim..
I'm surprised he didn't take us to the kever of Moshe Rabbeinu, but I'll guess he didn't know where it was..

When I came back to the states, my father z"l, a Holocaust survivor, asked me "so what did you see?" so I enumerated all the kevarim I visited; he wasn't impressed at all, he said something so profound that I remember this decades later "At least they have a grave."

I digress....

so for 70 guys, the millions of graves in Eretz Yisrael wasn't enough ... In Israel, contractors need permission from the Asra Kedisha mafia before they put a shovel into the ground because chances are that wherever they dig they will find a body ...
But that wasn't enough for these "70 Chareidim" they had to go to "chutz Le'aartz" to Morocco during an epidemic, to go for the Yurzeit of Harav Abuchatzeira!
I am certain that if someone would have asked Harab Abuchatzeira z"l for advice, he would have told them to sit on their derrières and donate those thousands of shekels to the Yerushalyim poor ..
I guess they didn't daven hard enough because the way it looks they will be davening at the grave for another couple of weeks..
"zolin zei huben ge"poilt allas git!
Alluha Achbar ... G-d is Great!

About 70 Chareidi Israelis are stuck in Morocco without a way of returning to their families in Israel following the closure of Ben-Gurion Airport last week.

The Israelis traveled to Morocco to daven by the kever of HaRav Yitzchak Abuchatzeira, z’tl, on his yom hilula (yartzheit).

The Israelis, who had no inkling prior to their flight that the airport would be closed, planned on returning to Israel on Thursday or at the very latest on Motzei Shabbos, B’Chadrei Chareidim reported. Instead, they were forced to scramble to find places to stay and are making frantic efforts to find a way to return home.

The Israelis in Morocco are not the only ones stranded in foreign countries without a way home following the closure of Ben-Gurion. Hundreds of Israelis are in the same situation in various countries worldwide.

Last week, the government began planning rescue flights to return Israelis stranded abroad to Israel, including an Israir flight from Frankfurt, Germany for hundreds of Israels that was scheduled to fly on Friday. However, the flight was delayed after legal issues arose regarding the Health Ministry’s plan to allow certain Israelis to return on rescue flights while not allowing others, Channel 13 News reported.

A cabinet meeting on Thursday to establish a committee to make decisions on which Israelis are eligible for rescue flights was canceled and is set to meet on Sunday instead. However, it is unclear if the plan can be implemented at all due to the legal issues.

The cabinet is also expected on Sunday evening to approve an extension of the closure of Ben-Gurion, perhaps for several more weeks, as well as the extension of the general nationwide lockdown for another week.

Biden administration can't account for as many as 20 million vaccine doses

According to a report from the leftist news Politico, the Biden administration is struggling mightily to deliver on its promise to get a handle on the COVID-19 pandemic, and may have even lost track of as many as 20 million vaccine doses that were sent to the states.

The report notes that Biden officials are learning that a seamless, perfect pandemic response is easier to promise than deliver, and notes that the administration has largely jettisoned its ballyhooed coronavirus response plan as they discover that the challenges they face in getting the pandemic under control may have been more serious than they anticipated.

One administration official was even quoted as saying, "It's the Mike Tyson quote: 'Everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth.'"

The report also indicates that the Biden administration cannot locate about 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that have been sent to the states, and is concerned that "the crucial supply is boxed away in warehouses, sitting idle in freezers or floating elsewhere in the complex distribution pipeline that runs from the administration to individual states."

And as usual Biden administration officials blamed this problem on the Trump administration, which they claim was not tracking what happened to the vaccines after they were sent to the states.

The report also notes that administration officials have discovered that the available stockpile of vaccine is "mostly empty," and that they are struggling to find ways to boost production in order to even meet the administration's initial goal of 100 million vaccination doses in the first 100 days, which was widely criticized as being too modest and not even an improvement on the rate of vaccine delivery during the final days of the Trump administration.

