Ari Lauber z"l moved to China about 15 years ago, and found his wife (who was from Antwerp) there. 

Ari's wedding in 2010 took place in China and it was the first Chassidic wedding to take place there.

Bereishit: Tasty fruit trees

The account in the Torah describing Creation and the beginnings of mankind is not particularly encouraging. We read of Adam’s sin, the murder of Abel, the origins of idol worship, the corrupt generation of the Flood, and so on.

The Kabbalists used the term shevirat ha-keilim, breaking of the vessels, to describe the many difficulties that occurred in the process of creating the world. With this phrase, they wished to convey the idea that the limited physical realm was incapable of accepting all of the spiritual content that it needed to contain. Like a balloon pumped with too much air, it simply burst.

The Midrash (Breishit Rabbah 5:9) relates that these failings were not only with the human inhabitants of the universe, but also with the heavenly bodies (a power struggle between the sun and the moon) and even with earth itself. The “vessels broke” on many different levels.

What was the “rebellion of the earth”?

God commanded the earth to give forth “fruit trees producing fruit” (Gen. 1:11). The earth, however, only produced “trees producing fruit” (Gen. 1:12). God’s intention, the Midrash explains, was that the trees would be literally fruit trees - i.e., the taste of the fruit would be in the tree itself. Were one to lick the bark of an apple tree, for example, it would taste like apple.

What does this mean? Why should the trees taste like their own fruit?

Appreciating the Path

Rav Kook explained that the Midrash is describing a fundamental flaw of nature. One of the basic failings of our limited world is that we are unable to appreciate the means - the path we take towards a particular goal - as much as we value the goal itself. We set for ourselves many goals, both short-term and long-term; and we are usually excited, even inspired, by the vision of accomplishing our final objectives. But how much exhilaration do we feel in our laborious, day-to-day efforts to attain these goals?

A number of factors - the world’s material character, life’s transient nature, and the weariness of spirituality when confined to a physical framework - contribute to the current state of affairs, so that we can only sense true fulfillment after attaining the ultimate goal.

G-d’s intention, however, was that the soul would be able to feel some of the inspiration experienced when contemplating a sublime goal also during the process of achieving that end. 

This is the inner meaning of the Midrash: the means (the fruit tree) should also contain some of the taste, some of the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that we feel in the final goal (the fruit).

In the future, the flaws of Creation will be corrected, including the sin of the earth. The world’s physical nature will no longer obstruct the resplendent light of the ideal while it is being accomplished through suitable means. Then we will be able to enjoy genuine awareness of the ultimate purpose that resides within all preparatory activity.

The names and photographs of men who refuse to give their wives a get, a Jewish bill of divorce, will be made publicly available, if new legislation Zionist Union MK Revital Swid plans to submit becomes law.

The bill is part of ongoing efforts to fight the phenomenon of agunot, or chained women, whose husbands refuse to give them a divorce and, according to Jewish law, cannot remarry. Israeli rabbinical courts can issue sanctions, such as a ban on leaving the country, against recalcitrant spouses in order to persuade them to give a divorce.

“Women denied a divorce may as well be dead,” Swid said. “Their lives are behind bars created by their spouses.”

The Zionist Union MK has focused on fighting cyber-bulling and Internet shaming, and she found a way to redirect the phenomenon towards a good cause. According to Swid’s proposal, which she says has the support of the Chief Rabbinate and rabbinical courts, a publicly-viewable online database would feature the names and photos of anyone who has had a restraining order filed against him because of a refusal to give a get.

Swid said the database would show the public the people who are “imprisoning their spouses in marriages that they do not want.”

“The path towards eradicating the [aguna] phenomenon is long, but the bill I am proposing… is a significant step in exposing the ugly faces of those who refuse to give a get,” Swid stated.

Why is the FBI Lying About Las Vegas Shooter?

Investigative journalist Laura Loomer is exclusively reporting that Stephen Paddock, the Mandalay Bay hotel gunman who massacred 59 country music concertgoers and injured 530 more on October 1st, was not alone in his hotel suite in the days prior to the attack.

