Dora Appel Holocaust Survivor Turns 101

Happy birthday to Mrs. Devorah (Dora) Appel, who just turned 101.

Born in 1919 in Mszana Dolna Poland, her teen years were unfortunately spent within the horrors of several Concentration camps.

Alone in the world after WWII, she found herself in a nearby village next to Auschwitz, at the mercy of a gracious gentile who let her live in his barn. Until one day, one of their boys, Ludvi'k, who befriended her, expressed to her that he knows she is Jewish "but don't worry I'm not going to disclose it to anyone and we will one day soon go to the city and get married".

Fearful that he wouldn't leave her a choice, she escaped that same night far into the woods and spent weeks sleeping under a tree. "I cried to God every night, 'Please God save me from the two legged animals; I'm not afraid of the four legged animals'..."

Dora was the sole survivor of 9 siblings. Her entire family was sent to their death.
She came to America in 1949.

She bought a grocery store in January 1959 and she’s been working in that grocery store ever since; same place, same store.

As soon as I heard about her birthday, I decided to surprise her and reached out to @yaakov_lemmer to join me, to which he immediately said yes and brought his Antique Field organ to play for this special woman. He ran across the street to buy balloons, while I reached out to @mordygetz to get her a large print Tehillim gifted by @eichlersbp

Yoili Oberlander Sentenced After Sexually Abusing a Minor

A registered sex offender from Rockland County who spent a year in federal prison for assaulting a woman on a flight from Israel to Newark Liberty International Airport was sentenced Thursday to time served for sexually abusing a minor after his release, authorities said.
Yoel Oberlander, 39, of Monsey had served a plea-bargained year behind bars for the airborne May 2016 assault when he was arrested by Ramapo police in June 2019.
Oberlander later admitted that he’d picked up an underage victim for sex in his car during what was three years of federal supervised release, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.
U.S. District Judge Esther Salas gave Oberlander another year in prison via videoconference for violating the terms of his release.
She ordered that he serve the sentence in home detention with a GPS bracelet, Carpenito said.
He will also be required to quarantine on house arrest for a period of 14 days once released from Essex County Jail, where he's been held since last year's arrest in Rockland.
Oberlander’s adult criminal history in the area traces back to 2002, when he was arrested in New York on charges of sexually assaulting a minor and was later sentenced to six years probation.
He was later convicted of assaulting a 22-year old woman who was seated next to him on a May 2016 El Al flight from Tel Aviv to Newark by touching her “in the area of her chest, upper thigh and hand” without her consent, Carpenito said.

JewishTeens Successfully End Local School's Police Force in California

Satya Zamudio, 15, urged Oakland's school board to eliminate its police force.
Question: Where do these little Jewish twirps get this idea from?
Answer: From the home ... from their clueless progressive wealthy parents, "useful idiots"...... ...
so now who will she call when she gets molested?

This idiotic resolution will "reallocate funds to provide social workers, psychologists, restorative justice practitioners and other mental or behavioral health professionals.

The school board in Oakland, California, has unanimously voted to abolish the district’s police force in the wake of the nationwide protests against police brutality — with urging by teens at a city synagogue.
A large contingent of young people from Temple Beth Abraham, a Conservative congregation, was involved in pushing the board to adopt what was called the George Floyd Resolution, named for the Black man whose death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer sparked the demonstrations.
The resolution, which was passed Wednesday, will reallocate funds to provide social workers, psychologists, restorative justice practitioners and “other mental or behavioral health professionals, as the budget supports, to meet the needs of students.”

Meet Omer Yankelevich ... First Chareidie Woman to Hold Cabinet Post

Omer with 3 of her 5 children

Omer Yankelevich is the new minister of Diaspora affairs in Israel, meaning she’s in charge of managing the Jewish state’s relations with Jewish communities abroad.

It has never been an easy task, but tensions in recent years between Israel and the United States, as well as other international Jewish communities, have boiled to all-time highs over several high-profile social, political and religious disagreements. Among them: who can pray at the Western Wall and who Israel’s Orthodox Chief Rabbinate deems Jewish. The majority of an American Jewish community that in the main is liberal feels alienated by Israel’s right-wing government and its hawkish policies.
Yankelevich’s role is complicated by the fact that she is haredi Orthodox — part of a community that is at the heart of some of the issues putting a wedge between Israel and the Diaspora. She’s also the first haredi woman to hold a Cabinet position in Israeli government and is taking criticism for that – many in her community say her participation in politics is scandalous.
Many eyes are focused on the political newcomer. Will she work to bridge the divides that have widened between Israel and international Jews? Or will she compromise with the religious community in Israel to which she belongs?

Gimmel Tammuz .... Yom Hillula of the Rebbe of Chabad

On Gimmel Tammuz, the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Yom Hillula, let us draw upon the Rebbe’s wise counsel.
"It is forbidden to relinquish any part of Israel to a Gentile, no matter how small."

On several auspicious occasions the Rebbe called on Rabbonim and G’dolei Torah to assume their responsibility and take the lead in amending the situation with the issuance of a clear ruling, again and again, until it is well understood by all:

“That the entire Land of Israel belongs to the Jewish nation. It is forbidden to relinquish any parcel of real estate in Israel to a Gentile, no matter how small.

"Any compromise on this is forbidden, even more so when we speak of a city on the border. Today, every single city in Israel has the law of a city on the border.
"The one and only reason for this ruling is the danger [it brings] to Jewish lives, G-d forbid.
 (Lubavitcher Rebbe, 1978)

"May it be G-d’s Will that there should finally be the fulfillment of the verse: And the earth will be filled with the knowledge of G-d as the water covers the ocean bed.
"Resulting, immediately, in no longer fearing ‘what will the nations say’ or worrying over which policy they will favor; no longer will a Jew shake at ‘the sound of a driven leaf.’
"For G-d will help His nation to walk upright, with conviction and strength.”

(from the Rebbe’s letter to Israeli journalist and poet, Uri Tzvi Greenberg, the 22nd of Cheshvan, 1977)

All about the "experts"

Slowly over my lifetime, I have come to be a skeptic about what experts tell me. I have lived long enough to know that what the experts told me 20 or 30 years ago about what was going to happen regarding the economy, political matters, international conflict, regarding almost everything, have been proven to be, in the main, false and misleading.

Of course, no one ever calls the experts to task. No one reminds them what they said 30 years ago. We just let them continue to be experts.

No people in the world equal the Jewish people in respecting knowledge, education, and thought. But again, no people in the world represent the idea of skepticism more than the Jewish people, of the fact that there may be another opinion, that the future is unknown. And, that it is the balance between those two that must occur whenever we judge things.

So, the experts tell us a lot of things, but who says they are right? Why should we rely on them?
