CBS News tells staffers not to report that Jerusalem is part of Israel because of ‘disputed’ status

CBS News reportedly instructed its staffers not to refer to Jerusalem as being part of Israel as the network faces mounting internal pressure over its handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Mark Memmott, CBS News’ senior director of standards, sent an email to all CBS News employees in late August with a list of terms to “be careful with” when “we talk or write about the news” pertaining to the war in Gaza, according to a report in the Free Press.

“Jerusalem” made the list of contentious terms.

“Do not refer to it as being in Israel,” Memmott reportedly wrote in the memo.

Memmott acknowledged the US Embassy in Jerusalem and that the Trump administration had validated Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the report said.

“But its status is disputed,” Memmot reportedly wrote. “The status of Jerusalem goes to the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

“Israel regards Jerusalem as its ‘eternal and undivided’ capital, while the Palestinians claim East Jerusalem — occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war — as the capital of a future state.”

CBS News did not respond to requests for comment.

Congress acknowledged Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 1995, when it adopted the Jerusalem Embassy Relocation Act.

In 2017, President Donald Trump formally recognized the holy city as Israel’s capital.

But instead of instructing reporters not to refer to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Memmott’s memo told journalists not to acknowledge that Jerusalem is located in Israel at all.

Meanwhile, tensions have been brewing at the network after “CBS Mornings” co-host Tony Dokoupil grilled journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates on his anti-Israel book “The Message.”

Dokoupil, a convert to Judaism whose ex-wife lives in Israel with their two children, said Coates’ book “would not be out of place in the backpack of an extremist” because of its stance on Israel.

During the CBS interview, Coates argued that Israel’s treatment of Palestinians was abhorrent and compared their experiences to those of black people in the United States and in Africa.

In his book, he condemns what he called Israeli “apartheid” in its administration of the territories captured in the Six-Day War of 1967.

CBS brass reportedly reprimanded Dokoupil for his tough line of questioning toward Coates.

“Why leave out that Israel is surrounded by countries that want to eliminate it? Why leave out that Israel deals with terror groups that want to eliminate it?” Dokoupil had asked Coates.

On Tuesday, the morning show anchor told staffers during a teary meeting that he “regretted” putting them in a difficult position, especially fellow journalists who are overseas and in danger, The Post previously reported.

One CBS employee told the Free Press that the controversy surrounding Dokoupil has revealed a double standard at the network.

“There is a huge difference between how all ethnic or minority groups are treated and how Jews and Jewish issues are treated,” the CBS insider said. “The rule of thumb is: If you are Jewish and you are interested in reporting on Jews or Jewish issues, that’s a ‘hold on’ or a ‘no,’ whereas for any other group it would be an enthusiastic ‘yes.’”

The Meltdown and Hypocrisy at CBS News Over Coates Interview and "60 Minutes" Edits

Mosab Yosef CRUSHES Jewish Clueless Woke Guy: "Islam is NOT a Religion of Peace! It's a Mental Illness"

Kol Nidrei ...Cello!

"Even though the Supreme Court ruled in our favor, due to the fear of provocations, Rosh Yehudi will not hold Yom Kippur prayers at Gan Meir.”

Channel 12 News presenter and economic editor, Keren Marciano, says in response to the decision to cancel the gender-separated Yom Kippur prayers in a public area due to threats of protests on social media is a "badge of shame for the Israeli society.”

"We have gone completely crazy. The fact that a public prayer on Yom Kippur is canceled is a badge of shame for Israeli society," Marciano wrote after hearing the Rosh Yehudi announcement about canceling gender-segregated prayers at Gan Meir in Tel Aviv, for fear of provocations.

Marciano added: "On this holy day, it's nice to see many people praying in synagogues, in public areas and wherever they want. Those who want to pray separately should be allowed to do so, and those who don't want to, can pray in a nearby place in a mixed-gender prayer."

She added: "I go to the synagogue on Yom Kippur and sit in the women’s section. I don't feel humiliated or excluded. I respect our tradition. And I'm fine with that. Enough with the craziness."

Rosh Yehudi, an outreach organization located in Tel Aviv, announced on Thursday morning that it would be cancelling the gender separated Yom Kippur prayers that were due to be held at Gan Meir in Tel Aviv, despite the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday, approving the prayers.

The court case was held following violent disputes before Yom Kippur 2023, when the Municipality of Tel Aviv forbade holding gender-separated prayers in public areas in the city.

