When Pope Francis concluded his historic address to Congress on Thursday, dozens of lawmakers followed as he left the podium, hoping to clasp the hand or touch the garments of His Holiness.
Then there was Rep. Bob Brady (D-Pa.), who instead dashed to the podium to swipe the pope’s drinking glass.
The half-full glass of water has now become something of a holy relic for the congressman.
Brady took the glass back to his office, where he drank out of it, and held it up for his wife, Debra, and staff members so they could drink from it as well.
“How many people do you know that drank out of the same glass as the pope?” he boasted to the Philadelphia Daily News.
He then poured the water into a bottle so he can sprinkle later it on his four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, he told the Washington Post.
Anything the pope touches becomes blessed,” Brady told the paper.
“I think so and no one is going to change my mind.”
This isn’t Brady’s first heist.
The congressman confessed to the newspaper that he also stole the water glass used by President Obama during his first inauguration.
He didn’t drink out of that one, though. He just put it in his curio cabinet at home, where this one, too, will go.
First, though, he’ll have Philadelphia police fingerprint it, to document its authenticity, he told the Philly Daily News.
Brady represents part of Philadelphia and plans to follow the popular pontiff there this weekend.

I don't know if you are just being sarcastic or perhaps you never learned anything; your comparison is absurd, one congressman does something stupid and already you consider it as if this is a goyshe custom.
You obviously have no concept of what "shirayim " really is! When a Tzaddik eats or drinks a physical food or drink, the bracha he makes and the kavanos he has elevates the food to a level of kedusha. When this food is shared with the Tzaddik's consent the said food brings a blessing to those who partake of it.
The Poop did not consent to this common thief STEALING his glass of water and certainly the poop did not elevate the water to a state of holiness, on the contrary the Poop is the Avi Avos hatuma the father source of all that is unholy so all that the congressman gained from it was a deeper connection with unholiness.
You also fail to understand that The Jewish customs came way before Yoshke Smoshke and the Poops. In Chumash we see Avraham Avinu making seudot where he passed out Shirayim, Yosef Hatzaddik made a seuda for his brothers where he gave out shirayim, Shlomo HaMelech made Seudot where he gave out Shirayim.

Your statement that "Yosef Hatzaddik made a seuda for his brothers where he gave out shirayim," is as a lie.... he did make a seuda but nowhere is it indicated that they grabbed food off his plate.