The shortage of vaccine supply is said to have caught the Biden administration by surprise, and according to the Politico report, the shortage may not be alleviated even by as late as this summer, meaning that the administration's plans to help America return to normal activity may be much more stymied than previously anticipated.

Twitter Troll Replaced ‘Trump’ With ‘Cuomo’ In Maxine Waters’ Infamous Call To Violence And Democrats Losing Their Minds

Blue checkmarks and Democrats took to Twitter on Thursday to condemn a call for violence against Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the people in his administration.

The quote in question, however, was actually a call to violence against former President Donald Trump and his supporters from U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., that a Twitter troll account called “Cuomo Watch” satirically modified to say “Cuomo.”

“‘If you see anybody from the Cuomo Administration in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.’ -Maxine CuomoWatch,” the tweet reads.

Soon after the tweet was shared, prominent New York politicians, blue checkmarks, and Democrats in other states took to Twitter to condemn the call to action.

Cuomo’s senior adviser Rich Azzopardi also spread the misinformation, retweeting people’s condemnations and even accusing Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and her staff, without presenting evidence, of condoning violence against the governor.

When confronted about the legitimacy of the tweet and the true source of the quote, the legislators either deleted their tweets or attempted to defend their double-standard on political violence.

“I see what they did,” wrote state Sen. Diane Savino, “but that was then and this is now, and 4 years of Trump has led to words becoming weapons. We can’t just ignore them anymore, people take them as a call to violent actions.”

Cuomo’s office did not respond to The Federalist’s request for clarification on whether they still condemn the comments now that they know who originally made them. Instead, in his press conference on Friday, Cuomo blamed the internet and the troll who created the post.

“When you see the ugliness being fomented for selfish political reasons, everyone should condemn it. … We all know who spreads the ugliness on the Internet,” Cuomo says.

Many Democrats have a history of calling for violence against Trump and his supporters including Cuomo, who recently said that he “would’ve decked” Trump if he weren’t a governor.

The outrage over the modified quote also follows a report from the New York attorney general’s office that found that Cuomo and his administration lied about the number of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes following his policy that sent infected patients into care facilities during the pandemic.

“This is appalling and dangerous. Encouraging violence must never be tolerated. Shame on whoever is behind this kind of garbage,” the speaker of the New York State Assembly wrote.

“This is beyond outrageous,” a state senator added in her retweet. “Two weeks ago we saw what happened when arsonists throw gas around. Twitter should ban this dude now!”

“This is dangerous, reprehensible and has no place in any public discussion. Oh, and spare me the ‘someone else did it too’ excuse. Someone else saying a variation of this doesn’t change the fact that this is seeking to incite violence against a public official and their staff,” another assemblyman shared.

Joe Biden’s White House Occupied Mostly by White People

An analysis of West Wing offices thus far handed out to senior advisers demonstrates that President Joe Biden’s innermost circle of aides with prized real estate in the building is mostly white.

Out of 22 offices on the first and second floors, only four offices, including one occupied by Vice President Kamala Harris, are held by nonwhite individuals. The rest — a supermajority of 18 such West Wing offices — are occupied by white people, according to Politico.

The report comes as Biden signehttps://twitter.com/politico/status/1354046353157074944d four executive orders on Tuesday focused on “racial equity,” remarking on the day of the signing that “deep racial inequities” exist in America and that “systemic racism” has “plagued our nation for far, far too long.”

Incidentally, of the 13 coveted first-floor offices that were identified, white people occupy 12 of them. See the outlet’s graphic, which it calls the “White House power map,” above

Senior adviser Mike Donilon and counselor Steve Ricchetti have offices just a few steps from the Oval Office, while Annie Tomasini, director of Oval Office operations, and Stephen Goepfert, the president’s personal aide, flank the Oval Office’s north side.

Chief of Staff Ron Klain occupies the second-largest office to the Oval Office, which, as CNN notes, comes with a fireplace and outdoor terrace. Down the hall from Klain, also in spacious suites, are National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Harris, the vice president and sole racial minority to possess an office on the first floor.

