A Reader Responds to DIN on Covid......

DIN. Please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to me that you are still stuck in the covid information we had at the beginning stages. It was a time of confusion, people were dying, We didn't know of any remedy to treat the virus. I will agree that at that time people in our community were disrespecting this great health concern, and unfortunately we paid the price.....

At this time we are pretty much advanced in understanding the virus, as well as treatment for the virus.

There are many many points to point out about our current knowledge, and if you go through all the points, your assumption of the situation may be different.
I will just point out some of them.

Florida high school principal who was fired for refusing to say the Holocaust was a 'factual, historical event' is REHIRED and handed $150k in backpay

A Florida high school principal fired last year after he refused to say the Holocaust was a ‘factual, historical event’ has been rehired and issued $152,000 in back pay.

The decision to rehire and compensate former Spanish River Community High School Principal William Latson came following a 4-3 vote by the Palm Beach County School Board on Wednesday.

Latson was fired in October last year when emails he sent to a student’s mother surfaced, in which he said that the mass slaughter of six million Jews is a ‘belief’ that children at the school won’t be ‘forced’ to learn.

But in August, an administrative law judge ruled that the school district failed to prove he ‘engaged in misconduct in office, incompetence, or gross insubordination by a preponderance of the evidence’ and recommended his termination be overturned.

That ruling was accepted by the board Wednesday, though they voiced their reluctance to do so.

Latson will not return to Spanish River or work on any other school campus. Instead will be placed in the district's assessment department as a ‘principal on assignment.’

The decision followed expressions of anger from board members and 90 minutes of recorded voicemails from Holocaust survivors, family members and others who urged the district not to reinstate him.

Latson, who had worked for the Palm Beach public school district for more than 20 years, found himself at the center of a firestorm last year when emails he’d sent to a parent of a student at Spanish River in April 2018 resurfaced.

In the exchange, Latson wrote that students were allowed to opt out of Holocaust lessons because ‘not everyone believes the Holocaust happened’ and that as an educator he had ‘the role to be politically neutral’.

When the parent responded to insist the Holocaust was a historical fact, he insisted, ‘I can't say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in a position to do so as a school district employee.’

He continued: ‘Not everyone believes the Holocaust happened and you have your thoughts but we are a public school and not all of our parents have the same beliefs so they will react differently.

'My thoughts and beliefs have nothing to do with this because I am a public servant.  I have the role to be politically neutral but support all groups in the school.

‘I work to expose students to certain things, but not all parents want their students exposed so they will not be and I can’t force that issue.

'I do allow information about the Holocaust to be presented and allow students and parents to make decisions about it accordingly. I do the same with information about slavery, I don’t take a position but allow for the information to be presented.'

Ugly Peter Beinart Teams Up With The New York Times In Campaign to Eliminate Israel

The recent news that the Ugly Peter Beinart has been hired as a contributing opinion writer to The New York Times was not shocking, but it is an ominous warning sign. This is because Ugly Beinart was quite obviously given the job because of an opinion piece he authored several months ago in which he explicitly called for the end of the State of Israel.

Although bathed in the pathos-laden language of modern progressivism, the article made perfectly clear what Ugly Beinart, out of naiveté or malice, was advocating. “It’s time to abandon the traditional two-state solution and embrace the goal of equal rights for Jews and Palestinians,” he wrote. “It’s time to imagine a Jewish home that is not a Jewish state.”

The article created something of a stir, for good reason. As an Israeli writer described it to me in Hebrew, here was the most dominant newspaper in America, with massive influence over the public discourse, calling to l’chasel medina — to eliminate a nation. This kind of open racism in such a powerful media outlet was all but unprecedented.

But it was also more than that.

No community is an island: The ultra-Orthodox Corona crisis

by Menachem Bombach

In recent weeks, Israel has been overwhelmed by skyrocketing COVID-19 infection rates. According to Ronni Gamzu, Israel’s coronavirus czar, more than 40 percent of all new Coronavirus cases are found in members of the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community.

According to the government statistics bureau, however, the Haredi community makes up only some 12% of the overall Israeli population (a number that is expected to increase dramatically, until the Haredi community constitutes approximately 25% of the population in 2048). This shows us that during corona times, even a small group of people can have an enormous impact on the nation’s future.

What accounts for the dramatic rates of infection in the Haredi community? How have we gotten into a situation that not only threatens human life but touches on raw nerves politically and socially, and is causing a huge rift between the different sectors in Israeli society?

Blogger Suggests That the Jewish People Separate From Chassidim that are Deliberately Spreading the Virus!

What should Israel’s response be to its Haredi communities’ wanton disregard of the coronavirus quarantine guidelines?

I know that by merely raising the question, I risk being accused of a form of anti-Semitism, unfairly singling out the liberal Jews’ favorite target. Critics may argue that the Haredim are not a monolithic group. Every community has its outliers. What about the anti-Netanyahu demonstrators, and so on?

All of the above counterarguments are true. The Sephardi-Haredi leadership unequivocally supports stringent quarantine as a religious obligation. Many within the Ashkenazi-Haredi community do the same. Many in Israel, including our ministers and leaders, are small-time quarantine busters. We all are.

