Israeli Agunah Receives Get From Moroccan Jail After Landmark Ruling

 

The peace agreement between Israel and Morocco has already led to one positive development. In an extraordinary scenario involving the Israeli rabbinical court, Foreign Ministry, prison services and security officials in Morocco and Israel, an Israeli woman received Tuesday her Get (divorce document) from her husband who is serving a prison sentence in Morocco.

The woman had married her husband in Israel, but he got involved in criminal activities and large debts and escaped to Morocco. There too he joined up with criminals, was caught and sentenced to a significant number of years in jail.

The young wife was left an Agunah (chained woman) and sought to receive a Get. The director of the Agunah department in the rabbinical courts, Rabbi Eliyahu Maimon, succeeded in locating the prison where the husband was serving his sentence in Casablanca, Morocco. In return for leniencies in his prison service, the husband agreed to grant a Get but this required three members of the Casablance Beis Din entering the prison together with a Sofer (scribe) and writing an “agent’s Get” which would enable them to be agents to bring the woman her Get. However the Moroccan authorities initially refused to let the rabbinical judges, scribe and witnesses enter the jail due to coronavirus restrictions.

Rabbi Eliyahu Aberjel, a former head of the Jerusalem Rabbinical court who has close ties with the Moroccan authorities, succeeded in persuading the authorities to allow one judge to enter the jail. He also published a landmark ruling which would allow the husband to make one judge an agent to transfer the Get to his wife. However when the rabbinical judge reached the jail, he was astonished to hear from the Muslim commander of the jail that according to Jewish law three judges are required and not one and therefore he should send for two more members of the rabbinical court in order to perform the Get.

Two more judges were summoned from Casablanca, the husband appointed the Sofer to write the Get and the Get was sent to Jerusalem where the woman received it joyously on Tuesday morning.

The director of the rabbinical courts, Rabbi David Malka praised Rabbi Aberjal and Rabbi Maimon for their efforts to help the Agunah and said that “the rabbinical courts will continue to act with speed, efficiency and determination to enable the release of Agunos and those refused a Get by their husbands wherever they may be.”

Rosh Yeshivas Mir Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel Contracts COVID-19

 

Rosh Yeshivas Mir and new member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah  HaRav Eliezer Yehudah Finkel received a positive result from a coronavirus test on Monday evening.

The Rosh Yeshivah was tested after a family member was diagnosed with the virus. Following the Rosh Yeshivah’s exposure to the family member last week, he canceled a scheduled trip abroad, Kikar H’Shabbos reported.

According to Mir bochurim, the Rosh Yeshivah, 55, is suffering some symptoms of the virus but is feeling relatively well and is resting at home.

The public is asked to daven for the Rosh Yeshivah’s continued good health: Eliezer Yehudah ben Rasha Leah b’soch shaar cholei Yisrael.

Republican Congressman-Elect Luke Letlow, 41, Dies From COVID-19

 

Louisiana Congressman-elect Luke Letlow, 41, passed away this evening due to complications from COVID-19, his campaign manager Andrew Bautsch said.

Letlow, a Republican, was admitted into a Monroe Hospital on December 19 after testing positive for the coronavirus and was transferred to Ochsner-LSU Health on Tuesday, December 22, and placed in intensive care.

Letlow is survived by his wife, Julia Barnhill Letlow, Phd., and two young children.

“The family appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time,” Bautsch said.

Letlow had just turned 41 on December 6th. He was scheduled to be sworn in as a congressman in January.

Welcome Home Jonathan & Esther Pollard

Jonathan and Esther Pollard landed in Israel early Wednesday morning a month after the US Parole Commission lifted restrictions on him and 35 years after he was arrested for spying for Israel.

Due to Esther’s health issues, the Pollards flew to Israel on the private Boeing 737 VIP jet of philanthropist Sheldon Adelson

The Pollards emotionally kissed the ground upon disembarking their plane and stepping on Israeli ground.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met the Pollards at the airport and presented Pollard with his Israeli identity card. “This is an extremely emotional moment,” the prime minister said. “Yonatan and Esther are home.”

“We are ecstatic to be home at last after 35 years,” Pollard responded. “We thank the prime minister and the people of Israel for bringing us home. A profound thank you. No one can be prouder of this country and its leader than we are.”

The Pollards, who are settling in Jerusalem, will quarantine for two weeks, as is required of all travelers arriving in Israel.

The "Klei Yakar" and Dubai

Hey DIN ... what does "Dubai" have to do with the Klei Yakar who lived in the late 1500 and early 1600, over 500 years ago?

Did the "seger" the "lockdown" effect your brain?

Not exactly..... I think that the words of the Klei Yakar, a commentary on the Torah is not only connected to Dubai but to the US as well...

You see, lately I have been reading that Jews are not only flocking to Dubai but actually moving there.

In the US ... there is a holy rebbetzin that is luring hundreds of families to Tampa Florida.

