In a Stunning Reversal: Court Permits Gender-Separated Yom Kippur Prayers, Slams Govt. for Discriminating Against Frum Jews
Israel’s Supreme Court has ruled that public Yom Kippur prayers in Tel Aviv can take place with mechitzos to separate men and women.
The court ruled that the Tel Aviv authorities must allow gender-separated services. In a stunning turn of events, the court, which is notoriously left-wing, slammed the municipality of Tel Aviv for discrimination.
The court said that the matter “should not have reached the court, certainly not an issue of prayer on Yom Kippur. With goodwill, it can be resolved outside the court walls.” The judges also said that “a municipality in the State of Israel seeks to discriminate against Orthodox worshippers.”
The judges repeatedly criticized the city and questioned its staunch opposition to holding prayer in a public space. They proposed a compromise to hold the service in Meir Garden instead of Dizengoff Square, rejected by Tel Aviv because the city is against gender segregation in public spaces.
Judge David Mintz told the city’s attorney, Shmuel Zinger, “These are difficult times. In any case, the issue should not have reached the court. Certainly not an issue of prayer on Yom Kippur. With goodwill, it can be resolved outside the court walls.” The judges were frustrated with the city and said that “what emerges is that a municipality in the State of Israel seeks to discriminate against Orthodox worshippers.”
Judge Grosskopf said, “should we allow the Tel Aviv municipality to determine which prayer is legitimate? The public will decide for itself.”
Judge Kasher said: “Tel Aviv Municipality says – ‘Orthodox no, everyone else yes’, while there is ‘relevant diversity’ that allows for gender segregation in prayer. You say: ‘I am not against prayer, only against the partition’, but that’s like saying, ‘I only have a problem with a kippah’.”
One of the city’s representatives argued that the service blocks the public space, and Judge Kasher replied sarcastically: “Any event in a public space blocks it. Even a demonstration. So let’s declare it will be a ‘Yom Kippur prayer demonstration’.”
The Rosh Yehudi outreach association, which had appealed to the court to permit its services, welcomed the decision. It was quoted by Israel’s Channel 12 as saying: “Tel Aviv is part of the Jewish state, and those who wish to pray separately with a partition will be able to do so…Judaism is stronger than any municipal regulation and more than the unfortunate decision of the Tel Aviv municipality to exclude the traditional public and Judaism itself from the public sphere.”
Turkish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in New York After Pilot Dies
A Turkish Airlines jetliner headed from Seattle to Istanbul made an emergency landing in New York on Wednesday after the pilot died on board, an airline spokesperson said.
Pilot İlçehin Pehlivan, 59, lost consciousness at some point after Flight TK204 took off from Seattle Tuesday night, Turkish Airlines spokesperson Yahya Üstün said in a statement.
Crew members decided to make an emergency landing and worked to revive the pilot, Üstün said, but he died before the plane landed.
Data from the tracking site FlightAware shows that the Airbus A350 landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport just before 6 a.m.
Arrangements were being made for passengers to reach their destination from New York, the airline spokesperson said.
Pehlivan had worked at Turkish Airlines since 2007, Üstün said. A routine health check in March showed no health problems that would have prevented him from working, he said.
“As Turkish Airlines, we deeply feel the loss of our captain and extend our sincerest condolences to his bereaved family, colleagues, and all his loved ones,” Üstün said.

Biden Sabotaging War Against Hezbollah by Leaking IDF Ground Offensive Plans ...Israel reluctant to now share Plans against Iran!
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday night canceled Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s departure for the US, as Israel continued to plan its retaliation in Iran. US officials say they do not yet have the timing of the attack nor the targets Israel may be targeting.
As the Wall Street Journal put it Wednesday morning, the US is frustrated by Israel’s reluctance to share its Iran retaliation plans.
Here’s a possible explanation:
last week, an anonymous senior Israeli official told Kan11 News the US government is leaking vital information shared by Israel, and those leaks were endangering Israeli troops ahead of the ground invasion of south Lebanon.
A week ago on Monday, President Joe Biden was asked by reporters if he is comfortable with an imminent Israeli ground invasion, and said, “I’m comfortable with them stopping. We should have a ceasefire now.”
Last month, when Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, it did it without first informing the US. As you may recall, Netanyahu used Biden’s ceasefire plan to draw Nasrallah out of the safety of his bunker, to watch the UN speech where the Israeli PM would announce his acceptance of a ceasefire. Instead, the IAF rained hellfire on the underground Hezbollah command post where Nasrallah was watching TV.
Is it any wonder Biden is quoted in Bob Woodward’s new book, “War,” as an “SOB” and “a really bad guy?” America isn’t used to being used by others, America is used to doing the using.
And using the others was what the planned Gallant trip to DC was all about. For more than two decades, the US has been investing in grooming, through Harvard and West Point, several generations of top IDF brass who get the first class treatment during their service and after their retirement, with academic posts and positions on boards of directors. All America wants in return is that when a US president says the IDF must not invade Gaza, he would be obeyed, likewise in Rafah and south Lebanon.
But one pesky prime minister has been standing in the way, conducting shouting matches into the night for a year now, with the US-trained IDF brass who gave us October 7, 2023.

Gallant Caves Under Pressure and cancels his visit to US
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has canceled his scheduled visit to the US on Wednesday, October 9, at the request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports Reuters.
The US Department of Defense did not explain why Gallant canceled his visit and directed reporters to the Israeli Defense Ministry.
"We were just informed that Minister Gallant will be postponing his trip to Washington," Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated at a briefing.
According to Israeli outlet Ynet, Gallant had hoped that his visit to the US would enhance coordination regarding Iran. However, just hours before his departure, Netanyahu imposed two preliminary conditions: a phone call with President Biden and cabinet approval for a response to Iranian actions.
Biden and his aides had been discussing a potential conversation with Netanyahu since late September. However, the White House did not immediately respond to inquiries about whether such a meeting was scheduled.
The unexpected cancellation of the visit on Tuesday came amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, as Israel weighs its response to the second missile attack from Tehran this year that occurred last week.
Biden stated that he believes Israel has yet to decide how to respond to Iran and suggested that he would consider alternatives to strikes on Iranian oil facilities.
On Tuesday, Iran warned Israel against carrying out threats of retaliation.
The Iranian Foreign Minister declared that any attack on Iranian infrastructure would be met with vengeance, while a senior Iranian official warned Gulf countries that it would be unacceptable and provoke a corresponding response if they allowed their airspace to be used against Iran.
Western nations are seeking a diplomatic solution, fearing that the conflict could destabilize the entire Middle East, a region known for its significant oil production.
Risk of a large-scale war in the Middle East
Since October 1, the Israeli army has been conducting a large-scale military operation against the Islamic group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On October 8, Iran launched a significant ballistic missile attack on Israel.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in July, the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and the killing of IRGC General Abbas Nilforushan last week.
The Israeli army intends to retaliate for the Israeli attacks. In particular, the IDF may target Iranian oil facilities. Strikes against Iranian nuclear sites are also possible.
Iran has warned Israel of serious consequences should such strikes be carried out.