It is also true that the anti-Netanyahu demonstrators are breaking social distancing regulations. I, for one, do not believe that Israel’s democracy will be threatened if demonstrations are limited to 20 people in thousands of sites around Israel, until which time the number of newly infected drops below 2,000 per day.

The simple fact remains, however, that 40 percent of new infections every day come from within the Haredi community, and there is no evidence of increased infection among the political Left. By contrast, the percentage of Haredim who are tested and come out positive is close to 25%, three times higher than every other sector in Israeli society, including Arab Israelis, who in August also led the anti-quarantine charge. Today the Haredi community leads both in numbers of critically ill and deaths, far in excess of its proportional size. These statistics require an accounting and a coherent public response.

Golders Green has highest Covid-19 infection rate in Barnet

Golders Green ward had the highest Covid-19 infection rate in Barnet, according to latest statistics from the council.

At 71.74 cases per 100,000 people, Golders Green ward’s case rate was two and a half times higher than the borough average of 28.6 cases per 100,000, for the week ending September 26.

Golders Green had the largest Jewish population of any ward in the country in the 2011 Census, but there is nothing to link the high number of cases to the Jewish community specifically.

Golders Green has recorded the highest number of confirmed cases in Barnet with 899, followed by Childs Hill with 698 and Garden Suburb with 679.

The PA's Most Dangerous Enemy is Archaeology

by Stephen M. Flatow

Pundits will tell you that the most dangerous enemies of the Palestinian Arab cause are the Gulf kingdoms that have decided to recognize Israel, or the European countries that are moving their embassies to Jerusalem, or the American politicians who refuse to keep underwriting the Palestinian Authority's debts.

I disagree. I say that the Palestinians' most formidable foe is … archaeology.

A 2,000-years-old mikvah (ritual bath) was recently uncovered in the Lower Galilee. Most people probably would never have heard about the discovery if not for the dramatic photos of the entire structure being carried by truck to a nearby kibbutz for preservation.

The remarkable sight of a truck-borne mikvah, however, also makes one pause and reflect on the remarkable implications of the archeological find.

Trump promises all Americans free access to same experimental COVID drugs he got

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday credited an experimental drug treatment with helping his recovery from COVID-19 and suggested his diagnosis could be a “blessing in disguise” for the nation’s battle against the pandemic .

In a new White House video posted Wednesday evening, Trump said his illness had shed light on an experimental antibody cocktail that he credited for his improved condition. Seemingly sensitive to the fact that his treatment course is far from that received by average Americans, he promised to swiftly get the drugs approved for use — and for free — even though he does not have the power to order that himself.

“I want everybody to be given the same treatment as your president, because I feel great,” Trump said from the Rose Garden. “I feel like perfect.”

Trump received an experimental antiviral cocktail made by Regeneron through a “compassionate use” exemption, a recognition of the above-and-beyond standard of care he receives as president. The safety and effectiveness of the drug have not yet been proven. Most people recover from COVID-19.

Doctor, 28, who died from COVID-19 wore same mask for ‘weeks if not months’

A 28-year-old doctor who died fighting COVID-19 had been wearing the same mask at the Houston hospital where she worked for “weeks if not months” when she became infected with the illness, her family said.

Dr. Adeline Fagan, who was from Syracuse, started experiencing symptoms while doing a rotation in July treating coronavirus patients at HCA Houston Healthcare West, the Guardian reported.

It’s unclear how she became infected, but her family believes that her alleged lack of proper PPE likely played a role.

“Adeline had an N95 mask and had her name written on it,” her sister, Maureen Fagan, told the outlet.

“Adeline wore the same N95 for weeks and weeks, if not months and months.”

Adeline, who was a second-year OB-GYN resident, quarantined at home after testing positive for the virus, but her sister urged her to go to the hospital when she noticed her lips had turned blue.

For two weeks, the hospital attempted to treat her failing lungs with supplemental oxygen, the outlet reported.

But she was ultimately transferred to another hospital, where she was placed on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine, or ECMO.

Her family said she appeared to show improvement, but then they received the news last month that she had suffered a massive brain bleed and required emergency surgery.

“The doctor said they have seen this type of event in COVID patients that spend time on ECMO,” her family wrote on a GoFundMe page.

They said they were told there was a “1 in a million” chance of her making it through the procedure, which could result in severe cognitive and sensory problems if she survived.

“We spent the remaining minutes hugging, comforting, and talking to Adeline,” the family wrote. “And then the world stopped.”

A spokesperson for the hospital where she worked said colleagues were “heartbroken” by the doctor’s death.

But the facility’s chief medical officer, Dr. Emily Sedgwick, denied allegations that staffers are required to constantly reuse their PPE.

“Our protocol, based on CDC guidance, includes colleagues turning in their N95 masks at the conclusion of each shift, and receiving another mask at the beginning of their next shift,” she told the Guardian.

Pence effectively went after Harris — and a very biased moderator

by Michael Goodwin

Going into Wednesday’s showdown, Mike Pence had two big jobs. One, to defend the Trump administration’s record, especially its response to the pandemic. Two, convincingly paint the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket as the most radical national nominees a major party has ever put forward.