Now don't get me wrong, I am all for having peace with the Arab countries... absolutely ...

But moving there? Have we not learned anything from Jewish History? Nothing?

Or have they been brainwashed by the Satmar Yiddish weekly's propaganda  .. Der Yid, that keeps touting the lies that Arabs were good to the Jews until 1948..they won't tell you that Arabs took the father of Boba Sali on a nice sunny Shabbos afternoon and shot him out of a cannon .... way before 1948.

Let's see what the Klei Yakar wrote 500 years ago....

In last week's parsha, in Parshas Va"yigash . in the very last verse, the Torah writes the following:

וישב ישראל בארץ מצרים בארץ גשן ויאחזו בה ויפרו וירבו מאד 

"Meanwhile, the fledgling nation of Israel lived in Egypt, in the Goshen district. They acquired property there, and were fertile, with their population increasing very rapidly."

Simple pasuk or verse, correct?

Sounds like the Torah is praising this .....

Not so fast ....

I am going to try to loosely translate and explain what the Klei Yakar says about this simple pasuk...

Klei Yakar's words in red

"The entire pasuk blames the Jewish people for settling in Egypt...."

(in other words, the Torah is not praising the Jewish people or even stating a fact, it is chastising the Jewish people)

Why?

"Because Hashem decreed:

כי גר יהיה זרעך ... "your children will be strangers" 

but they (the Jewish people) decided to settle in a place that I decreed should be the diaspora"

First the Klei Yakar wants to establish the fact that when the Torah writes the word וישב there can be a negative connotation...to prove that in this pasuk the word וישב  also has a negative connotation

" Just like when the Torah wrote in Parshas Va'yeishav

וישב יעקב ...that Yaakov wanted to settle down and relax...

so then Hashem sent him the troubles of the Yosef abduction ... and there the word וישב was meant  in a negative connotation, so here too in our pasuk the word וישב takes on a negative connotation."

The Klei Yakar continues ... and here comes the punchline!

"This pasuk comes to chastise the Jewish people for settling and wanting to own (see Rashi) parts of Egypt in a country that does not belong to them.

and in fact when they initially came to talk to Paro they told him that they only want to be there temporarily  לגור בארץ באנו 

but they then changed their minds.

Their intentions now were to remain there and in fact they refused to leave Egypt ..Hashem had to remove them from Egypt ביד חזקה with a "Strong Hand" and those that still refused ultimately perished in the 3 days of Makkas Choishach"

So my dear readers .... our grandfather Yaakov went down to Egypt with his entire family ...... with Hashem's blessing ....

and yet the Torah is not happy with the fact that they started buying property in a בארץ לא להם land that does not belong to them .....

B'H we have country, The State of Israel, a miracle, a country established only 70 years ago with  full infrastructure, buses, trains, light rail, brand new highways for cars .... electricity, heat, water, schools and Torah institutions... we are no longer a yishuv.... over 5.8 million Jews living here..

And yes ..we have our problems .... but when did Jews in Eretz Yisroel live in complete peace? .... Maybe when Shlomo Hamelech reigned ...how many years was that... that's about it ...

and yet few give this miracle any thought ...

This is not new... when Ezra was begging  Jews of Bavel to make Aliyah .... ... few took that initiative.....the leaders ..the tzaddikim ignored him ... even though they had a prophecy that they would only be in exile for 70 years ... the Gedoilei Yisrael ignored the prophecy...

and what else was in that prophecy?

What was included in that prophecy was that they should re-build the Bais Ha'mikdash ...

they ignored him...they didn't care about the Bais Ha'mikdash and certainly didn't care about Eretz Yisrael...and this only months after  Haman had scammed too annihilate the entire Jewish people in Chutz Le'aaretz!

 

What was their excuse?

This will sound familiar .... "oh the Jews there aren't Shomrei Torah Umitzvois" ....few Shoimer Shabbos there... "There are Jews there that are assimilated" 

That's what a cousin of mine told me when I asked her why she isn't giving Aliyah any thought...

"oh the Zionists..oh there is Chillul Shabbos in Tel Aviv" The Russians, the Ethiopians aren't really Jews" 

So why are Jews running to live in Dubai? Why are Jews in the US establishing new towns? What is it with us?

Yes Hashem sent us in Galus... but he doesn't want us there ... he wants us to make at least an effort to get the hell out of there ...

Reread the Klei Yakar that states that "settling in Egypt" even with Hashem's blessing is not ultimately good for us.....

We as a people must try to establish roots in Eretz Yisrael ..now...

Don't you guys see the handwriting on the wall?

We had a great friend in the White House who even though he is a goy recognised the fact that Yerushalyim is our capital... he recognised our taking back the Golan Heights, he recognised Yehuda and Shomron as a part of Israel and ruled that all products made there are as if it was made in the territories within the green line ...he made peace with Arab countries and Israel....

