When Jewish ‘honor courts’ Post WW2 Tried Jews as Kapos

Jewish police detaining a former kapo who was recognized by former concentration camp inmates in the Zeilsheim Displaced Persons camp, Germany, ca. 1945.

In the wake of World War II, many Holocaust survivors in Europe and Israel grappled with a desire for revenge. Some turned to improvised “honor courts” for relief.

Created within reconstituted Jewish communities and displaced persons (DP) camps, the tribunals had no jurisdiction outside of the Jewish community.

Active until 1950, the informal judiciaries handed out punishments ranging from bans on holding public office to banishment from the community.

“The courts tried survivors who were accused of having acted immorally toward other Jews and allegedly having helped the Nazis in their genocide,” said historian Laura Jockusch, who spoke about honor courts during a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum virtual event on October 26.

Estimates on the number of alleged “collaborators” put on trial vary, but the Jewish community in Poland alone opened 175 files and prosecuted 25 Jews as collaborators.

In German DP camps, where thousands of survivors lived, American authorities allowed honor courts and commissions for “liberated Jews” to “purge fugitive collaborators from the ranks of the Jewish community,” said Jockusch.

Historians estimate up to 200 people were tried in DP camp-based proceedings.

Elon Musk completes Twitter takeover, begins firing woke execs

Let that Sink In

Elon Musk finally completed his $44 billion Twitter takeover deal, firing the company’s CEO and financial chief and ending a lengthy tug-of-war with its board of directors just before a key deadline, according to a source close to the situation.

Musk took the struggling social network private late Thursday, ousting Chief Executive Parag Agrawal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Bloomberg News reported early Friday that Musk plans to take over as Twitter’s CEO — at least on an interim basis.

It wasn’t immediately clear who would replace Segal as CFO.

Agrawal and Segal were in Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters when the deal closed and were escorted out, sources said. Musk had accused them of misleading him and Twitter investors over the number of fake accounts on the social media platform.

Musk also fired Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s top legal and policy executive, and Sean Edgett, general counsel, according to the Wall Street Journal.

CALL THE FAKE DOCTOR! Jill Biden to Campaign for Threatened NY-17 Rep. Maloney

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, the Democratic congressman from NY-17 on the precipice of a stunning loss to Republican Mike Lawler is calling in the doctor for help. Dr. Jill Biden, who is a teacher, that is.

The First Lady will campaign with the embattled congressman this Sunday in Mount Kisco in an effort to save the head of House Democrats’ campaign arm from an embarrassing defeat. Biden will also attend several other events in support of Democratic candidates in New York.

Earlier this week, the Cook Political Report moved the Maloney vs. Lawler race from “lean Democrat” to “toss up,” a sign of how difficult an election cycle 2022’s midterms is for Democrats.

Republicans have thrown massive amounts of money at the campaign as confidence rises that they could take out the powerful Democrat. In turn, the DCCC, which Maloney leads, has made a $605,000 ad buy in the district to help him secure his seat.

“It will be quite a feather in their cap to knock off the DCCC chair,” Democratic strategist John Reinish said. “He is a very effective burr in their collective saddle, so the idea that they could knock him off would be one that would be very tantalizing.”

Why Did The Israeli Bus Driver Cross The Road?

The story of the bus driver who crossed the road that is circulating in Israel has restored some people’s faith in the kindness of bus drivers.

The protagonist of the story is Moshe Biton, a bus driver for the 65 Egged bus line, which travels from Pisat Ze’ev to Givat Shaul in Jerusalem.

A Facebook user, Ravit Shalom, wrote the moving story on Facebook: “This morning, on bus 65, an elderly blind woman got on the bus and tearfully told the driver that the day before she waited a very long time for someone to help her cross the street and no one paid any attention to her.”

What did Biton do? When he reached the woman’s bus stop, he stopped the bus and patiently escorted the woman across the street.

Skver and Vizhnitz Turn on Biden and Attend GOP Fundraiser

Skver Mayor Spitzer meets Zeldin officials

A fundraiser for Rep. Mike Lawler in Wesley Hills headlined by Republican House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise and joined by several other congressmen from across the country was attended by various high-ranking members of the chasidish community, just a day after President Biden begged them to support incumbent Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

Chasidic dignitaries in attendance included New Square Mayor Izzy Spitzer, Kaser (Vizhnitz) Mayor Eli Pinkasowitz, Airmont Deputy Mayor Shimon Moses, Chestnut Ridge Trustee Chaim Ross, Pomona Village Trustee Mendy Lasker, activist Yossi Gestetner, and others.

The Chasidic presence at the fundraising luncheon came just a day after President Joe Biden called the Skverer and Vizhnitzer rebbes, asking them to throw their support behind Rep. Maloney, who is facing an increasingly difficult election on November 8th.

