Sohlberg blocks Satmar from distributing $$ in Israel
Central Elections Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg on Friday morning issued a temporary injunction against the “Shekel HaTahor" nonprofit organization, which is affiliated with the Satmar Hasidic movement. The injunction prohibits the organization from giving voters money in order to influence them not to vote, or from offering or promising them such payments.
The Committee Chairman’s decision follows expedited proceedings that began when the Movement for Quality Government filed a petition alleging that the organization had begun providing $200 “support payments" to members of the Hasidic community who declare that they will not vote in the elections.
The movement argued that this constitutes a violation of the prohibition against offering bribes in exchange for refraining from voting, and demanded the immediate intervention of the court and the Committee Chairman to halt the distribution of the grants.
After reviewing the materials submitted to him, the Chairman of the Central Elections Committee found that, according to the evidence attached to the petition, there was serious concern that the law was being violated in a manner that goes to the heart of election law.
In light of the seriousness of the findings and the immediate harm to the integrity of the electoral process and proper democratic procedure, the Committee Chairman acted without delay to prevent the continued distribution of the funds.
The injunction will remain in effect until further notice, while law enforcement authorities will continue examining the organization’s financial activities and suspicions of criminal offenses.

It is wrong. As a frum Yid, I want to follow my great Rabbanim who tell me I must vote. One group should not bribe another group not to follow their leaders. This could lead to less seats for the Charadi parties. Would Satmar want me to bribe their Chassidim to vote and not follow their shita?

I don’t know what the law in Israel is, but in any state in the United States and under federal law I believe that even merely offering money to somebody to refrain from voting would be a felony. 18 U.S. Code § 597.
The Satmar Hasidic faction led by Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum is set to distribute millions of dollars to thousands of Israeli families who pledge not to vote in the upcoming Knesset elections, according to an Israeli Charedi news sites.
The campaign is expected to distribute the money Thursday through community leaders and activists. The initiative has been expanded beyond families affiliated with the Eda Haredit to include additional Haredi communities whose members are expected to abstain from voting, according to the report.
The payments are being distributed through Satmar’s “Shekel Tahor” fund, which was established about 13 years ago by the Satmar Rebbe during a visit to Israel. The fund supports Torah and educational institutions that do not accept government funding, as well as families in need.
According to the report, families included on the campaign’s internal lists are eligible to receive a $200 payment after declaring that family members will not vote in the election.
The campaign is funded by wealthy donors associated with the Satmar community, including businessman and philanthropist Yoeli Landau, according to the report. The distribution was approved by Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum following a briefing by organizers after Yom Kippur.
Satmar’s opposition to voting in Israeli elections stems from its anti-Zionist religious ideology. The movement maintains that participating in Israel’s political system constitutes recognition of Jewish sovereignty before the arrival of the Messiah.

A staunch figure in far-left activist circles in Philly, Gann portrayed herself as a mixed-race woman with black and Palestinian heritage. In reality, she is white and Israeli, according to friends.

Binyamin Regional Council head and Yesha Council Chairman Yisrael Ganz said the footage disproves the claims that had circulated earlier.
"This is exactly how a blood libel against the settlement enterprise is manufactured: A lie is spread about 'settlers laying siege to a house,' cameras and journalists are summoned, and then footage from the scene reveals that there is no one there," Ganz said.
"There is no siege and there are no settlers. There is a coordinated fabrication intended to produce images and headlines against the State of Israel," he added.
"These lies quickly become headlines around the world, international officials fall into the trap, and the entire State of Israel pays the price. This time, the cameras caught the lie in real time."

