@jewishreels Shavuot at Bergen-Belsen, 19 May 1945. Just 34 days after liberation, survivors gathered in the open air to mark the giving of the Torah. Most of them were women, and there were children standing right at the front. Three Army chaplains led the service in tallitot worn over their uniforms. Rabbi Leslie Hardman was a British Army chaplain, Rabbi B. Goldfinger was a Polish rabbi serving with the French Army, and Rabbi Hermann Helfgott, later known as Zvi Asaria, was a Yugoslav Army chaplain who had spent four years as a prisoner of war. They held up a Torah curtain the Nazis had stolen from a Sicilian Jewish community, with green branches set in front of it for the holiday. Then Rabbi Helfgott lifted the Torah high for everyone to see. Rabbi Hardman later remembered survivors pleading with him: “Tell the world, tell the world. They must know what happened.” Film: Imperial War Museums, A70 337-3 More Jewish history at jewishreels.com (link in bio) #Shavuot #BergenBelsen #Holocaust #HolocaustRemembrance #jewishhistory ♬ origineel geluid - The Maestro & T.E.P.O

"There isn't a single protest by Charedim that hasn't resulted in serious casualties that required hospitalizing, and yet not one serious Charedi MK or Torah Leader said one word to stop these atrocities against innocent Israeli citizens which goes against every precept in the Torah"
An unusual and serious incident occurred Sunday evening in Beit Shemesh when the Karlin-Stolin Rebbe was attacked by an extremist group as he left a wedding celebration in the city.
According to eyewitness accounts, members of the group gathered near the venue, threw stones and other objects at the Rebbe's vehicle, and shouted insults at him. The Rebbe's escorts managed to get him into the vehicle and safely remove him from the scene without injury.
The incident follows a series of previous acts of harassment by extremist elements against the Rebbe, including in the area of Jerusalem's Mea Shearim neighborhood. Despite the repeated incidents, the Rebbe is known to consistently instruct his followers not to retaliate against the attacks.
The incident sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across the haredi community, with religious leaders and public figures unequivocally distancing themselves from the rioters' actions.
MK Meir Porush spoke with Jerusalem District Police Commander Maj. Gen. Avshalom (Avshi) Peled following the incident, demanding that he take a firm approach and act immediately to arrest those involved in the attack.
MK Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, strongly condemned the incident, quoting the Sages' teaching that "Jerusalem was destroyed only because Torah scholars were treated with contempt there."
He called on the Israel Police to act decisively to bring the attackers to justice.
The Honenu legal aid organization is sharply criticizing the arrest of 10 young men in an investigation into reported attacks on a French diplomat and an American journalist in the Binyamin region, arguing that investigators have not presented evidence linking the suspects to the alleged incidents.
At the conclusion of court hearings on Monday evening, seven of the suspects were ordered to remain in custody for an additional two days, while three others were released to house arrest. Attorneys Daniel Shimshilashvili and Asaf Gonen, who represent the suspects, are expected to file an appeal this morning against the decision to extend the detention of the seven men.
The attorneys claim the arrests were carried out indiscriminately against young men who happened to be in the area when the incidents occurred, without individual evidence demonstrating their involvement in the alleged assaults.
“After reviewing the police's claims in court, we can say clearly: These are baseless arrests. Serious accusations require evidence and proof, and those are absent from this case. Ultimately, this appears to be another part of a campaign of defamation and persecution, involving mass arrests that have nothing to do with fair legal proceedings," the attorneys said.
Regarding Saturday's incident involving the French diplomat, they claimed that the investigation materials presented to them indicated that he had not been injured. They also said he had not filed a complaint about the incident. Concerning the alleged assault on the American journalist on Friday, the attorneys maintained that there was no evidence linking any of their clients to an attack.
The attorneys also raised questions about the American journalist's conduct at the scene. They claimed that investigation materials included footage showing her spending an extended period alongside masked Arab individuals who, according to the attorneys, were armed with slingshots and stones. They questioned why she had remained with the group. These allegations were made by the defense attorneys and have not been established as findings in the legal proceedings. The attorneys further alleged that the arrests were intended to address external pressure rather than being justified by evidence warranting the suspects' continued detention.
Honenu also highlighted the case of one detainee who, according to the organization, serves as a medic and arrived at the scene in that capacity to help the injured. The organization claimed that he provided an alibi supported by messages and real-time updates documenting his activities, but was nevertheless arrested and had his detention extended.