Much of the luncheon focused on education and how the federal government could assist students, and particularly Orthodox Jewish students whose yeshivos are being targeted by New York bureaucrats.

Rep. Scalise, who is projected to become the House Majority Leader following the expected Republican takeover of the House of Representatives, said that a top GOP priority in Congress is to pass a Parental Bill of Rights that would block states from regulating what and how parents must teach their children.

There are still Rabbanim with integrity! Rabbi Reisman Endorses Zeldin for Governor

Lee Zeldin is about to get an extremely rare endorsement from a leading Rabbi, underscoring just how perilous the current situation is for religious Jews in New York.

As first reported in Hamodia by Reuvain Borchardt, Harav Yisroel Reisman is set to endorse the Republican, mainly due to the looming threat to yeshivas from the State Education Department.

For months, Charedim have wondered whether Rabbanim would publicly endorse Zeldin. Orthodox leaders often refrain from endorsing candidates, in part because of the risk of alienating the opposition.

However we are living in unprecedented times. The community has been afflicted with rampant antisemitism, and the vicious campaign against yeshivas has culminated in catastrophic restrictions.

While one of the candidates clearly stands with our community, the other, despite support from askanim, has repeatedly alienated orthodox Jews.

Unlike Hochul who has avoided taking a stand on the secular equivalency issue and refused to defend yeshivas, Zeldin has been a staunch and unwavering supporter of the yeshiva curriculum, even months before the equivalency guidelines were passed by state officials.

“Our lives as Orthodox Jews in this state have never been so threatened as they are now, with the current education regulations,” Rabbi Reisman, Rosh Yeshiva of Torah Vodaath and Rav of Agudah of Madison, told Hamodia. “Lee Zeldin had the courage to speak up for our yeshivos many months ago, not just as the election is coming down to the wire.”

He added, “We would support Zeldin for his stances on crime and inflation anyway. But our community is laser-focused on the attack on our yeshivos. And we are very motivated to get out and vote.”

Rabbi Reisman is scheduled to announce the endorsement on Sunday. In addition, a letter sent this week to alumni from Yeshiva Chaim Berlin urged them to vote for Zeldin, saying “Our chinuch and way-of-life” are “at stake.”

Jewish lives don't matter to American Jewish leaders ...Can anyone say the name of a single Jewish victim of terrorism?

DemonRats Send Biden & Harris to make rare campaign appearance as duo to help FetterWoman

Democrats are betting that President Biden and Vice President Harris can put Democratic Senate hopeful John Fetterman over the top despite a faltering debate performance that has operatives more worried than ever they could lose the pivotal race.

Biden and Harris will head to Philadelphia to campaign together on Friday, a rare occurrence for the duo who typically don’t travel alongside one another.

Israeli scientists confirm the Stories from Tanach with geomagnetic testing

Israeli researchers from Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem were able to confirm the veracity of several classic biblical narratives after leveraging advanced geomagnetic testing at a number of ancient sites.

The researchers led a team of scientists and students from some 20 different countries, who used the new dating method to determine the age of 21 layers of destruction at 17 various biblical sites in the Jewish State.

Geophysicists used an innovative method of analyzing magnetic minerals found at the sites which, when burned or heated, can confirm the presence of the field at a specific point in time.

Coupled with an account of historical battles recorded in the bible, the researchers were able to track the path of destruction caused by the ancient Babylonian army and others who invaded the Land of Israel in antiquity.

“Based on the similarity or difference in intensity and direction of the magnetic field, we can either corroborate or disprove hypotheses claiming that specific sites were burned during the same military campaign,” explained doctoral student Yoav Vaknin, one of the lead researchers in the project.

But beyond confirming biblical history, the scientists also successfully used a new form of geomagnetic testing that can be used by scientists to date the age of ancient sites.

“Moreover, we have constructed a variation curve of field intensity over time, which can serve as a scientific dating tool, similar to the radiocarbon dating method,” Vaknin added.

Amou Haji, Known as 'World's Dirtiest Man,' Dead at 94 right after taking his First Bath in 60 Years

A man from Iran who was dubbed the "world's dirtiest man" has died at the age of 94.

Amou Haji went more than 60 years without taking a bath before he died in Dejgah on Sunday, The Guardian reported.

Locals said he did not bathe due to "emotional setbacks in his youth," the publication added.

The BBC said that Haji was afraid he'd get sick if he used soap and water

He ultimately gave in, and "for the first time a few months ago, villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash," Iran's IRNA news agency reported, according to The Telegraph. "Not long after, he fell ill and finally, on Sunday… he died."