 Hashem looked down and took a poll and saw.. that Jews ...yes even frum Jews, even frum Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshiva .... voted for Biden...He looked down and saw that the majority of the Jewish people over 78% voted for Biden .... 

Hashem couldn't believe it ,,,, he checked with all the pollsters saw that  they refused to recognise the gift that He gave them ...He saw  self righteous rabbis who despised Trump writing articles in the media encouraging Jews to vote for the anti-G-D Democratic Party....placing this gift in the trash.....

Just like they continue to refuse the land that He gave them, even though they don't have to conquer it to get there.. ..

"And so they have no Akaras Hatoiv ... so you know what?"

Says Hashem...

"I'll give them a demented Biden with a VP married to an assimilated Jew whose children call her "mamele" and let her give the Jewish people the  Chanuka message ...let Ami Magazine and Mishpacha and Rabbi Avi Shafran pander and slobber over their "Camele" just like they did for Cuomo and DeBlassio who stabbed them in the back and front..

I'll close the borders of my beloved land ... it will be open only for their dead ,,, ....

US Jewry's Door Is Closing , Jewish destiny has moved to Israel

 

We know about France and the rest of Western Europe. We have seen Russia, Ukraine, Persia. The reality is that the Exile slowly, very slowly but quite manifestly, is closing its door in America also.

Jewish fate and destiny not only have been moving away from the American chapter and towards the Israel chapter, but that transition now is apace.

There were historically meaningful Jewish chapters in Babylonia and Persia. We have lived through the West European chapter when Jewish life centered in France, in England, in Germany. The Iberian chapter in Spain and Portugal. The Central and East European chapters extending into Russian/Soviet Asia. The North African chapter.

Next, the American chapter began to unfold in the late Nineteenth Century as 3.25 million Jews came — fled — to the United States during the mad rush between 1881 when pogroms erupted after Tsar Alexander II was assassinated and 1914 when America locked its doors in the face of World War I and her fear of the “Communist menace.”

Others may debate whether the chapter’s wind-down is good. Regardless, the American chapter has had the better part of its run and seen its better days. I write this as fact, not opinion. It just is.

The acrimony between never-Trumpers and pro-Trumpers has generated some fiery accusations from both sides. 

As a Jew who admires what President Donald Trump has done in the interest of the United States to promote peace in the Middle East and to bring security to Israel, but who is appalled by his extravagant narcissism and capriciousness, I tolerate what many regard as extreme abuse hurled in print at Trump and his supporters. 

Hardened by years of courtroom battles, and the charges and counter-charges made during hotly contested litigation, I calmly read aggressively expressed opinions with which I disagree. Proof is that I even continue to subscribe to The Washington Post.

But the Post published on Dec. 23 a reprehensible and revolting opinion piece that exceeds even my high tolerance level. It is called 

“Denying the Holocaust Threatens Democracy. So Does Denying the Election Results” by Deborah Lipstadt and Norman Eisen.

Health Ministry denies vaccination priority to the "Asra Kedisha" Hypocrites

Just yesterday we posted a "pashkivel"  that states that it is prohibited to marry into families that took the vaccine and was signed by the head of the "Asra Kedisha" Dovid Shmidal. 

Today we learn that this Shmidal character was quietly trying to get the vaccine for his cronies ...

Israel’s vaccination program against the coronavirus is underway, with priority being given to certain age groups, at-risk populations, and people working in various forms of employment that give them enhanced exposure to the virus. A few days ago, the Hevra Kaddisha (the organization of those who prepare the bodies of the deceased for burial according to Jewish law) appealed to the Health Ministry to be included among those given priority status for vaccination – and had their appeal rejected.

In their request to the Ministry, Channel 12reports, the Hevra Kaddisha noted that their 500 workers, based across the country, by virtue of the nature of their employment are exposed on a daily basis to people who have passed away with/from coronavirus, and therefore are in increased danger of contracting it themselves.

After receiving a negative reply from the Health Ministry, Avraham Manela, the head of the Hevra Kaddisha’s forum, appealed to the Religious Affairs Minister, Yaakov Avitan, and explained that if those working for the Hevra Kaddisha are not vaccinated, they will not be able to continue with their work due to the dangers it exposes them to.

“In the event that our workers are not included among those workers given priority for vaccination at this stage of the program, within a few days we will be forced to cease dealing with the bodies of people who have passed away from coronavirus,” he wrote.

Manela noted that those who work with other, similar organizations such as ZAKA, have, by contrast, been accorded priority status, “and the Health Ministry’s decision is therefore all the more difficult to understand, and displays a total lack of sensitivity to our position.”

He added that, “Those working for the Hevra Kaddisha have been working with dedication and sacrifice from the time when this epidemic broke out, risking their lives to continue their work. I am now appealing to the Ministers of Health and Religious Affairs to reconsider this decision and resolve this issue immediately.”