Loomer’s scoop lends credence to the theory that Paddock may had help in planning of the largest mass shooting in American history. Moreover, it also calls into question the information authorities have been giving the public in the wake of the tragedy.

Law enforcement initially told the public that Paddock had checked into his 32nd floor suite on September 28th. However, receipts obtained by Loomer prove the mass murderer actually checked into the room three days earlier:

Sources within the hotel told Loomer that Paddock booked his stay at the hotel on September 9th, suggesting he had planned the massacre nearly a month in advance. This contradicts Eric Paddock’s assertion that his older brother abruptly “snapped”:

“Through my investigative journalism, I have uncovered multiple inconsistencies in the LVPD and FBI narrative of the Las Vegas shooting,” Loomer said. “Sources who work for the Mandalay resort have told me Stephen Paddock checked into his hotel suite on September 25th, which directly contradicts the September 28th date that was provided to the American people by local law enforcement in Las Vegas.”

Loomer went on to describe the duplicitous way the Las Vegas Police Department is concealing critical information from the public, which has prompted accusations of a cover-up: “Even more troubling, room service receipts posted by a Mandalay hospitality employee on Facebook further proves that the LVPD is not providing an honest answer about Paddock’s reservation,” Loomer told GotNews.

“The receipt has a date of September 27th and lists an order for two guests, which is more evidence against the narrative law enforcement is feeding the public,” Loomer explained. “Basic analysis of videos, crime scene photos, and eye witness testimony all suggests that the victims and the American public are not getting the full story regarding the circumstances surrounding this horrific tragedy.”

Loomer has also received a tip that the woman who chillingly told the concert attendees “you’re all going to die” was a Muslim and is now in custody, presumably for having advanced knowledge of the massacre:

It is unclear whether this woman was the second person staying in Paddock’s hotel suite.

Loomer told GotNews she will continue to hold authorities and the media accountable with regard to their communications and reporting. “I will continue my investigations and will not stop until the truth is revealed,” Loomer told GotNews. “With the rise of citizen journalism, the deep state and globalist elite can no longer control the flow of information.”

Meah Shearim Savages Attack Modern Frum Israeli Family

While you were out enjoying popcorn in your Sukkah in Chutz Le'aretz, savages from Meah Searim attacked their brothers and sisters in Yerushalyim Ir Hakodesh!

Several Israeli families were attacked by ultra-Orthodox residents of the Jerusalem neighborhood of Meah Shearim Sunday.

In at least two separate attacks, residents threw water, flour and eggs at modern Orthodox families who had arrived in the neighborhood to for a family heritage tour during the Sukkot holiday. Victims of the attack said that residents shouted that they had violated local modesty customs, despite the fact that men in the group had their heads covered and women had come dressed in skirts and long blouses.

“My wife’s grandfather is a 10th-generation Jerusalemite,” wrote Yotam Eyal on Facebook. “His family was the first to move out of the Old City, and his grandfather made the original purchase on the land [that eventually became] Neve Yaakov, Sanhedria and Meah Shearim.

“But when we arrived in the neighborhood people threw water bottles at our heads, poured water into baby carriages, spilled coffee on our backs and pushed us,” Eyal wrote.

For decades, Meah Shearim has been known as hostile territory for females with exposed shoulders or lower-legs. Entrances to the neighborhood are “emblazoned with large signs reading “Entrance for Women dressed immodestly tourists & groups is striktly (sic) forbidden!!!” and many stores refuse to serve women who do not comply.

But whereas “hostile territory” used to be limited to occasional verbal abuse, in recent years locals have ramped up their attacks on outsiders and even on residents who have been deemed to violate community expectations, such as haredim who serve in the IDF.

Eyal said the attack was not the first one his family had experienced. The last time he visited the neighborhood he used “force” to extract his family from a ring that had been formed by a local “modesty-squad.”