Haji isn't survived by any known family members, but he was beloved in the village, and some even reportedly built him a cinderblock hut to sleep in

His fame spread further after he went viral for smoking a handful of cigarettes at a time. He would also use a metal plumbing object to smoke animal waste, The Telegraph added.

It was reported that he would eat rotten porcupine roadkill, and he drank five liters of water daily from a dirty bucket, per the publication.

Physicians from Tehran reportedly evaluated him earlier this year, and he was deemed healthy.

Florida attorney who opposed state helmet law dies in motorcycle crash while not wearing one

Friends are speaking out after a Florida attorney who fought state helmet laws died in a motorcycle crash while not wearing one.

Ron Smith, an experienced rider, was killed on Aug. 20 after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a utility trailer. His girlfriend, Brenda Volpe, was his passenger and also died.

"He was a guy that you went to for advice," Gary Pruss told the Tampa Bay Times.

The pair met through a group called the American Legion in Old Town.

Smith was traveling on U.S. 19 North in Pinellas County when he began to slow down to traffic, lost control of his motorcycle and skid on the roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol wrote in an accident report. His bike rotated "in a clockwise motion, overturning onto its left side" and collided with the left side and wheel of the utility trailer.

Smith, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene. Volpe, 62, died hours later at a hospital.

A medical examiner said Smith and Volpe died from head trauma, the Times reported. The office did not immediately return a request for comment on Wednesday.

The accident report noted that neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, although it is unknown whether one would have prevented their deaths.

Smith had spent over a decade fighting Florida laws that required the use of helmets, according to the Tampa Bay Times. He represented a number of clients who violated state motorcycle requirements in court cases that have been credited with helping to overturn the helmet law.

The current law states that anyone over the age of 21 can ride without headgear as long as they have at least $10,000 in insurance coverage "for injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or riding on a motorcycle."

Dave Newman, a friend, told the newspaper that Smith loved his independence and did not like being told what to do.

"He thought everybody should have their own choice," he said.

In one court case from 1996, Smith represented a man who was ticketed for riding his motorcycle without a helmet in Madeira Beach, according to the Times, citing a Tampa Tribune article. As a result of the case, the Pinellas Sheriff’s Office briefly stopped enforcing the state’s helmet law after a judge dismissed the person's citation. The judge based the decision on another case that Smith fought in which it was ruled that Florida's law was unconstitutional.

At the time, Smith told the Tribune that he got on his bike and went "looking

When these Rebbe’s endorse a toaiva candidate, like both Satmars openly endorsing the baby killer toaiva Kathy Hochul, I lose respect for them. They become lower in my eyes. If they anger Hashem and Hashem hates them, so do I. There are no excuses for actions that anger HKB”H. There is no dan licaf zchus garbage, when the kavod of the Borei Olam is at stake. They may have thousands of followers, but that means NOTHING in HKB”H’ eyes. Chillul Shem shomayim.

I can’t speak about local politics. However, one thing I will say after last night’s debate is anyone that endorses or votes for Hochul is a total fool. I watched the debate on You Tube I was shocked there were hundreds of comments almost every single one in support of Zelden. If the chasidishe mosdos endorse Hochul after the SED yeshiva debacle, then I lost all my respect for these useful idiots. Perhaps then Moster is right. The chasidim need an education. Let’s hope these mosdos don’t openly endorse Hochul.

Dear ADMOR Harav Dovid Twerski SHLITA;

Please think about NYS Jewery & klal yisrael as whole vs your Choshuve Shtetl. Look at the current government actions as a whole as far as Toeiva, murder & crime, …and all the 7 Noahide violations from this week’s Parsha. Think of the NYS covid lockdowns & mandate missery and government actions targeted specifically at the Jewish Community.
I know you may be thinking this connection may come in handy in case one your Kehila members get into trouble. I know it worked with the Clintons and your Chasidim are indeed lucky to have you as their Rebbe. You acted the way a most caring father would do so for a child. However, I implore of you to think beyond that and for the chinuch & safety of the rest of our children. In that zchus may Kehila always be protected and may we merit the Geula Shleima, Amen.

Love;
Yosef ben Avrohom Yaakov

Please read this Satmar, Skver and any mosdos that thinks flattery will help THEIR pocketbooks. This what the Ben Yehyodah (The Ben Ish Chai) says about flattery Sotah 42:

 Reply to  Educated Archy

In order to be a true leader whether in business or being a rebbe you have to true to your principles. Flattery may seem to help but when you’re down these politicians will kick you in the back. I’m certain they won’t help with the SED either. I for one will have lost all my respect for any mosod that openly endorses Hochul. My hope is that what happened in Lakewood will happen here. In Lakewood the vaad supported the democrat while the citizens of Lakewood voted for the Republican