The rest of the first-floor map includes Deputy Chiefs of Staff Bruce Reed and Jen O’Malley Dillon, press secretary Jen Psaki, Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, and senior adviser Anita Dunn.

Politico caveated that there are “still a few gaps,” and according to several reports, many people who would normally occupy desks within the powerful wing are instead working remotely or situated elsewhere on the White House campus because of coronavirus-related restrictions that Biden’s administration has implemented.

The other three racial minorities Politico identified — Director of Public Engagement Cedric Richmond, Domestic Policy Adviser Susan Rice, and Deputy Director of Public Engagement Adrian Saenz — are situated on the second floor, along with six white officeholders.

Hagaon Harav Yitzchak Sheiner, Zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Kamenitz

The Torah world suffered yet another great loss on Sunday, with the petirah in Yerushalayim of Hagaon Harav Yitzchak Sheiner, zt”l, venerated Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivas Kamenitz in Yerushalayim at the age of 98, just hours after the petirah of Harav Dovid Soloweitchik, zt”l.

The Rosh Yeshivah contracted the coronavirus a week ago, 17 days after he received the first dose of the vaccine, and was being treated at home.

On Sunday morning he suffered a deterioration in his condition and was evacuated to the hospital due to breathing difficulties.

Soon after arriving at the hospital, he suffered a further deterioration in his condition and the doctors performed resuscitation techniques. Unfortunately, he was niftar several hours later.

Thousands Ignore "Lockdown" and attend funeral of Rabbi Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik... All With No Masks...

Interesting: Rav Soloveitchik died from the virus himself and at his funeral no one cared...... even though there were 502 deaths in Israel this week alone ....yes yes I know he was 99 years old.... I'm not talking about him, I am talking about the ones attending .......

So a tzaddik dies and is the direct cause of others dying ......

Where are our leaders? Our gedoilim? Yes yes I heard .... Chilonie Protestors ....now Bnei-Torah measure their behaviors on how chilonim act .. but the facts are very obvious.. the majority spreading the virus and getting it are Chareidim ... they can burn as many busses they want ,, the facts will not change..

Thousands of people came out to attend the funeral of Rabbi Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik Sunday.

The funeral procession began from his home on Eli HaCohen Street in Jerusalem. After reciting Psalms, his eldest son, Yitzchok Zev, was crowned as the successor to the rosh yeshiva of Brisk.

The funeral was attended by rabbis and heads of yeshivot who came to accompany him on his final journey. Even the Rebbe of Gur, who had not gone to funerals since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, attended for a few minutes from his car.

Due to the mass gathering, the Israel Police gathered to attempt to prevent violations of the lockdown. Earlier it was reported that buses from Beit Shemesh that were on their way to Jerusalem were stopped by police forces and their passengers would be asked to explain their departure. The funeral procession will end at the Har Hamenuhot cemetery in Jerusalem.

The chairman of the Yisrael Beyteinu party, MK Avigdor Liberman, attacked Prime Minister Netanyahu and Internal Security Minister GAmir Ohana in light of the masses which came out for the funeral.

"Now in Jerusalem: this is what selective enforcement looks like. Where is the prime minister? Where is the Internal Security Minister?" Liberman tweeted.

Rabbi Soloveitchik passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 99, three months after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus. The rabbi's condition deteriorated on Friday. His condition was stabilized on Saturday, but deteriorated again in the evening and he passed away this morning.