Women in Gaza are being traded for food, forced to marry their rapists: UN
Women in Gaza are being traded for food and forced into marriages with their rapists, according to a pair of reports from the United Nations — underscoring the critical importance of President Trump’s Board of Peace in the war-torn enclave.
There was a 123% increase in the number of early and forced marriage incidents across Gaza in the first quarter of 2026, with women between the ages of 18-59 suffering 68% of all gender-based violence (GBV) in the Palestinian enclave, the United Nations’ Population Fund (UNFPA) found.
Researchers spoke to women who said young girls were married off to rapists, traded for food or given up by guardians who did not want to take care of them amid the humanitarian crisis caused by the Israel-Hamas war.
“These trends are attributed to heightened stress felt by women and men forced to live in inadequate and overcrowded shelters and continued limited access to basic resources including food, water, basic hygiene materials and clothing.”
The second report highlighted some of the most distressing incidents inside refugee camps in Gaza City and Khan Younis, where 230 women shared their stories.
One refugee living in a school-turned shelter said that rape victims are often forced to marry their rapists to avoid shame and scandal.
“When rape cases are discovered in schools, you find weddings and celebrations at the school the next day,” she said.
Another woman recalled how a man married off his 14-year-old daughter in exchange for “two bags of flour so he and his [other] children could eat.”
Others claimed that many families looked to marry their girls off early so that their husbands could help protect them from rapists lurking in the overcrowded refugee camps. The UNFPA previously reported on how girls orphaned by war are especially vulnerable to sexual violence.
Still, other girls are simply abandoned by their caretakers, one woman living in a Gaza City camp said, noting she attended such weddings for a 14- and 15-year-old.

Women ages 18 to 59 make up the vast majority of victims of gender based violence inside Gaza.
“Their uncles married them off very young. Do you know why? Because their father and mother were martyred, and their uncles wanted to get rid of the responsibility and expenses,” the woman told researchers.
Widows and single mothers are also at greater risk of being sexually abused and exploited, as nearly 25% of all households in Gaza are now headed by a woman, double what it was before the war, according to the UNFPA.
“One widow was looking for a tent, and a [camp] representative told her, “I’ll give you a tent, we’ll put you in our camp, and you can come stay with me tonight,” one witness in Gaza City recalled.
The humanitarian crisis inside Gaza remains ongoing as skirmishes between Hamas and Israel continue, with nearly all 2.1 million Palestinians still displaced as the Jewish state controls about 70% of the land.
The reports underscore the importance of President Trump’s Board of Peace, which announced a multi-phase recovery plan for the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, with the first step set to cost $2.45 billion over six months.
The plan, unveiled on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in midtown Manhattan, comprises 66 programs focused on infrastructure, economic growth and installing an international security force.
The final cost of the completed reconstruction is estimated to be $71 billion.
Major change to TSA protocol is forcing passengers to check carry-on bags
Skipping the stress of baggage claim at the airport by using all carry-ons may no longer be possible.
Though the roll-out of the Transportation Security Administration’s new security scanners is intended to offer flyers more thorough screening capabilities and an easier time passing through security checkpoints, it may pose a snag when it comes to taking carry-ons on the plane — as they may not fit through the new devices.
The 3-D, X-ray computerized tomography (CT) scanners may be elite machines, but Daniel Velez, a TSA spokesperson, shared that their under-an-inch smaller opening does not let larger items pass through as easily as the former scanners did — though he said that the design is “necessary” so that the new tech can accommodate the advanced imaging technology and guarantee optimal performance.
The TSA’s new CT scanners have smaller openings, which may force some passengers to check carry-on bags.
“TSA officers are available to assist travelers with larger items or special needs to help ensure a smooth screening process,” Velez said.
Though the carry-on dimensions that airlines typically allow for — 22″ x 14″ x 9″ — will still fit in the new scanners, per a report by Simple Flying, passengers who hope to squeeze through with larger bags or even expandable options (being that these may change shape when fully packed) may find themselves out of luck.
To ensure an easy trip — and to avoid the hassle of needing to return to the airline ticket counter to check their bag — Velez proposed a few tips for travelers, such as cross-checking the dimensions of one’s carry-on bag with airline size guidelines, using the bins (the new CT machines do not allow bags to go directly onto the belt), and packing away laptops, since the new tech allows for them to stay in-bag.
While some travelers may feel intimidated or frustrated by the new tech, they do pose advantages — providing TSA agents with a 3-D view inside luggage, which will likely reduce manual inspections. Travel-size liquids will also no longer need to be removed.
The announcement comes in the wake of some other recent TSA changes, such as the agency’s new guidelines on packing squishies (the viral toys that are getting confiscated at checkpoints due to the gel liquid inside) and a potential allowance for full waterbottles, though this would likely only apply to PreCheck travelers under its Gateside by TSA program at 13 airports.
This program is expected to expand once the TSA evaluates operations after the initial rollout is complete. For now, flyers must still follow the 3-1-1 rule, where carry-on liquids must be in containers of 3.4 ounces or less.