Mission accomplished. Pence is a skilled and disciplined debater, and his understated manner masks a killer instinct. He was always good, terrific at times and put on a clinic in how to methodically carve up an opponent.

Whether it matters in the big scheme of things is a separate question.

Maybe a little, which is to say not nearly enough to change the dynamics of the race.

Pence seemed hesitant initially, but quickly rose to the moment and grew increasingly better at seizing openings and turning around biased questions from moderator Susan Page to go on offense. By the end of the evening, he had clearly won the debate.

He did it by nailing the inconsistencies of Biden’s varying positions on taxes, fracking and fossil fuels in ways that highlighted the ways the Democrats have created a fog about what they would do if they win. After Harris promised that on “Day One, Joe will repeal” the Trump administration’s 2017 tax cuts, Pence responded: “She just told you, on Day One, Joe Biden’s going to raise your taxes.'”

On China, he delivered the hammer, saying: “Joe Biden’s been a cheerleader for Communist China over the last several decades.”

He also succeeded at laying out Harris’ voting record as being “more liberal than Bernie Sanders’.”

Germany All Over Again? Chassidic Jews Refused Entry at Newburgh, NY Bowling Alley

The repercussions of NY Governor Cuomo’s verbal assault yesterday on the Hasidic and other Orthodox Jewish communities are already beginning to appear.

A Newburg based bowling alley refused service to a number of Orthodox Jewish families on Thursday afternoon. This was less than 24 hours after the governor’s controversial speech and draconian measures limiting synagogue services to ten people per synagogue in what he termed “red zones.”

Approximately twenty un-related and un-connected families tried to go bowling when rain forced them to change their Chol HaMoed plans. Slightly after 2:15PM near Newburgh, NY, it began to rain.

One family related their version of what had transpired:

Heshy Tischler the "Jewish Al Sharpton" Provoking Violence Against Fellow Frum Jews .... Crowd Calls a Frum Jew "Hitler" & "Nazi"

Al Sharpton, the Black antisemite, has a lot to learn from Tischler .... you see Al only instigated violence on whites and never provoked violence on his own black community, whereas Tischler instigates stoning and beating up his own fellow Jews .....
Make no mistake the video below isn't "Kristalnacht"in Berlin  NOOOOOO!
This is Boro-Park ... Jew against Jew!
Jewish Al is always screaming : "Come get me"
I believe that he will finally get his wish!

A reporter and member of the Hasidic community in Borough Park was cornered and threatened Wednesday night as protests against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new restrictions on areas experiencing COVID upticks continued in Borough Park.

Jacob Kornbluh, a Hasidic Jew and a political reporter at Jewish Insider, said in a tweet that he was “brutally assaulted, hit in the head and kicked at by an angry crowd of hundreds of community members of the Boro Park protest.” Kornbluh said he planned to press charges.

He said Heshy Tischler, a local figure who has become a leader of the movement to defy COVID restrictions, had “ordered the crowd to chase me down the street.”

Video posted to Twitter by Jake Offenhartz, a reporter for Gothamist, showed a large crowd gathered around Kornbluh with Tischler at the center, shouting in Kornbluh’s face while unmasked. “You’re a moser,” Tischler is seen screaming. “Everybody scream moser!”

“Moser” is a Jewish legal term for one who informs on Jews to the secular authorities, and some Jewish legal authorities suggest that a “moser” is subject to the death penalty.

Kornbluh and Mordy Getz, a Hasidic businessman, had been called “mosers” in an anonymous flyer that circulated in April after they spoke out about the need to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Tischler had called Kornbluh a “moser” and a “rat” in a video he posted to Instagram earlier Wednesday from a cemetery.

The incident comes just one day after Getz’s brother, also a member of the Hasidic community, was beaten up after taking videos of Tuesday night’s protests. The conflicts and the protests mark a new defiant phase in the Hasidic Orthodox community’s response to government-imposed restrictions due to the pandemic.

Where Tuesday night’s protest targeted New York authorities who are cracking down on large gatherings, including at synagogues, and mask-wearing, Wednesday’s protest looked and felt more like a rally to support President Donald Trump. People at the event carried large Trump flags and signs.

“I want to thank the police officers who helped us so much tonight. Blue lives matter,” Tischler said, speaking from a stage over a sound system to loud cheers.

By 11 pm, police attempted to disperse the large crowd but many refused to leave the area.

Tischler publicized the gathering  on social media Tuesday night and Wednesday as a show of civil disobedience to counter new restrictions announced by Cuomo in areas with upticks in cases of COVID-19.

Several Jewish political leaders immediately tweeted in support of Kornbluh. “What an embarrassment/Chilul HaShem. Disgusting behavior!” Jason Greenblatt, the former White House Middle East envoy, wrote, using the Hebrew term for desecration of God’s name.

“Reprehensible attack–instigated by a CANDIDATE FOR CITY COUNCIL–against a courageous journalist who has dared to stand up for public health throughout this pandemic,”

Mark Levine, a member of the New York City Council, wrote. “There must be accountability for this vile act.”