Organization heads reported that: "Even though the Supreme Court ruled in our favor, due to the fear of provocations, Rosh Yehudi will hold Yom Kippur prayers at the synagogue at 54 Bar Kochba Street, and not at Gan Meir.”

Extreme left-wing activists posted on social media that they would come on Yom Kippur to the area of Gan Meir, to disrupt the prayers with loud music and other means of disturbance.

Israel Zeira, head of Rosh Yehudi, said today: "We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision that stated the simple truth: prayer according to Jewish tradition in the State of Israel, even in the public realm, should be a given. This is not a provocation and not any kind of discrimination. A partition, as required by Jewish Law, has been the custom for generations. With God's help, we will still hold many prayers in the public areas throughout the country, and also in the first Hebrew city [Tel Aviv]."

He added: "In a time of war, when our soldiers are risking their lives in heroic battles, and while the entire nation is praying for the safe return of our hostages, the way to defeat and overcome our enemy, as well as bringing our hostages home, is by adding holiness, unity and inner peace. Unfortunately, we have heard of plans to destroy this legal prayer as well."

Zeira concluded: "We have chosen to take a responsible step and be among those who are taking a step back and doing what we can to not offend others. We will pray on Yom Kippur inside the synagogue."

Quds Force commander under IRGC investigation. Was he an Israeli spy?

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani is under investigation by the Iranian authorities in an attempt to understand how Israel located Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, UK-based, Qatar-backed Middle East Eye reported on Thursday.

Amid the reports that Qaani was killed in the airstrike that killed Nasrallah, eight different sources told MEE that he was still alive and under lockdown as the IRGC investigates him and his team.

Iranian sources told Sky News that Quds Force Commander Esmail Qaani suffered a heart attack while being interrogated by the IRGC and was evacuated to the hospital. The report further stated that Qaani's chief of staff is suspected of spying for Israel.

Suspicions that Iranian commanders were involved in the elimination grew after the elimination of Nasrallah's successor Hashem Safieddine.

MEE cited a commander of an armed force close to Iran who said that "the Iranians have serious suspicions that the Israelis have infiltrated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, especially those working in the Lebanese arena, so everyone is currently under investigation."

Qaani has served in the senior position for four years since the dramatic elimination of his predecessor Qasem Soleimani.

Hezbollah's begging for mercy proves Israel is right to fight —and should shrug off Biden’s terrible advice

Lebanese terror outfit Hezbollah has changed its tune: After spending weeks trumpeting an apocalyptic end for Israel, the cadre of bloodthirsty cowards is begging the Jewish state to let up.

“We support the political efforts led by [Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih] Berri under the banner of achieving a cease-fire,” whined Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem — for the first time not conditioning a truce on an end to the war in Gaza.

Turns out bravely attacking your enemies with uncanny precision and skill, rather than begging them for peace, is effective as a military strategy.

Who Knew?

A pager and walkie-talkie attack that blew up the Hezbollah communication network.

A subsequent rocket strike taking out the entire command of its elite Radwan unit, gathered to plan an Oct. 7-style invasion of Israel.

An airstrike on Hezbollah’s HQ in Beirut (hidden, in the obscene tradition of the region’s Islamist killers, beneath a civilian apartment block) that killed the group’s boss, Hassan Nasrallah.

A series of further strikes serially killed Nasrallah’s replacements and most of the rest of the Hezbollah command structure.

Plus an ongoing elimination of the vast Hezbollah rocket capacity (also hidden among civilians — these Axis of Resistance guys sure are brave).

If Qassem is suing for peace, it’s at least in part because he knows he’s next.

As do all other Hezbollah honchos.

Iran certainly signed off on Qassem’s plea for a cease-fire: Tehran is the puppet- and paymaster of Hezbollah, its mightiest proxy force, but the terror masters are now dreading Israel’s justified reprisal for the massive (but failed) Iranian ballistic missile assault on the Jewish state.

So there’s a double lesson here.

The first is that the strategy demanded by the Biden administration — under which Israel would somehow win peace by giving up on eliminating Hamas in Gaza, and not answering Hezbollah’s yearlong missile fire — is utterly absurd.

The second is that Iran can be cowed and constrained. Not through giving in to the regime’s demands, but by standing firm against them.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Joe, Kamala and their Iran-worshiping inner circle to understand, though.
