That guy is from the כת חנפים, the flatterers, that, as ר' ירמיה בר אבא says in the gemara (Sotah mem bais amud aleph) is אינו רואה פני השכינה.
The fact is that the Yom Kippur war was a long time ago. Many people around today weren't around then, or were just kids then. Like Friedlander himself, he was maybe four years old then. It was forty six years ago. So they can be fooled by manipulators like Ezra the phony.
But there are some older people that should know better, that go along with him unfortunately. Like Joe Stamm. Joseph B. Stamm is a guy in his seventies. Why is he supporting Friedlander honoring such a rotzeach? Why does he give office space in his Med Review offices in downtown Manhattan to Friedlander?
Let's see which big tzadik he will try to honor next? Al Sharpton?

Friedlander gets these people that are dazzled by the glamour of Washington DC to support him, they are charmed by the idea of going to an affair there. But they are going into a swamp of falsehood and flattery by following Friedlander.