The rabbi had several medical episodes over the last year, including a serious infection, a fall at home, and a complex surgery at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

Rabbi Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik is the son of Rabbi Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik, the 'Rabbi of Brisk,' and the grandson of Rabbi Chaim of Brisk, the originator of the 'Brisker method' of studying Talmud. His son, Rabbi Yitzchok Zev (Velvel) Soloveitchik, is a lecturer at the Brisk yeshiva. Hi son-in-law, Rabbi Nechemya Kaplan, is the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Shaar HaTalmud in Jerusalem

Twitter Suspends Christian Group for Accurately Describing Biden’s Transgendered Health Official Dr. Levine’s as a Male...which he is

A Christian organization has been suspended from the Twitter social media platform for stating Dr. Rachel Levine’s, assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), biological sex.

In recent weeks tech giants like Twitter, Facebook, and Google have been censuring mostly conservative voices on social media platforms, including former President Donald Trump and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell.

“You can now add Focus on the Family’s The Daily Citizen to the list,” Jim Daly, president of the organization, wrote in a blog last week.

Daly wrote about the ongoing censorship that has taken place in the wake of a volatile election:

As I’ve noted before, Big Tech titans are the new emperors of the twenty-first century, wielding an inordinate amount of power by silencing individuals and organizations that don’t comport or cave to their political or social point of view.

This past week, Twitter locked The Daily Citizen for an alleged rules violation, specifically that we had posted “hateful” content. It’s simply not true. We did no such thing.

At issue was a Tweet pointing to a story about Dr. Rachel Levine, President Biden’s controversial nominee for Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services. The tweet included the following sentence:

“Dr. Levine is a transgender woman, that is, a man who believes he is a woman.”

Daly said the appeal to Twitter about the suspension was denied.

“Over the course of the last week, President Biden has been stressing the need for unity – but his actions since taking office are all about demanding uniformity,” Daly wrote. “There appears to be no room for convictional disagreement. You will comply – or be silenced.”

Daly included in his blog a list of others who have been silenced on social media.

Experts Aghast As Biden Set To Name Malley As Iran Envoy....The one who Gave the Iranian Murderers Billions in Cash

US President Joe Biden has selected Robert Malley, a veteran Middle East official, as his administration’s special envoy for Iran, according to Thursday reports.

Malley was previously a top national security aide to former US president Barack Obama.

Meanwhile Hady Amr, a former deputy special envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations in the Obama administration, was appointed Thursday as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Israel and Palestinian Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

Amr was involved in ultimately failed efforts to broker a Middle East peace deal in 2013-14.

Malley currently runs the International Crisis Group. Iran hawks are “aghast,” believing Malley to be a key architect of the 2015 nuclear deal that former president Donald Trump withdrew the US from in 2018, AP said without citing named sources. These hawks are said to fear Biden “wants to rejoin the Iran deal at any cost and may be willing to sacrifice the security of Israel and the Gulf Arab states to do so,” AP reported. The hawks, it said, regard Malley as less than fully supportive of Israel.

Rav Chaim Kanievsky Makes Front Page of New York Times

The following is from a New York Times article today accompanying a picture of Rav Chaim Kanievsky that appeared on its front page:

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, 93, can’t use a phone. He rarely leaves his house. His family says he has never successfully made a cup of tea. His closest aides think he doesn’t know the name of Israel’s prime minister. He studies the Torah for, give or take, 17 hours a day.

Yet despite his seeming detachment from worldly life, Rabbi Kanievsky has become one of the most consequential and controversial people in Israel today.

The spiritual leader of hundreds of thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews, Rabbi Kanievsky has landed at the center of tensions over the coronavirus between the Israeli mainstream and its growing ultra-Orthodox minority.

Throughout the pandemic, the authorities have clashed with the ultra-Orthodox over their resistance to antivirus protocols, particularly their early refusal to close schools or limit crowds at religious events. Similar conflicts have played out in the New York area.

Rabbi Kanievsky, issuing pronouncements from a book-filled study in his cramped apartment in an ultra-Orthodox suburb of Tel Aviv, has often been at the fore of that resistance. Twice, during the first and second waves of the pandemic in Israel, he rejected state-imposed antivirus protocols and would not order his followers to close their yeshivas, independent religious schools where students gather in close quarters to study Jewish Scripture.

“God forbid!” he exclaimed. If anything, he said, the pandemic made prayer and study even more essential.

Soldier Eliminated Terrorist in Gush Etzion Junction : 'I saw he had a knife, I shot and neutralized him'

Preliminary IDF investigation of the attack at the Gush Etzion Junction this morning reveals that an attacker armed with three knives attached to a stick arrived at the junction and tried to stab IDF fighters operating in the area.

An IDF fighter responded by firing and neutralizing him. There are no casualties to our forces.

Corporal E., a fighter from the Kfir Brigade's Nachshon Battalion who neutralized the attacker, related: "I was standing at the northern hitchhiking position, at Gush Etzion Junction, to protect the civilians who were there. I saw a suspect walking on the road who began to move rapidly towards me and towards civilians who were there, I recognized that he had drawn a knife, I shot and neutralized the terrorist."

"I have been here in operational employment with my battalion friends for about a month. We stay alert all the time to avoid cases like this. We will continue to protect the residents of Gush Etzion and protect the home."

Gamestop Day Traders Don't Care If They Lose All Their Money As Long As They Can Stick it to Wall Street

They’ve endured a financial crisis. Two deep recessions. Mounds of student debt. Stagnant pay. Costly health care. Dim job prospects.

They’ve seen the uber-rich grow richer while a pandemic threw tens of millions of people out of work and left many more isolated and vulnerable at home.

Now, they feel, it’s payback time.

Nearly a decade after the Occupy protest movement left Wall Street more or less unscathed, the citadel of financial might faces a new assault.

Day traders, mobilized on a Reddit chatroom, have poured about all the money they can find into the stocks of a struggling video game retailer called GameStop and a few other beaten-down companies. Their buying has swollen those companies’ share prices beyond anyone’s imagination — and, not coincidentally, inflicted huge losses on the hedge funds of the super-rich, who had placed bets that the stocks would drop.

Their strategy, of course, is freighted with risk. The prices of the stocks they’ve bought are now multiples above any level justified by revenue, earnings or future prospects. The danger is that at any time, the stocks could collapse.

Maybe so. But as one Reddit user wrote Friday, asserting that hedge fund financiers would drink Champagne as they looked down upon Occupy Wall Street protesters in 2011:

“I’d rather lose it all than give them what they need to destroy me … I’ll burn it all down just to spite them.’’

Harav Dovid Soloveitchik Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk is Niftar at 99

Petira of Hagaon HaRav Meshulam Dovid Halevi Soloveitchik ZATZAL, Rosh Yeshivas Brisk. He was 99.

The levaya will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning, beginning from the niftar’s home on Eli HaCohen 17 and pass by the nearby Yeshivas Brisk on the way to Har Hamenuchos.

The Rosh Yeshivah contracted the coronavirus in October and after initially being treated at home, was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem after his condition worsened and was subsequently sedated and ventilated.

He was released to his home in early December, where a private ICU unit had been set up. His condition continued to deteriorate, until his Petira early Sunday morning.

The Niftar is the fifth of twelve children and the third son born to the Brisker Rov, Hagaon HaRav Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik and his Rebbitzen Alte Hindl. His exact date of his birth is unknown, but it is known that his older brother Reb Chaim was born in January 1920 and his younger brother Reb Refoel Yehoshua was born in spring 1924.

The Rosh Yeshiva emigrated to Mandatory Palestine with his father during World War II, and they settled in Yerushalayim. He married the daughter of HaRav Asher Sternbuch of London. He is the brother-in-law of Hagaaon HaRav Sternbuch, the Posek from Yerushalayim.

In the late 1970s, he opened opened his yeshiva in the Gush Shemonim section of the Givat Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Below is the last-known video of the Rosh Yeshivah, z’tl. After the Rav was released from the hospital on Erev Shabbos Chanukah, two talmidim visited and sang for the Rosh Yeshivah, z’tl.
